Awesome place! Great relaxation!

Guest: funky1 (United States)
Date of Stay: 05/18/12 Review Submitted: 05/20/12

This unique house is amazing! Great craftsmanship & artistic touches. Extremely comfortable and cozy. But what we enjoyed the most is that it is the last property before the Golden & Silver Falls State Park; and it's 25-30 minutes from town (Coos Bay), so it's remote and quiet. The sound of the creek (only a few feet from the deck) lulls you into a state of relaxation. This is truly a one-of-a-kind property. Wish we could have stayed more than two nights!

BEAUTIFUL!!!

Date of Stay: 04/13/12 Review Submitted: 04/16/12

This was the perfect place for a relaxing weekend and to spend our anniversary. We loved the swinging beds, They were so cool! And the views from each window were amazing. The house was so beautiful and we LOVED all the artifacts, and fossils! We were bummed that the road to the falls was closed due to landslides but still had a great time! The road there was very pretty and a little scary at times due to the recent slides, but it was all the more beautiful! Thanks again for opening your home up to us, it was perfect! :)

Hidden Treasure

Guest: Mandy (Yerington, Nevada)
Date of Stay: 04/10/12 Review Submitted: 04/15/12

This jewel is tucked in the forest near Silver and Golden Falls State Park. The house is masterfully crafted with beautiful attention to detail. Each room has several unique elements. The beds sleep comfortably, though I am glad no one from our group had to use the sleeping lofts. I would say this house sleep six adults comfortably, after that it would be crowded. The road to this house is long and windy, but very worth it, even with kids who tend to be car sick. The falls were gorgeous, and I never would have discovered them without booking this house. Shane was easy to work with and very helpful. It is hard to believe he is willing to share this place. It is the more creative and breathtaking house I have gotten through vrbo. Also, eat at Shark Bites, the halibut tacos are incredible.

Owner response:Thank you very much for the compliments and noticing all the creative touches. However the sleeping lofts are intended for the young among us(kids). I also must mention that the fouton beds downstairs are plenty roomy for 2 adults each making the sleeping total for even the most finicky adults 8. Thanks for staying!

Great getaway

My family and I enjoyed the modern features of this getaway cabin. We all found the floating beds to be surprisingly comfortable. And the river on the backside of the stream was AWESOME! We all would love to go back this summer.

Indescribably Hasty Getaway!

Guest: Abbie (Eugene, OR)
Date of Stay: 12/03/11 Review Submitted: 12/08/11

This was a last minute trip for 5 of my close friends and I for our best friends birthday. We saw the pictures from the house called Shane and right away we knew it was going to be an amazing weekend. Shane was so helpful in letting us know what needed to be done and where all the activities were. We only hoped that we had been able to stay for a longer amount of time. The house is by far out of this world. The time and love Shane has put into building this home is just phenomenal. It was cozy, the outdoors do a great touch to getaway from the city. For 6 college students a weekend away from cell phone service and anything to do with wireless internet was a great break before our finals. I would recommend going to this house any time to just spend quality time with close friends, family, or your significant other. Great place! THANK YOU SO MUCH SHANE!

Autumn at the Lodge

Guest: Bill & Marsha (Creswell, Oregon)
Date of Stay: 10/19/11 Review Submitted: 11/07/11

My husband and I stayed in this home for 5 nights in late October. We found everything as described in the listing. Shane built this home with love and an abundance of creativity. It was fun staying there. The home was clean and well maintained and Shane was helpful prior to our stay in answering our questions. We hiked the falls and took many photos. We became very interested in the history of the early folks who settled this area. This is a peaceful place, quiet with the river for background music. We read a lot, I painted and we had some wonderful conversations. Yes, we'd recommend this home to all, especially those who want to just get away from it all.

