Gorgeous well-appointed beachfront vacation home in Ketchikan with many wild life viewings

From the time we drove up to the property to the time we left we were blown away by the views, the sunsets, and the cleanliness of the Coho Beach House. It was very easy to find in the daylight - very close to the airport. The minute we drove up, Joe came out to great us and an eagle flew right over our heads. The next day, a large eagle was sitting in our tree. We saw eagles every day; even saw an otter and a seal swim up as we sat on the balcony. Every night we had a breath-taking sunset - even the day it rained. Our expectations of the house were definitely exceeded. The house looked brand-new - not even a spider web or a speck of dust. My husband works for the Four Seasons, so he's especially picky. He wants to come back every year! This house is perfect for a couple or a family. The two bedrooms upstairs are close and there's just one large bathroom downstairs. Even though it's near the main drag, it's very private. We enjoyed driving around Ketchikan - then coming back to the house at 4 or 5 and sitting there until the sun set - about 8:45 every night. Can't wait to go back!

We wanted to let you know what a wonderful time we had at the COHO house. The house was a perfect place to spend the day watching the tug boats, float planes, cruise ships , whales and eagles, who thoroughly entertained us. We loved all the hiking trails and Jim enjoyed the fishing. Wasn't lucky enough to get salmon but we did ship home some halibut. We loved every minute we were there and sure hope to maybe return next year???

My husband and I stayed at the Coho Beach House June 4th - 8th, 2011. It's a beautiful house - the photos are very accurate - the views from the lower level as well as the upstairs master bedroom are spectacular! We had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable with a grill, fully stocked kitchen, deck furniture, etc. and everything was in immaculate condition. It was fun to watch for sea lions and whales in the water as well as eagles on shore. We were wanting a secluded spot to spend a few days and this worked perfectly - even though the owners are right on site, they weren't intrusive but we knew they were there if we needed anything. We would definitely stay here again and recommend the property to family and friends!

Awesome vacation rental

Guest: In love with Alaska (Pennsylvania)
Date of Stay: 10/05/10 Review Submitted: 10/20/10

My husband and I recently stayed at COHO Beach House to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. This was our 2nd trip to Alaska and far exceeded the last. The Beach House was perfect, excellent accommodations and very clean. We felt like we had the Island to ourselves since tourism season was past. We stayed the first week in October. Despite the rain and 3 major storms that hit the Island, we loved every moment. Our hosts were the best and proveded excellent service. This is a place you truly feel your on vacation with R&R. We loved the Island and Ketchikan. We rented a car and explored every bit of it. The hiking trails were amazing. I felt like we were at Disney as they were groomed and just beautiful. :) Dude Mountain Trail was our favorite as you view the vista of snow capped mountains. Truly beautiful. Words cannot express what an incredible place this is. A true piece of paradise.

Owner response:We had hurricane force winds and day-long power outages during this time, and these guests embraced the adventure, getting out during breaks in the storm and seeing the sites. It's a pleasure to have guests who make themselves so at home in our little town. Maura

Fabulous Alaskan Retreat

My family and I just returned from an 8 night stay at the Coho Beach house and I can't rave about it enough. It was the perfect location for our active family. The guest house is immaculately clean and cared for by the owners with love. From the lighted walkway down to the cottage, to the beautifully planted pots around the deck to the comfortable bedrooms and the spacious family room with spectacular views, we felt right at home here. The location, just 7 minutes from the town of Ketchikan is perfect. Anything that we wanted to do was very close. Lots of great hikes, kayaking, ziplining, boating, fishing. The perfect location. It was great to have the kitchen and laundry facilities too. The BBQ was a must for our fresh catch of the day. With two children, it was great to be able to have breakfast at home in the morning on the deck with a breathtaking view. Maura and Joe stopped by to visit and made us feel welcome and were a great resource in planning the trip. The shoal beach at the cottage was its own mini aquarium and nature center - lots of beautiful starfish at low tide, a baby sea otter popping up to say "hi", a deer and her fawn visiting one morning.........bliss! This was our first experience with a vacation rental - I hope that Coho Beach House hasn't spoiled us!!!! They have set the bar high and far exceeded our expectations. Granted the natural beauty that is Alaska is not hard to work with but Coho Beach House would be a treat in any locale!

