Relaxing vacation at the Dunes

We had a great time staying at the Palms Condo in Fort Morgan. The condo is well maintained and very clean. The pictures online didn't do the condo justice. It is decorated really nice. At first we were hesitant about staying that far out. We are so glad we did. The beach at the Dunes is great and not crowded at all. The condo had everything we needed from pots and pans to washer and dryer. The only thing we needed was food. The beach is just a short walk from the condo. Robert and Dorothy were amazing when we had questions. There is a nice indoor and outdoor pool, workout room, and sauna on the property. We ate at some nice restaurants that included King Neptunes, Desoto's, Lulu's at the Marina, our favorite Lambert's home of the throwed rolls. King Neptunes had a great fried cheesecake. We didn't do alot of anything but lay on the beach and eat! We were supposed to stay 4 days and extended it to 6. Thanks Robert & Dorothy we will be back!!!

GET AWAY FROM IT ALL...

The condo was extremely clean and we felt as if we were home regarding all of the amenities provided. Robert and Dorothy were like second parents to us in the sense that we had everything we needed and they meticulously had things ready for our stay. The Jelly Fish - info was very informative, the pamphlets of area attractions and menus of area restaurants were extremely helpful to us in planing out our day. They were on call if we needed anything, which we really didn't. The guards and locals were super friendly and made us feel as if we were a part of the family. On a side note: I totally would never recommend Tacky Jacks to anyone and feel that I should add this. They have nothing to do with Robert or Dorothy but just a heads up to future renters. There is a Mexican restaurant called Tequila's that was wonderful with great service as well as a nice grill up the road about five minutes if you plan on eating out. There is a 20 mile drive to town but if you are looking for a place to GET AWAY FROM IT ALL...this is the place to go. Just take everything you need before you get there. Thanks Robert and Dorothy, you really were great to work with and very understanding.

My granddaughter and I spent 7 days & nights in this condo, and found everything to be as described. The balcony over the pool was perfect for that early cup of coffee, the condo is completely outfitted as described, & I can't think of anything we needed. As a matter of fact, we brought a lot of things that we'll leave at home next time. The beach area was not crowded (mid-June), and tended to be very family friendly. Everyone we interacted with was friendly. There are several restaurants/stores on the end of the island, and Gulf Shores is just a pleasant drive away. I should tell you, there's a place on the "strip" at Gulf Shores called Scoops.....yummy, yummy ice cream! We checked several times just to make sure it was consistent :) Even had some made with Splenda! My only caution to someone who hasn't been before (we hadn't): If you use Mapquest or a GPS and give the address in Ft. Morgan, it will route you across the ferry from Dauphin Island.......The last crossing is 6:30 pm, and we arrived a little before 5:00 pm. We were the LAST vehicle in line for the LAST crossing at 6:30! I would suggest giving Gulf Shores as the destination if there's any chance you might arrive after 4:00 pm. That will take you through Mobile. If you cross the ferry, the condo is just seconds away, however. Go, enjoy, and come home feeling refreshed and ready to hit the real world again!

Our Anniversary Getaway

So enjoyed our 3 nights over the Easter Holiday for our anniversary! Robert and Dorothy were so efficicient and gracious with our last minute plans.The condo was very clean and had everything we needed. The decor truly enhanced the tropical beach atmosphere we were going for. We had plenty of room and can't wait to bring our teenage son and his friend. We only ventured out 1 afternoon and enjoyed the shopping at the Tanger Outlet Mall. Especially enjoyed the morning walks to the beach. We really needed the quiet time away from the crowds. Thanks again for the great time, we will see you again soon!!

Much Needed Family Vacation

My family very badly needed a quiet family vacation from the big city. My husband and 2 boys ages 3yrs and 1 yr decided last minute to rent a condo by the beach. Robert and Dorothy were very accomodating with our last minute plans and a few other minor requests. This was our first time renting a condo and it was a wonderful experience for us. The condo was spotless with very new/well kept interior. Tho condo provided everything we needed, we just brought food. The beach was a short walk away and my son especially loved the pool area. We definitly recommend the condo and was a pleasure working with the owners.

