Cozy Cottage

Guest: Carl (Woodinville, Wa.)
Date of Stay: 05/03/12 Review Submitted: 05/07/12

The rental was as I expected and lived up to what the owner advertized. The only thing that upset me was that the owner presented me with a separate bill other than what VRBO charged me. I don"t know if this is common practice but it seems wrong. This kind of practice of double charging should be investigated.

Owner response:In the beginning this guest booked for 2 nights not three. It was already booked with VRBO when I was contacted again. I tried to change it but it would not let me. So I called him and said that I would make up another invoice and he could pay the balance to me when he arrived. That was agreed. We do not accept credit cards personally -- only on the Internet at VRBO, so his friend wrote me a check for the balance. There was also a dog fee added to this which was not charged the first time. The guests were very nice people and so was their dog. I would never double charge anyone. I only charged them the fair amount for the additional night's use of the cottage plus tax, and the dog fee.

Comfortable home base for wine tasting weekend

Guest: WA Wine Lovers (Boise)
Date of Stay: 04/27/12 Review Submitted: 04/30/12

My husband and I recently stayed at this small home for a weekend. The house is comfortable and okay for a couple. The house is old, and although it was very clean, we awoke to a significant ant problem in the kitchen on both mornings of our stay. The street on which this house is located is somewhat busy, though the windows in the house did diffuse most of the noise. The house is less than 2 miles from downtown and the airport wineries. Based on the photos and the description of the house on this website, we had hoped it would be a little bit nicer (i.e., nicer furnishings, furniture, exterior, etc.). However, the price was right and the location was good. The owners are very nice and wonderful people.

Owner response:We were not made aware of the ant problem. If we had been told we would have been there on the spot to take care of it. However, I did call one of the other guest's in the past that stayed for six weeks, and she said the only time she had a problem with ants was if she left crumbs of food out on the counter. -- Yes, I admit Walla Walla does have an ant problem and we have tried to be good stewards of keeping our place clean. The furniture is old, but in good condition and comfortable. There is an antique dining table that will seat 4. There is a well equipped kitchen. The bed has a new pillow top mattress for a restful night sleep. All the bedding and towels are laundered regularly. It is a cozy cottage, not a modern home so we keep the price down for that reason. If you stay 3 nights we will give you the 4th night free. The first guests that ever stayed at our cozy cottage expressed it like this " a treasure hidden inside a modest exterior". This past year we added a fake fireplace with battery candles and several guests have enjoyed that. The flat screen TV is above it. The WiFi is another feature guests enjoy. We have done everything we can to make it a "home away from home". We have return guests every year.

Our 5th Anniversary

Taken from our guestbook. --- We throughly enjoyed our 2 nights in your cottage. It was comfortable and had all that we were looking for. We slipped out while you were still at church. Thank you for making our anniversary a wonderful one! P.S. I also fixed the bedroom remote so it turns the TV on/off and also works the volume.

Comfy Stay

Thank you so much for making your cute cottage available for us. Really comfy--great bed and all the homey amenities. Thank you for having WiFi. You have done a great job with back deck (love that big umbrella, too). Best of all, though, is meeting fine people like you two. We so enjoyed our talks.

Great value!

Guest: Seattle couple (Seattle)
Date of Stay: 07/01/11 Review Submitted: 09/05/11

As a married couple with no kids, my wife and I were excited to find this cozy rental in our hometown of Walla Walla. We travel from Seattle to WW quite often to visit family, and this lil' house on Wilbur was very clean, comfortable, and for us, perfectly located on the East side of town. Very close to Pioneer Park, downtown, and Eastgate shopping, and a direct shot to Highway 12 that gets you to tons of wineries. I lived in WW for 20 years, and since moving away have stayed at a half dozen rentals and even more hotels, and came away from this rental experience very satisfied. We even got a thoughtful gift in the mail from the owners a few weeks later! We will definitely stay here again. Recommended for couples.

Owner response:We designed our cozy cottage so people can enjoy themselves, and will want to return. We love return guests. It has a comfortable bed, a well equipped kitchen with spices and etc., TV & WiFi, a nice deck and best of all it is a short distance to everything. We even have information about our surrounding area. Especially wine tours that are being offered. Come and see what Walla Walla is all about and let us show you our hospitality.