Rejuvinated

Guest: Ken & Ziggy (Eastern Washington)
Date of Stay: 02/23/11 Review Submitted: 03/06/11

What a perfect place to relax, unwind and rejuvinate! We didn't mind the long drive and we loved the fact that there was no cell service or internet access. Everyone should get away from their electronic leashes and get back to nature. And this is the place to do it. The home itself is comfortable and we enjoyed all of the unique, creative touches in every room. The beds took some getting used to, but it was hard to get out of them in the morning. Lying in bed watching the snow fall felt like being in a snow globe and that was probably one of the most peaceful few hours. I definitely recommend a visit to the Silver and Golden Falls State Park and hiking ALL of the trails. Like so many of the previous guests, we were sad to see the "for sale" sign out front and only wished we were in a place financially where we could buy it. It's a little slice of heaven for sure. The kitchen is fully stocked and Ken enjoyed cooking while Ziggy curled up with a good book and a glass of wine. We would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone looking for a peaceful get-away and we hope to be able to visit again before it sells. Thanks again, Shane!

Hi shane, just realised I could also write a review in here! We really enjoyed your house, it truly is 1 of a kind! Very peacefull and remote from all tourists, which was exactly what we were looking for. The house is fully stocked and has all you need for a wonderfull stay. I'll never forget the hanging beds! At first, it felt like we were completely drunk, but after a while, it starts getting very enjoyable. Shame you are selling it, if we had the money, we'd definately buy it off you!

Fern gully

Date of Stay: 08/14/10 Review Submitted: 08/22/10

This place is great. (Dang, it! I was trying not to sound so excited as the rest of the reviews, but it's hard not to...) There is hardly anything conventional about this place. I don't know what type of wood he used for the outside planking but some of it is 18" wide and over? and inch thick, it's awesome (I mean hard-to-find). There are several kinds of berries growing wild in the back yard. Even in August, there is a lot of water flowing down the creek and a steady stream comes out of the the hill pouring into the creek, too.

Owner response:Thank you for the excitement. As for the berries there are red huckle, salmon, thimble, and blue huckle berries growing wild around the home.

If you would like to dwell in the midst of a creation of love, this is it! It's where God's art and Shane's art converge. Leave your electronics and your cares behind. It is wonderful in the woods! You are able to float through time here -- on your bed, in your hammock, or on the creek.

Shane - Just got back from our week long excursion to BTF Lodge and can't say enough about our time there. It was absolutely PERFECT and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I live in CB and it was like being in another world ... the rest of the family - from Florida, Georgia and North Dakota - were thrilled to spend time there and they all said it was well worth the long trip(s) to get here. I hope we can all enjoy it again even if it's just some of us 'coasties' getting together for a quiet ... weekend. We'll be in touch and hope it's still available for rent. Thank you so much for sharing your awesome home. It is fantastic!

A refreshing and liberating experience for our entire family

Guest: Bev (Brighton, MI)
Date of Stay: 07/05/10 Review Submitted: 07/14/10

Thank you Shane for opening your home to us! It was truly a refreshing and liberating experience for our entire family. Each of us was enthralled with the wondrous setting that "Below the Falls Lodge" calls its homestead. The gentle whooshing of the creek, the calls of the birds, and the sweet swaying of the trees rocked us into a natural harmony filled with happiness and contentment. You've created such a beautiful and imaginative home! It is so in tune with the gorgeous surroundings that it feels like the house itself is alive and growing out of the mountain. What an awesome achievement! You've thought of every detail to make a home that seems to anticipate its inhabitants' needs. We've all been able to really relax and enjoy it, only wish we could stay longer. We can't believe you would want to part with this place! It was difficult for us to leave and we were only guests! Thank you again for sharing and much health and happiness to you and your family. Regards, The Zamplas Family (Bill and Bev - Brighton, MI, Lindsey -Venice Beach, CA, and Nik - Brighton, MI)