Owner response:Thanks so much for your kind words. We love it here, and it's a pleasure to share it with guests such as yourselves!

We spent our honeymoon watching incredible sunsets, soaring eagles, and sea planes taking off and landing. Loved the window seat and all there was to do there--read, romance and watch the world go by. The views through the inlet are breathtaking. The owners were there or not there as we needed them. We had a wonderful time at Coho Beach House.

Wonderful Birthday Experience

Guest: 55th Birthday "Boy" (Houston, Texas)
Date of Stay: 07/05/10 Review Submitted: 08/11/10

After seeing the photographs of the Coho Beach cabin on the cover of the January VRBO email newsletter, I knew that this was the place I wanted to share with my wife, Lynn, my 55th birthday (July 6th). And what a great decision that was! This place is truly wonderful! The minute we walked into the cabin and saw the view of the water through the windows in the living room, we knew that rest and relaxation were the order of our stay. The description of the cabin itself was accurate in all aspects – from the well-appointed kitchen, to the living room with the awesome views, to the comfy bedrooms. And even so, words still do not prepare one for the gorgeous scenery and the delight of watching the fishing boats, cruise ships and floatplanes go by. Lynn and I enjoyed countless hours simply sitting on the outside deck, viewing nature fly, swim or cruise by as we grilled wonderful salmon steaks, sipped wine and watched the sun go down, transforming itself into an incredible red orb as it dipped over the mountains beyond. Truly spectacular! Joe and Maura – you both have a unique little place here in Alaska. Thank you both and your partners, the Hooks, for converting this cabin into a place that guests such as Lynn and I can come to create our own special memories of Alaska - and to meet great people!

Owner response:It was our pleasure meeting you both. So fun to hear your enthusiasm, and see your enjoyment of our area. Thanks again -- The Coho Crew

We LOVED it!

Date of Stay: 06/19/10 Review Submitted: 07/14/10

We want to thank you for sharing your beachhouse! In actuality it is newer and nicer than even the pictures show. It was well-stocked with kitchen appliances, dishes, glasses and utensils. The bed was comfortable and even the linens were luxurious. The layout of the house was such that we felt at home from the moment we walked in. We loved being able to remove our shoes right inside the front door and set our backpacks, keys, hats, slickers, etc. on the counter next to the washer and dryer. We'd walk through the "ready room" (as we called it), shut the door and be surrounded by views on three sides. We loved the warmth of the wood floors, the deck on three sides and the windows and window seat upstairs. During the week we watched cruise ships, tug boats, barges, float planes and fishing boats go by Ward's Cove and we LOVED it! The views of the channel islands, the trees, the island across the channel and, of course, the wildlife were breathtaking! We saw bald eagles almost daily, watched tiny "salmon fries" jump again and again out of the water -- we even saw a mink scurrying along the shoreline right off of the deck! I want future renters of the Coho Beach House to know that you and Joe provide helpful advice. The local information you provide is invaluable -- you can't do better than talking to people who live there! Thanks again for welcoming us with the teapot full of pansies and columbine and for ALL of your hospitality and advice. We hope to see you again with some other members of our family!

The best part of our trip to Alaska was staying at the Coho Beach House - what a fabulous house! Watching the tides coming in and out, seeing the cruise ships in the distance, fishing from the "beach", cooking our fresh caught salmon at the house, seeing the eagles - WOW! You really have a very special place and we are so very happy to have been able to stay with you. You really couldn't ask for a better place to stay while in town - Maura, Joe, Dan and Katy are absolutely wonderful people. We're already trying to plan another trip to stay with you again next summer! Thanks so much for all the amazing memories of our trip to Ketchikan, Alaska.

What a wonderful cabin! We really enjoyed our vacation there. We got a chance to see and film a couple of killer whales coming through and the bald eagles woke us up on more than one occasion in the mornings. Couldn't have asked for a finer wake up call!! This was our first visit to Alaska and we hope to return. Thanks for letting us stay in your sweet cabin!

We really enjoyed our stay at Coho Beach House. The house is almost as beautiful as the scenery from the deck. As first time visitors to Ketchikan it was great having the owners nearby to give us advice. It is obvious that the owners take great pride in their vacation rental.

