The 'Harbor Vista' is a very nice house. Lots of room for a group. The property was very clean and inviting. Our problems began with the washing machine not working, the owner was contacted and we were told the parts would not be in for a couple of days, and there was a laundermat we could use in Half Moon Bay. Just the way we wanted to spend our vacation, at a laundermat. I have a feeling the washing machine was broke before our arrival. The towels we took out of the linen closets were nasty smelling, like they got wet and not washed. The house keepers were bringing in towels from a laundermat, (why? the washer was a large capacity, late model). Our other complaint was there was only one full propane tank. The cooking grill was on a front upper deck, and the outside fire pit was in the lower back yard. We had to carry the tank through the house in order to use either feature. Again we were told to go have a tank filled (he would credit us). I think for the amount of money we payed for the week, these amenities should be in working order, or we should of been compensated in some way (maybe $50 off?). We would of given this vacation home 5 stars if the owner would of been more accomodating to our problems, but he ignored our numerous calls after the first time we notified him. We also did not receive our deposit back in a timely fashion as promised. It took many phone calls and e-mails to the owner (which he again ignored). I finally received the deposit back after I called HomeAway. By the way, there is 2 houses under construction right in front of the house, there goes the veiw!

WOW! What a great place to stay. A clean open floor plan. Plenty of room for everybody. We had a great time at the house and all over town. Both decks have a great view of the ocean. The back yard is kid friendly and the hot tub was a hit for all ages. House supplied plenty of towels, linens, and items you just wouldn't think about bringing on vacation. The outside fire pit was good for smore's. The home theater looks and sounds fantastic. The kitchen was very well equipped and had plenty of paper towels. The beds were comfortable. The neighbors emptied the trash on collection day and returned everything. Harbor Vista is an excellent rental property. We will stay there again.
Owner response:Thanks so much for your review! We are so happy you had a nice time at our home and enjoyed the views, hot tub and fire pit. We work hard to keep our home fully stocked and very clean, so it's great to hear that we exceeded your expectations. -Rich and Jen

I loved the quiet! Also enjoyed having the big roomy kitchen and the large dining table. The layout of the house was great in that we could have a large group in the living room--several people working on different things in the kitchen without being on top of each other and people who needed alone time could easily go to bedrooms or outside for contemplation. It was an extremely well-equipped kitchen which was a delight for our serious cooks and the weather was pleasant and adjustable for our tastes. Great place for small group intensives and also would work well for families with children of various ages. We would recommend this house to anyone in the future.

I strongly recommend this house to anyone interested in a quiet holiday in Half Moon Bay. I spent a week in the Harborvista with my wife and two small children in January. We experienced it as the perfect place to relax and rejuvenate after a demanding two-day journey (with an unexpected stopover in Frankfurt) from Norway. The house is charming, tidy, spacious, well equipped and has a wonderful view of the Pacific. It is situated in a quiet location with no traffic, so children can run and play around the house without risk. We enjoyed the spa in the back yard, the home theatre, and wonderful lunches in the sun. The owners, Rich and Jennifer, were exceptionally helpful and generous to us. We will certainly come back if we get the opportunity. Jarle

We had a lovely stay at Harbor Vista for 2 nights to celebrate my mom's birthday. The house is modern, clean and well maintained and has a great view of the harbor. Rich, the owner, wrote back to all my emails very quickly. We used the kitchen, the hot tub, the home theater system, the grill, and the backyard play structure...all worked well. The house is very kid-friendly, even with kid dishware. My mom liked the bed in the upstairs master suite so much she wants one for herself! The house is in a hilly residential neighborhood, so it was helpful to have a car.

We were at HV for a week with 3 generations! It worked wonderfully as the place is so well laid out. There are 3 levels (not counting the upper deck or fireplace area) giving people space for large gatherings as well as small break out groups. It worked great. Spacious yet cozy. But, most of all Rich was willing to change my reservations last minute due to family changing travel plans - yes he had the dates available but, he let me work it to suit my needs - all around the 4th of July weekend. Nice place and very communicative owners. Thanks. - ms (Bay Area)

We stayed at Harbor Vista for 4 nights in which we had an all female group, ten of us. Much to our wonderful surprise the accommodations were perfect for us. The spacious lay out, sleeping options and wonderul huge kitchen were perfect for us to enjoy. I would highly recommend this property for large families, multiple families or group get aways. It was minutes from HMB and some other wonderful attractions, not to mention the view. Two outdoor balconies allow you to enjoy the peace and calm of the surroundings. We would definately stay again.