Our Spring Break holiday at the Dunes...April 10, 2011

My husband and I always enjoy our stays in Ft. Morgan. We are "young" 60 year olds and the quiet, peaceful setting at the Dunes or the Indies suit our lifestyle adequately. Gulf Shores is only a short distance if we decide we need a little more action! :) The Dunes condo was everything we expected. It was as cheery and as colorful as the pictures that were posted on vbro.com. It was very very clean and everything we needed was supplied except for our own personal items. My transaction with Johnny was pleasant and prompt and could not have been handled any smoother than what it was. Even though I have not met him personally, I came away thinking he is quite a southern gentleman. We felt more like a guest in his and Dorothy's home rather than a business deal. Our 40 year old daughter and family were guest at the Indies at the same time we were at the Dunes. She suffered a stroke during her stay and had to be flown by helicopter to Providence Hospital in Mobile. When I told Johnny about what had happen, he was just as concerned as if he knew us on a more personal level. In times of trouble, it's a comfort to share a common friendship. Upon talking with both of our daughters, I believe they have rented from Johnny also. We have been going to Ft. Morgan several years, so it's possible that they have. They expressed the same friendliness and prompt service as I have. Thank you Johnny for your hospitality and your geniune concern for our daughter. The next trip that we plan to Ft. Morgan, I will remember.

We have stayed at numerous condos over the years. This condo is one of the best maintained units that we have ever seen. The decor is beautiful--even to the smallest of details. My compliments to the decorator! There was nothing that we needed that was not provided. We really like that this area was secluded, yet not isolated. There were families on the beach, but it was not overly crowded. If you want to eat meals in the condo, we would suggest stopping in Gulf Shores to buy your groceries on the way in as it is about 20 miles away. I would highly recommend this condo for anyone.

We rented this great place in Mid May of this year and really liked it a lot and had a unexpected opportunity to take another week off mid August. At the last minute, we were able to rent this condo and enjoyed every second of it. Has all the comforts of home. The bed is especially comfortable! The owners are great people, and its worth the 12 hr drive. This is a place we intend to return to time and time again. Clean, bright, cheerful and comfortable as can be. The location is really "away from it all" which is exactly the rest and relaxation we need! Love driving into Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, or Foley for dining/shopping. But the lovely beach outside of this condo can't be beat. Happy to have found this adorarable place.

We stayed at the property from 7/1 to 7/5. We especially liked the location being "far from the maddening crowd". We took the ferry to Dauphin Island, had a picnic in Fairhope (East side of Mobile Bay) on the 4th, and came back to watch peoples' fireworks displays on the beach that night (probably not legal, but oh well, fun to watch!)...the condo was perfect. The bunk beds are great for children or for small adults such as our two early 20's daughters! I would recommend bringing extra paper products. Even though there was evidence of some oil on the beach, it wasn't bad enough to curtail our walks on the beach, which we did every day. Still a very beautiful place to spend a vacation.

My husband, 3-month-old daughter and I stayed at this property and had a decent time (although we didn't require much). However, we have had a major issue with the security deposit that was not appropriately addressed or resolved by the owners, despite our attempt to contact them regarding same. They withheld a substantial portion of the security deposit without ANY evidence of any alleged damage, despite our requests to provide it. We have had to resort to contacting the Alabama Chamber of Commerce and other authorities regarding this matter. We have been regularly renting from other property owners and have never before encountered an issue like this one. It is in large part because of this big issue that we give the property a rating of "1," otherwise we would have rated it a "3." Also, there are a few other things that I did not see mentioned or emphasized in other reviews that should be noted. First (at least while we were there), there is very little to do in the area and very few close restaurants. Tacky Jacks was the only open restaurant while we were there (end of April). Fort Morgan is close by, but other than that, all other attractions (other than the beach of course) are at least a 30-minute drive away (including the grocery store). Second, the gym equipment is very outdated. Most of the machines have cracked or broken screens and the machines themselves have rust on them. When we first arrived and attempted to use the gym, we discovered that the key left by the condo owners was the wrong key. We had to track down the maintenance people at the condo in order to get the right key. We informed the condo owners of the situation, and they didn't acknowledge or apologize for the inconvenience (or thank us for obtaining the correct key). Also, there are condos directly next door which are much nicer, more up to date, offer greater amenities, and many that are less expensive than this condo. If the location is desirable, we strongly recommend looking at nearby options as well in order to get the best deal and the best amenities. While the condo was clean, the decor was somewhat dated, and we had issues with the internet, the shower, and the kitchen sink. Overall, while the accommodations were average, we strongly recommend looking elsewhere based on the reasons mentioned above and certainly will not be renting from these owners in the future.