Kathy and I had the opportunity to stay at this magical place in March of '09. Most places are shown in photos that overstate the nature of the building and the setting. Coho House, as a full image, is much more spectacular in person than can be presented in photography. The quality of the building, fixtures, decorations and all the emenities are first class. We will definitely repeat a stay at this wonderful piece of Ketchikan. The proprietors, Odell's and Hook's, are there if you need them, but otherwise leave you alone to enjoy your stay.

We enjoyed our adventure to Ketchikan. Your guesthouse is so warm and cozy, it was nice to come “home” to at the end of the day. It has been so relaxing and awesome. We were able to see some wonderful wildlife while sitting at the house such as Killer Whales (thanks to Dan for the call), seals, starfish and a few Bald Eagles. Our timing for our trip did limit our ability to enjoy many of the tourist attractions, but being able to sit and look at such a wonderful view made up for it since I’m not sure we would have wanted to be gone a lot anyway.Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece of heaven. We will be back.

Thank you for sharing your paradise on the point with us this week. It was marvelously restful to watch the tides come in and out between our hiking adventures. Our favorites were Perseverance Lake and Lunch Creek, up above the salmon. Views at the little Settler’s Cove loop were great too. We were lucky enough to hit Mud Bight on a deserted, no cruise ship day, and watched some seals frolicking in the kelp. A local’s advice to visit Herring Cove at dusk let us check the last of our Alaska Wildlife boxes, a bear, last night. Thanks for the humpback call – we missed that one but saw several of its friends on the ferry ride in.Most importantly, we really appreciate your tasteful and thorough provisioning of this haven. You’ve hit everything just right with all the right thoughtful additions. Thanks for making us feel so comfortable for our 40th birthday.

What a great retreat for a local couple. We loved this restful, peaceful, beautiful evening away from the ordinariness of daily life. So beautiful to perch above the water with a 300 degree window view and just gaze. Last night I woke up as a majestic ferry all-lit glided by in the mist. As I write this, a cruise ship is emerging from the mist to the north. I would recommend this to all my friends. Come to the edge of town to this little quiet place with your spouse. Take time to appreciate the beauty of our town. Take time to enjoy uninterrupted time with each other. Thank you for donating this auction item to Public Radio. Your gift supported KRBD and also generously allowed local friends to share the pleasure of your beach property. p.s. I love the arrangement of pictures, post cards and chart in the window frame. So cool to see the before and after views.

We enjoyed our stay here. What a wonderful way to spend a vacation. We got some good pictures from the deck. We liked looking at the books about Alaska, there was a good selection. We will most likely rent the house again because we do plan on coming back to visit with the kids. It was nice to be close but still have our quiet time. Thanks so much, Vicky & Dave

Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful beach house with us! The views are just stunning, and we really enjoyed wildlife watching from the windows & spacious decks. We did see the blond sea lion and the shark it bit into. Thanks for the “heads up” phone call. The shark swam so close to the deck we could see where the sea lion took a chunk out of it. Our very own Discovery Channel just outside the door. Cool!Watching the bald eagles land in the tree nest to the house was another highlight.

We have traveled all over the world, and been very fortunate to have stayed at some truly amazing places, but our stay at the Coho Beach House put all the rest to shame. What an amazing place. Well thought out and even prettier than the photos suggest-we truly did not want to return home. Thank you for your gift of salmon, and all the thoughtful extras in the home. When I am needing to conjure up a peaceful place to mentally unwind-it will be your Coho Beach House. Thank you! Beth Martin

Where do we begin? Celebrating our 10-year anniversary here in Alaska!First of all, the house is great! Absolutely love the big windows all around. The eagles flying above and seals swimming below. And we did see the sea lion – took some pictures of him too! …The sunsets are absolutely stunning… I think I took approx. 30 pictures of just that alone. You all are very blessed to have such a wonderful place. If we get to come back, we would pick this place again!

This house is just gorgeous. I stayed in it for several months while I was working in Ketchikan. Everything is brand new and super clean. It has a great open floor plan with spacious living and dining areas, a beautiful kitchen, 2 bedrooms on the second floor and a nice bathroom with a heated floor (a really nice touch). But what really sets this house apart from others is that it is built right over the water! It has a wrap around deck and tons of large windows with spectacular views of the water, mountains and other islands. I saw seals, otters, bald eagles, ect. either from the deck and also from any room in the house. I would highly recommend staying at this property.