I can’t recommend Harbor Vista heartily enough! We have just returned home from a fabulous stay there with our spread over the country adult kids and sweet grandchild. I wanted a place that would provide plenty of space for together time but also afford our diverse group areas for privacy, too. It was important to me that we be able to see the harbor from our rental house. My (grown) kids wanted a hot tub. Wherever we stayed needed to be toddler friendly, too. Harbor Vista provided all that and more. From its large, well equipped kitchen and expansive dining table set in front of a fantastic view of the harbor, outdoor grill, Jacuzzi, fire pit, fire place, wood stove, decks overlooking the harbor, to its fabulous entertainment center coupled with plenty of games and toys for all ages, staying at Harbor Vista was a terrific experience. Toss in a beautiful home that shows better in real life than its online pictures, ultra comfy beds, multiple spacious bathrooms, laundry, phone service, internet connection, and TV’s in a couple of the bedrooms and, suffice it to say, we were a contented group! For the birder in the bunch (me) there are even resident Red Tailed Hawks living near the house. Every morning, cup of coffee in hand and binoculars in tow, I would begin my day on the upper deck watching the sun come up and the harbor, along with its associated wildlife, wake up. As mentioned in other reviews, Harbor Vista is located near other homes. That notwithstanding, due to the lay of the land and the manner in which the homes in the lovely neighborhood are oriented, there is a sense of built in privacy that we really appreciated. It is amazing how Half Moon Bay seems worlds apart from nearby San Francisco! Between the great home, superb location, great restaurants and fantastic foodstuffs available for home cooked meals, and myriad things to do in the general area; I look forward to returning to Harbor Vista. Thanks for the great experience, Rich and Jen!

The house at Harbor Vista was absolutely wonderful. The view from the decks is spectacular, and the inside is warm and inviting. The house was well appointed with everything we needed to walk right in and start our vacation. The kitchen was especially nice with all the updated appliances. We were very happy at how kid friendly the house was. Our 11yr old, 4yr old, and 2yr old twins had a blast. It is only a few short minutes to the beach and surrounding amenities. The children's park in Moss Beach, about 4 miles North on Highway 1, is a must if you have children who enjoy playgrounds. We really enjoyed our stay, and plan on returning later in the year.

What a great Christmas we had in Half Moon Bay. Our adult kids live out in the Bay area and staying at the Harbor Vista home was a great way for all of us to spend Christmas together. We set up a Christmas tree and made all the holiday treats. On Christmas day we were able to host a few of our kid's friends that couldn't get home for the holiday for an incredible day of eating and enjoying each other's company. We capped off the evening by first sitting out back in the hot tub and then going inside for a movie. The house was large enough that we weren't on top of each other yet warm and inviting. What a great location! Thanks.

Stayed at this fabulous place to celebrate a girlfriend's 50th birthday. There were about 15-16 gals, with people coming and going all weekend. Prepared some great meals in the wonderfully equipped kitchen and enjoyed cocktails at sunset on the front deck. The house is close to the beach and great restaurants, but cozy enough to just hang out and chill. I will recommend this place to everyone!!

stayed here with a group of 8 for my 30th birthday party and had a really great experience. The house is lovely, well-stocked, and well-appointed. The owners clearly take good care of it. I was craving that oceanview sunset. One night was foggy, but the other night was truly beautiful. We also had a really nice day on the beach, which is a steep walk or very short drive away. The owners were very helpful and accommodating. My only complaint was that I like to cook and knives were...poor. But I mentioned this to the owner afterward and he said he would bring a new set the very next weekend. I hadn't realized that the house is actually pretty close to a couple of neighboring houses. But we were pretty rowdy - made a quite a bit of noise for 8 people - and the neighbors didn't seem to mind. So no big deal, really. I would definitely highly recommend this house.
Owner response:Thanks, David. I did indeed replace the knives with a new set of Henckels knives last weekend. We also had a friend over who cooked dinner for 8 of us and she said we had everything she needed to make a great meal. We hope to have you back again soon!

