We love Atenas for all of it's practical offerings and local charm as well as the wonderful people. Stop by the local farmer's market in town on Fridays to pick up wonderful produce, meat and fish. Perhaps one of its best attributes is the central location to the rest of the country's magnificent sites. With 8 different climactic zones, 26 national parks, and more species of birds, butterflies, and trees than the US and Canada combined, it is easy to see why people try explore as much of the country as possible when they are here. You won't be far, no matter what part of Costa Rica you wish to explore. We are located 30-45 minutes from the San Jose airport (where you can hop a quick flight to virtually everywhere in the country via Sansa and Nature Air, if you so desire), a 45 minute drive to the beach, and 1 hour to breath taking waterfalls and volcanoes via mystical cloud forests.