Owner response:Robert/Dorothy, I just wanted to let you know that the key you left for us for the fitness room isn't the right key - a man who works on the property gave us the right key and told us we could keep it, so we left it out on the kitchen counter along with the other keys. We had a great time and loved your place. We're sad we had to leave. Thank you!!

Great Spring Break Vacation!

This was our first time to Gulf Shores and we had a great time! Everything about the condo was exactly as it was described online. The beach was not crowded and only a short walk from the condo. Robert and Dorothy provided everything we needed. There were several things to do in the area. Our 7 year old loves to play miniature golf and we didn't have a problem finding several fun places to play. A couple of our favorite restaurants were Tacky Jacks (walking distance from the condo) and Gulf Island Grill. We just returned home yesterday and we can't wait to go again. We have already recommended this property/owners to several friends and family. Thank you Robert and Dorothy for everything!

For the Renter Beware...if you had no expectations and did not require much then how on earth did you not enjoy the condo? We spent this years August at The Dunes. Since we felt home from the first second we entered the Condo, it was a great experience. The Appartment was neat looking, exceptionally clean, and provided everything we needed. The beach was only a couple of footsteps away which gave us the opportunity to enjoy long walks along the water where we got to see some dolphins and even one manatee. The very good cleaned swimming - pool by the house was so good for us, because every morning i went to swam in it. After this the breakfast taste more than good. Also thank you for the good work from the pool - man. The peaceful and quiet surrounding of the Condo gave us only one choice: Relaxiation and Recovery from everything we left behind ! We met the owner, Robert, who proved himself to be a friendly, obliging and cooperative. To put it in a nutshell, we had a wonderful time and want to thank you for that! It is to be known very nicely where one can enjoy a relaxed vacation. The Dunes one can recommend only very well. Alabama and the Gulf Coast will see again us certainly. The condo and the view were beautiful, exactly as pictured. The owners were prompt and professional in everything. The property and the condo were clean and very up-to-date. And, Fort Morgan is a great place to stay. The water is slightly less green at that end, but the crowds are smaller and quieter than Gulf Shores/Orange Beach/Perdido. This is the very last complex before you get to the Fort Morgan state park. And, the crabs at night are huge! Lots of fun for the kids to chase. We will definitely be back.

Fort Morgan/Gulf Shores is an absolute beautiful place. I would highly recommend staying in Robert's & Dorothy's condo. It is very clean, it has a pool, hot tub and most importantly is near the beautiful ocean and white sand. The beach is very very private even at the height of the summer when we went - which we enjoyed immensely. Very peaceful and relaxing. It's a little bit of a drive to town, but not a big deal. There are charter boats nearby to go fishing and snorkeling (or whatever you have in mind). I definitely want to visit again!

The trip/condo was wonderful! This was our first time down to gulf shores and it was great. The condo was well cared for and clean. The owners were wonderful and very helpful. My family and I, visited the Dunes this May, ’09. We had a wonderful week. The condo was immaculate, yet very homey. We were happy to be able to walk to the beach without having to make a marathon. It has a nice view from the balcony, better than the photos. It overlooks the pool, close enough to keep an eye on the kids, yet not so close as to be obnoxious. It is the same with the elevator, just a couple of dozen feet away, not to loud but easy access. The owners were great, very helpful. We look forward to visiting again.

Spring Break 2009

We loved our place at the Dunes. It was quiet, very clean, and like a home away from home. Everything we needed was provided or close by, we were on a beautiful, quiet beach with a great view from our balcony, and we were a good distance from Highway 59 (far enough away so that we didn't feel crowded, but close enough that it was an easy drive to restaurants, shopping, and entertainment.) The condo was just what we wanted, it was very clean and comfortable and the location was great. Robert and Dorothy did a wonderful job of making us feel comfortable and welcome, we would love to stay with them again! Thank you for making our Spring Break trip fun, relaxing, and memorable!

What a find! This rental is located in a wonderfully remote part of Ft. Morgan. We were able to watch the Blue Angels practice at the same time we watched dolphins jumping in the gulf. The condo was delightful - clean, well-appointed, with a balcony that overlooked the pool and the ocean. I can't say enough about the rental or the owner, who was unbelievably gracious when we needed assistance. The best value in the Gulf Shores/Ft. Morgan area!

