Welcome to our lovely guest house! This beautiful living space was created as a comfortable and private oasis for those seeking relaxation, an undisturbed working environment, and communication with nature. We are located in the community of Millersburg, just east of downtown Columbia where an easy drive will have you in Columbia in 15 minutes or Fulton in 20 minutes. The apartment overlooks 26 acres of private land, and features a large master bedroom suite with mission-style furniture, queen-sized bed, and hardwood floors. Relax in the deep soaker tub with beautiful views of the countryside from the large picture window. The master bath also features a separate glass shower and dual sinks. The kitchen is fully furnished, contains all new stainless steel appliances, microwave, coffee maker, and toaster oven. The second bedroom contains a queen-sized sleeping futon and desk, and the powder room features a copper-bowl raised sink. The main living and dining area is bright and airy with a large sliding glass door leading to the sun deck. If you prefer to relax at home, there is an entertainment center with DVD and VCR, satellite television, portable radio with CD and I-pod/ I-phone input options, and high-speed wireless Internet access.
Columbia holds many activities for visitors. Home to 3 centers for higher learning, there are educational, sporting, art, music, and theater events virtually year-round. The University of Missouri Concert Series brings world-renowned performers and Broadway shows to the area on a regular basis. Columbia also hosts 2 film festivals yearly, as well as the autumn Roots, Blues, and Barbeque festival. There are great locally owned restaurants, brew pubs, coffee houses, art galleries, and apparel shops downtown. There are many live music venues and nightclubs for entertainment for all tastes. For kids, the YouZeum in downtown Columbia is an interactive children’s museum. In addition to playgrounds at many downtown parks, Flat Branch Park offers a “spray ground” for warm weather fun, and Stephens Lake Park features a lake swimming area for families. Columbia also hosts the Show-Me State Games each summer, as well as other statewide sporting events. For those wishing to spend time outdoors, Little Dixie Lake, managed by the Missouri Conservation Department, is 2 miles away, with fishing and a 6 mile hiking trail. Rock Bridge State Park is just south of Columbia with numerous hiking trails, and trail access at the Mark Twain National Forest is within 10-15 minutes. Columbia is also the origin of the Rails-to Trails MKT Trail, a 10-mile biking and hiking trail that connects to the 225 mile Katy Trail, the longest Rails-to Trails park in the United States.
We are happy to entertain any questions about the location or furnishings of our apartment, or activities in the surrounding area.
NOTE: We are very sorry, but due to negative experience with renters who have broken no-smoking rules and smoked in the apartment, we have been forced to make this entire property - indoors and out - nonsmoking.
RATES: The new rate calculator feature of VRBO is creating conflict. Briefly, our rental minimum is 4 nights at $170/night, inclusive of tax and cleaning fee. For 7 nights (1 week), the rate is $800, and per month is $1800.

Visited over Christmas for four days. Place is well kept, out in the country and away from the noise and congestion of a college campus. Very comfortable and homey and a perfect place for Christmas...Recommended for: Age 55+.

My fiance and I stayed here for a week, and it was SO much more than we ever expected! What a beautiful piece of property. A nice taste of the country life minutes away from everything vital in Columbia. The ladies that own/operate the property are a serendipitous addition to the package...beautiful souls that provide any and everything you might need. The tub...ohh, the tub :) The bed is so very comfortable. I can't say enough about the wonderful time my family had catching up with each other and spending time in such a beautiful place. ~Bob and KarenRecommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thanks Bob and Karen - so happy you had a wonderful experience! Sincerely yours, Marie and Elizabeth

We rented the guest house during a family reunion in Fulton. We were absolutely delighted! The house is charming and well provided with necessaries. The area is quiet and private. The back deck offers a beautiful meadow scene if you enjoy cooking out or just sitting around. The owners are very friendly and wonderful to deal with. We couldn't have been more pleased! Highly recommended.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

We had a great stay here. The apartment is very well furnished, clean and bright. The rural setting is indeed exceptional - quiet evenings on the deck were special. The purpose of our visit was to tour Missouri sites. Columbia is a great central location, within easy reach of Hannibal, Jefferson City and the MO River towns. Columbia itself, and Fulton, both 10 easy miles away, are friendly towns with lots to see and do. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this apartment.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, people with disabilities, sightseeing, pet owners, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Me, my husband, our two little girls and my mother-in-law found a gem in this vaction rental! The owners were flexible and friendly and the house was more than we could ask for. Everything that we could possibly need was there, it was clean and inviting, we had more than enough space for all of us and the country setting was spectacular. We even got to see a killdeer nest hatch on our visit! We highly recommend this vacation rental to anyone looking for a private, peaceful getaway with all the ammenities of home.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

My husband and I were blessed to be able to stay for three months, the summer of 2009, in this great apartment while we were working at the university. The location is very convenient to Columbia. The scenery is amazing from the peaceful back deck. The apartment was exceptionally clean when we arrived and was uncluttered and comfortable as the photos on the site show. Our hosts were attentive and thoughtful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope we are able to stay there again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

I stayed at this property on two different occasions (April to May and then again July to August)each time for about 3 weeks. It was absolutely wonderful and suited my needs. The inside and outside spaces and atmosphere allowed for wonderful peace and quiet and was very condusive for studying purposes. I especially enjoyed having a grill on the sun deck for grilling outside. Something else that made this particularly a nice stay for me was that I was able to have my dog with me. I have to say I think he rather enjoyed being out in the wide open space. He spent lots of time outside on the sundeck and barking at the small animals that would pass through the yard. The owners were very accomidating and always checked to see if everything was going well. My stay was such that I wasnt ready to leave each time I had to depart.Did you find this review helpful? Owner info
Year Purchased: 2007
About the owner: We are professors at the University who started renting properties from VRBO when we traveled, and also enjoy the opportunity to travel with our pets.
Why the Owner Chose Columbia:
We moved to Columbia in 1999, and into our present location in 2001. We have completely fallen in love with this area of the country and have made it our permanent home. We purchased the building from next-door neighbors in 2006 and added the apartment to use as a guest house for our own home. In between using the apartment for personal use, we decided to make it available as a VRBO property given our positive experiences with rentals we had taken while traveling.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
This property provides a great opportunity to visit many wonderful places in and around the mid-Missouri area, and to get together with families and attend University functions. The outdoor space provides wonderful country views in an uncrowded space.
