Waterfront Beach House/Stunning Views - Coho Beach House
Year Purchased: 2004
Why the Owner Chose Ketchikan
Three of us are life-long Alaskans, and the fourth has been here since 1979, so this is home for us. The particular location of the beach house is known in the community as having the best sunsets in the area. The beach house was built in the late 1940's or early 50's and had been well used and loved by many, but it was in dire need of repair. We considered demolishing it, but instead rebuilt it from the pilings to the roof. The interior layout remains the same, but it's much more comfortable now. It was truly a labor of love, and we love to share its charm with our guests.
The Unique Benefits at this House
There's a magical feeling when you're at the beach house -- one guest called it The Healing House. Seeing marine life swim right under the deck; enjoying the weather and views (rain or shine) from any room; watching the bird activity, the passing boats and sea planes all lend to the pleasures of this home away from home.
Owner's Map of Ketchikan
Friends for 40 years, partners in Coho Beach House since 2004. The Odells and the Hooks dreamed of living near the water for years, and when they became owners of this property it was a dream come true. Both couples live on "The Point" by the beach house, and are available if needed, but also respect the privacy of guests.

What a wonderful cabin! We really enjoyed our vacation there. We got a chance to see and film a couple of killer whales coming through and the bald eagles woke us up on more than one occasion in the mornings. Couldn't have asked for a finer wake up call!! This was our first visit to Alaska and we hope to return. Thanks for letting us stay in your sweet cabin!

From the time we drove up to the property to the time we left we were blown away by the views, the sunsets, and the cleanliness of the Coho Beach House. It was very easy to find in the daylight - very close to the airport. The minute we drove up, Joe came out to great us and an eagle flew right over our heads. The next day, a large eagle was sitting in our tree. We saw eagles every day; even saw an otter and a seal swim up as we sat on the balcony. Every night we had a breath-taking sunset - even the day it rained. Our expectations of the house were definitely exceeded. The house looked brand-new - not even a spider web or a speck of dust. My husband works for the Four Seasons, so he's especially picky. He wants to come back every year! This house is perfect for a couple or a family. The two bedrooms upstairs are close and there's just one large bathroom downstairs. Even though it's near the main drag, it's very private. We enjoyed driving around Ketchikan - then coming back to the house at 4 or 5 and sitting there until the sun set - about 8:45 every night. Can't wait to go back!

We wanted to let you know what a wonderful time we had at the COHO house. The house was a perfect place to spend the day watching the tug boats, float planes, cruise ships , whales and eagles, who thoroughly entertained us. We loved all the hiking trails and Jim enjoyed the fishing. Wasn't lucky enough to get salmon but we did ship home some halibut. We loved every minute we were there and sure hope to maybe return next year???

My husband and I stayed at the Coho Beach House June 4th - 8th, 2011. It's a beautiful house - the photos are very accurate - the views from the lower level as well as the upstairs master bedroom are spectacular! We had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable with a grill, fully stocked kitchen, deck furniture, etc. and everything was in immaculate condition. It was fun to watch for sea lions and whales in the water as well as eagles on shore. We were wanting a secluded spot to spend a few days and this worked perfectly - even though the owners are right on site, they weren't intrusive but we knew they were there if we needed anything. We would definitely stay here again and recommend the property to family and friends!

My husband and I recently stayed at COHO Beach House to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. This was our 2nd trip to Alaska and far exceeded the last. The Beach House was perfect, excellent accommodations and very clean. We felt like we had the Island to ourselves since tourism season was past. We stayed the first week in October. Despite the rain and 3 major storms that hit the Island, we loved every moment. Our hosts were the best and proveded excellent service. This is a place you truly feel your on vacation with R&R. We loved the Island and Ketchikan. We rented a car and explored every bit of it. The hiking trails were amazing. I felt like we were at Disney as they were groomed and just beautiful. :) Dude Mountain Trail was our favorite as you view the vista of snow capped mountains. Truly beautiful. Words cannot express what an incredible place this is. A true piece of paradise.
Owner response:We had hurricane force winds and day-long power outages during this time, and these guests embraced the adventure, getting out during breaks in the storm and seeing the sites. It's a pleasure to have guests who make themselves so at home in our little town. Maura

After seeing the photographs of the Coho Beach cabin on the cover of the January VRBO email newsletter, I knew that this was the place I wanted to share with my wife, Lynn, my 55th birthday (July 6th). And what a great decision that was! This place is truly wonderful! The minute we walked into the cabin and saw the view of the water through the windows in the living room, we knew that rest and relaxation were the order of our stay. The description of the cabin itself was accurate in all aspects – from the well-appointed kitchen, to the living room with the awesome views, to the comfy bedrooms. And even so, words still do not prepare one for the gorgeous scenery and the delight of watching the fishing boats, cruise ships and floatplanes go by. Lynn and I enjoyed countless hours simply sitting on the outside deck, viewing nature fly, swim or cruise by as we grilled wonderful salmon steaks, sipped wine and watched the sun go down, transforming itself into an incredible red orb as it dipped over the mountains beyond. Truly spectacular! Joe and Maura – you both have a unique little place here in Alaska. Thank you both and your partners, the Hooks, for converting this cabin into a place that guests such as Lynn and I can come to create our own special memories of Alaska - and to meet great people!
Owner response:It was our pleasure meeting you both. So fun to hear your enthusiasm, and see your enjoyment of our area. Thanks again -- The Coho Crew

We spent our honeymoon watching incredible sunsets, soaring eagles, and sea planes taking off and landing. Loved the window seat and all there was to do there--read, romance and watch the world go by. The views through the inlet are breathtaking. The owners were there or not there as we needed them. We had a wonderful time at Coho Beach House.

My family and I just returned from an 8 night stay at the Coho Beach house and I can't rave about it enough. It was the perfect location for our active family. The guest house is immaculately clean and cared for by the owners with love. From the lighted walkway down to the cottage, to the beautifully planted pots around the deck to the comfortable bedrooms and the spacious family room with spectacular views, we felt right at home here. The location, just 7 minutes from the town of Ketchikan is perfect. Anything that we wanted to do was very close. Lots of great hikes, kayaking, ziplining, boating, fishing. The perfect location. It was great to have the kitchen and laundry facilities too. The BBQ was a must for our fresh catch of the day. With two children, it was great to be able to have breakfast at home in the morning on the deck with a breathtaking view. Maura and Joe stopped by to visit and made us feel welcome and were a great resource in planning the trip. The shoal beach at the cottage was its own mini aquarium and nature center - lots of beautiful starfish at low tide, a baby sea otter popping up to say "hi", a deer and her fawn visiting one morning.........bliss! This was our first experience with a vacation rental - I hope that Coho Beach House hasn't spoiled us!!!! They have set the bar high and far exceeded our expectations. Granted the natural beauty that is Alaska is not hard to work with but Coho Beach House would be a treat in any locale!
Owner response:Thanks so much for your kind words. We love it here, and it's a pleasure to share it with guests such as yourselves!