My husband and I stayed at Marilynn and Rod’s cottage for the Walla Walla Holiday Barrel Tasting weekend. They met us when we arrived with freshly baked cookies and gave us a quick rundown of the place. The cottage was in fine shape, cozy, warm and had everything we needed for a relaxing, comfortable, long weekend – much better than a hotel. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking materials and basic condiments; the queen sized bed was comfortable; the small living room had a comfy couch, nice TV w/ extensive cable package - if TV is your thing. They provided all sheets and towels. Though we were there in the winter time, we noticed a large, fenced-in backyard with a little deck and a nice BBQ….perfect for warmer weather. The house has a washer/dryer and dishwater, making it seem “just like home.” Also, there was free wireless internet available and a phone with free long distance calls. The cottage is conveniently located about 5 minutes from downtown Walla Walla and is very close to a grocery store if you need something quickly. We enjoyed our stay very much and would definitely visit Marilynn and Rod again.

Owner response:So glad you enjoyed your "home away from home". I was baking cookies that day and I wanted to share some with you. We always like to make our guests feel welcomed, but do not want to take away from their time in the Walla Walla area. We like to greet guests coming and going when we are available.

My three plus weeks at the Walla Walla Cottage

Guest: Foundryman (Lawrence, Kansas)
Date of Stay: 11/01/10 Review Submitted: 12/07/10

I agree with the other positive reviews about this cottage. It is clean and well managed. I appreciated having the gas grill on the deck. The bed is very comfortable. Furnished with dishes, towels, pots, and pans, the house has an assortment of functional appliances. It is small, but that's the cozy in the cottage. The house is well situatiated to grocery stores and restaurants. For you walkers, Pioneer Park is just a few blocks away and the trails around nearby Bennington Lake provide beautiful vistas to the local landscape and the Blue Mountains.. If it is a week, a month or longer, I highly recommend this house. It has the owners personal touch, even a few hand made articles found on the walls. A great place! Great time spent!

Owner response:Thank you. You said it all. That is what we want people to feel when they are away from their home. -- That this cozy cottage is a "Home away from Home" if you are staying for a couple days, several weeks or several months.

Great attention to detail

Guest: Janine and Andrew (Winnipeg, Canada)
Date of Stay: 09/20/10 Review Submitted: 03/10/11

My husband and I stayed in this cottage for 4 nights last September. In a nutshell, what a pleasant surprise. It is indeed a hidden treasure as one reviewer stated. There is great attention to detail, it is tastefully decorated, and the bed is wonderful. It is very clean and comes with a supply of towels and sheets, and one of the best features for travellers is that there is a washer and dryer. The best feature for us was the kitchen. We like to visit wineries by day, and then enjoy some of our purchases in the evenings, which means that we love to prepare our own food and open a bottle or two of wine to enjoy with it. This kitchen was absolutely perfect -- very well stocked; in fact, I don't remember a single thing that I needed that wasn't available. Other bonuses of staying here are that it is close to an excellent grocery store and other conveniences, and it has a wonderful back yard and a BBQ on the deck (which we made full use of!). Why stay in a hotel when this has so much more to offer and is so comfortable? It really is lovely. We loved it and will be back. Rod and Marilynn are wonderful hosts and we look forward to seeing them again.

Owner response:Thank you, Thank you. You have said it all. This is what we strive for--- to make our guests comfortable while enjoying our area.

Comfy in Walla Walla

We had a great time in Walla Walla at the cottage. It is very convenient to everything and charming and clean. We cooked dinner there for 9 one night and had plenty of dishes and space. An added amenity for me was wi-fi access . I would recommend the house to anyone: it is comfortable and cozy. We went for my son's graduation from Whitman and everyone had a good time.

Owner response:Wow, Thank you very much. We are glad you had such a nice time at our cottage, and visiting Walla Walla.

I have been travelling for 15 years & I have to say this was the best rental i have stayed in! No keys in lock boxes, the owners meet you at the property, show you around & fill the fridge for you. Walla Walla is a lovely place, staying at this rental will make your vacation even more pleasant.

Owner response:Thank you for being so kind. We enjoyed you very much. Please come again. I did put food in the frig for you, but I asked you first what you wanted and you paid for it. I will do that for anyone who asks me too.

This was a great place to stay, a short drive from Whitman College and Downtown Walla Walla. The recent rennovation was done with geat attention to detial: Comfortable furnishings and the kitchen was so well equiped that we chose to eat in rather than go out for breakfast. The interior is a treasure hidden inside a modest exterior.

Owner response:Thank you Dee for the very nice comments. I sure hope you will come back and see us again.