This beach escape is just totally a pleasure. The unit is clean,modern and so spacious for a one bed room. Lots of room for 1-6 folks.The view and decor are lovely and the amenities of the condo are attractive as well. The peace surrounds you in style and you leave wondering why you must go.

We had a wonderful week in Ft. Morgan and really enjoyed staying in the condo. We especially enjoyed the fishing at Ft. Morgan, Alabama Point and taking the ferry to Dauphin Island. We have just returned from our second trip to paradise. Dunes 203 is a must visit if you are into beautiful quiet beaches, beautiful sunsets and a wonderful place to call home whether for a week , a month or longer. The owneers, Robert and Dorothy, are a joy to work with and the folks at the Dunes are always there and willing if you need them. Fort Morgan is a short walk away and the ferry to Dauphin Island is right there at the Fort. Gulf Shores and all of the attractions they have to offer is a short and I might add very pretty drive East. We will go back!

The condo was spotless! Well stocked kitchen. Being at the end of the pennisula made it all the better. NO jellyfish and less traffic. We have teenagers and not one complaint from them. The boys were able to golf and the girls shopped and chilled on the beach. The beach was close by and the pool was just below the balcony. The best customer service and Robert was a joy to work with. The ferry was a short walk, but Dauphin Island is a 7 mile walk. We got some great pictures at the Ft Morgan and on Dauphin Island. The shrimp festival was not as big this year , but the food was still fantastic and a towel and the beach was I needed!

Recommended for:Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We LOVED our stay at Ft. Morgan! Condo 203 is clean and cheery, the people are freindly and beach is relaxing. The fishing was AWESOME! If you are there to fish, try the point at Ft. Morgan for redfish, or try the pier behind Tacky Jacks 2 for a variety of smaller fish. (We asked permission to fish behind Tacky Jacks 2 and they allow the public to fish during off season.) The dolphin and pelican watching was fascinating. We can't wait to come back for another visit!

This is a great place to stay. The condo is very clean and Quiet. Seen a lot of Dauphins. And if you take the ferry over to Dauphin Island walk out past the fishing pier if there is still know water, there is around 100 Sea Rays living out there. Robert and Dorothy and great host. I sure you won't be disappointed

We just got back from a vacation at Fort Morgan in the Dunes 203. We had a wonderful time. The condo was perfect for us and spotlessly clean. The owners were a pleasure to work with. We appreciated that it was the last condo on the beach. We saw sea turtle nests, chased crabs at night and watched dolphins on 2 different days. The area is rather secuded; not for those who think they need to go to town every day. The only thing we would have liked to have had was a dish drainer. We would definately stay here again! We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the Dunes #203! It was our first experience staying in the Fort Morgan area and we are now hooked! It was blissfully quiet compared to Gulf Shores/Orange Beach! The condo was very peaceful. The beach and pool area were perfect. Our girls loved the bunk beds! Robert thoughtfully called to check on us during our stay. Thanks for a great vacation!

We just got back from Fort Morgan and the Dunes 203. We can't say enough about this place. The pictures don't do it justice. Robert has been such a pleasure to work with and did everything imaginable to make our stay wonderful. The weather was great, the beach was beautiful and the dolphins were amazing. We saw about 20 on two different days just out playing around. We found huge shells and whole sand dollars, we've never found whole sand dollars before. What more could you ask for. This was such an awesome vacation. Thanks again for letting us stay in your wonderful condo.

I just loved this condo. The owners were too kind. Everyone must try Tacky Jacks 2....absolutly wonderful meal. We hated so bad to leave. I hope to visit this lovely condo before the summer is over.

Having never stayed in Fort Morgan, we did not know what to expect. What we found was a wonderful condo. Very clean and had all we needed. The owner's are easy to work with and checked on us while we were down there. Our stay was very enjoyable and we are planning on returning to The Dunes very soon.

What a wonderful condo. Our family of 6 stayed here for the entire week. The kids loved the built in bunks. The view was just perfect and oh, so relaxing. The owners are wonderful. They went above and beyond, even helping find an rv park for my parents. We are already planning our stay next year at The Dunes 203.

We enjoyed staying in this wonderful condo. The condo was very clean and the queen bed was so comfortable. The perfect quiet get-away. The owners were great.They even called us after our arrival to make sure that we had made it safely and that we had everything we needed. We look forward to staying at Dunes 203 again next year.