Shane has crafted a unique "cabin" in a magical setting, that was meant for making memories. Our family converged at Below the Falls Lodge for "Thanksmas," a holiday we blended between Thanksgiving and Christmas -- we all arrived from Bellingham, Portland and San Francisco. Our daughters follow in my footsteps on the culinary front, so they love to cook -- they were pleased to see that the well-appointed kitchen has just about everything imaginable. Julia Child wouldn't miss a beat -- or an eggbeater -- here! But speaking of imagination! Shane's creation is like a treasure hunt. He has included so many artistic and whimsical details in the lodge, that we uncovered something new each day of our stay! I won't repeat all the accolades that the other commenters have posted here, but will only say I agree with them whole-heartedly. The peace and quiet of the woods, the mist, the crisp cool air, the whispering brook, the velvet moss covered old trees, and the tall evergreens create a lovely scene, and the efficient fireplace inside provided the sweet synergy as a gathering spot for laughter, reminiscing, reading, relaxing, and a break from everyday obligations. I highly recommend this place. Namaste.

What an unforgettable memory we will always have from our stay at this beautiful, peaceful place in the woods. There are just so many wonderful things about this place. Open the bedroom windows so you can listen to the babbling stream and gaze at the unbelievably bright starlight from the gently swinging hanging beds. Climb up the limbs of the tree stairways to the bedroom lofts. Enjoy the incredibly equipped and well stocked kitchen. Warm yourself by the woodburning stove as you enjoy the green world outside through the numerous windows. Go on a treasure hunt through the house, finding endless creative use of materials and fun things to remember. The wood floor is beautiful. Collect delicious blackberries on a peaceful walk. Relax on the peaceful streamside benches - take a book or a nap. View the incredible waterfalls up the road.

We really reconnected as a family who had finally succumb to the technological demands placed on us as professionals. Shane's little touches throughout the home added immeasurable charm to the experience ... the first thing I saw was the embedded shark tooth, which delighted my boys. We just moved here from the East Coast, and this trip was our way of exploring more of Oregon. And explore we did. Using the Below the Falls Lodge as our central location, we went to Bandon shopping, ate amazing seafood, visited countless deserted beaches, went tidepooling, rented dune buggies in Winchester Bay, saw the Sea Lion Caves, numerous lighthouses, learned valuable history ... even had a close-up encounter with a wild peacock on a mountaintop dirt road. Absolutely amazing. At the end of each day, we played Euchre and passed out from exhaustion. Thank you Shane for putting your passion and drive into something you were willing to share. This family appreciates it.

Total seclusion, absolute beauty, nature abounds, views in very direction, peace, tranquility, artistic, comfortable, well appointed home. Truly a work of art...the details are in everything you see...the creek is flawlessly gorgeous. The floating beds were so comfy...we all slept like a baby in mama's womb. Shane is a true craftsman and visionary and has created the most lovely home/getaway. If you are looking for peace and quiet, with a lot of nature, this is your place!! We had a wonderful trip...thank you!!

Owner response:Wow! I'm blushing, thank you so much, I'm really glad you all enjoyed the home. Please come back sometime, winters bring rain which makes the falls amazingly powerful and shrouds the cliff opposite the home with a mist. Salmon come in to spawn around November followed by the Steelhead through February or March. The cold and wet weather makes the woodstove and sauna that much more enjoyable. Peace Shane Daugherty

We rented the lodge for thanksgiving, looking for a nice and relaxing getaway, and we were not disappointed! It took us a little bit longer than expected to get to Allegany from Portland, but it was well worth it. We all immediatly fell in love with the cabin, from the fully equiped island kitchen, the many windows and skylights, the nice cozy woodstove, and the suspended beds, to the many decorative details (beautiful sculptural wood, imbedded fossils...)Thanks Shane for building and sharing this beautiful house! The cedar sauna was a really nice addition too, and the nearby river really pleasant to gaze at and listen to. Golden and Silver Falls State park was just a walk away and both falls were very striking. If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway with all the comfort, this is your place!

The lodge is amazing! We spent a long weekend here for my father's 60th birthday and we all had the best time of our lives. The home is beautiful and relaxing- we didn't want to leave. Shane was so easy to work with. We all highly recommend this home as it is an original gem in the coastal cascades...close to fishing and easy hikes to the waterfalls. We will definately be back! Thanks Shane!!