Your home is sooooo comfortable and the King bed in the Master Suite was wonderful. We slept so well each night (the fog horn was "soothing" to me!). We spent a lot of time "hanging out", reading, and Ken learning a few new songs on his guitar. It was peaceful, quiet and perfect.

We purchased a 3 night stay at the property through my children's school auction. We found it extremely easy to schedule our stay, and the owners were very accommodating when we decided to change a date last minute. In addition, the owners sent us information about dining out opportunities and a name of their well trusted babysitter. We stayed in the property with another family and the kids had a blast together. There was a room with bunk beds (that's all they needed) and a huge family room and kitchen for entertaining. The property was very clean and had all the amenities needed for a wonderful stay (and a washer and dryer!). I would definitely recommend the place!

A group of us spent Memorial Day weekend at this lovely vacation home. This was the first time we've rented a vacation home instead of a hotel and we loved it! We can't wait to do it again! Everything was provided for you and was clean and tidy. No problem checking in or checking out and the owners were super nice to deal with. Keyless entry (keycode) made it super easy to go in and out. We were able to go to the beach and play volleyball, went to the driving range, drove 20mins to San Mateo to go bowling, walked down to see the harbor and shops, and most of all enjoyed the house games, 1000-piece puzzle, and relaxing hot tub. The place is great for kids too- full play structure outside! The pictures and description of the house matched what is on the websites. This is a great place and highly recommend!!!

I stayed at Harbor Vista to celebrate a birthday with several great friends (we live in Bay area so this was an easy weekend getaway for us). The house was exactly as described and the owners are really helpful in terms of answering questions promptly and providing loads of accurate local information. The property is clean with great linens on beds and wonderful layout and amenities for a group to enjoy each other near the beach. Fabulous sunsets from the deck, warm/clean easy to use jacuzzi, lots of space, great wood fire stove and fireplace, comfy furniture. Location is wonderful -- easy to access best beaches, local retail and spa/yoga places, restaurants and shopping...Half Moon Bay (which is a great off-season destination) is EASY, fun, kinda wanting to be artsy, surfery, good food, really laid back, a great balance of nature/social consciousness and access to the "upscale" goods/services if you're into that kind of treat, too. We were all adults in the property, but it would work really well with two families sharing with kids of any age. I would definitely recommend this property, and hope to return myself.
Owner response:Wow, thanks! We really appreciate the kind words. It captures all the things we love about the Half Moon Bay area, and we're really glad that you enjoyed staying at our home so much. -Rich and Jen

This was our family's first experience renting a vacation home for a small reunion instead of 3 or 4 hotel rooms, and it was fantastic. We spent a lot more time together and really enjoyed the feeling of a home rather being separated most of the time in a hotel. The owners were friendly, quick to respond back, and the arrangements were easy to make and confirm. The home has 3 bedrooms and a sleeper sofa in a downstairs family room and comfortably held 7 adults and 4 children. I will say that this home was very family and child friendly, with board games, toys, high chairs, porta-cribs all available to use. We sat around the fire place most nights which was great. In addition, the backyard had a play structure which was great fun for kids, and the jacuzzi was an added bonus. For the grown ups, we had 2 bottles of wine that greeted us, with a gift certificate for a local restaurant that we made use of that had excellent breakfast... The common areas were large and clean with great light and oceanviews. There was a great large dining table that was able to seat all of us comfortably during meals or late night chats. The kitchen was well-stocked and the instructions for all the appliances were available and straightforward. Also, the owners had a binder of local areas of interest as well as dining recommendations locally and even menus of many of the restaurants which was really a great help in getting out to explore the area or just order in. Lastly, the location in Half Moon Bay was great. We had plans to be in both the Stanford area (Palo Alto) as well as some day trips to San Fransisco, both of which were about 30 minutes away. The drive was easy, but with some windy areas which were only an issue at night... (two lanes, few streetlights). Otherwise, we had a great time. I would highly recommend this property to families, particularlythose with kids looking for a refreshing change of venue on vacation.
