We've booked 8 nights and hoped for a nice place away from the crowds and landed in paradise! This place is magic, nestled in a tropical garden, away from it all, the Bird Song Cottage is wonderful, very well maintained cottage with everything you could look for and even more. The kitchen is fully-equipped with toaster, fridge, juicer, stove, oven, general kitchen supplies, even spices and oil. To the front and the back you'll have a nice patio, one shaded with deck chairs, a hammock and the front patio overlooking the garden, you can even see the sea. Great quality bed, we're both quite tall and heavy people and slept like babies! I loved the outdoor shower and outdoor bath tub. Enjoying a bath while the birds are singing around you shaded by flowers and palm trees was definitely a memorable experience!¯ Carole even offers you a great collection of beach gear - beach chars, snorkel gear and beach towels. We've used it numerous times, great as the beaches at the North Shore are made for snorkeling. The overall experience with Carole as a host was great! She was very responsive, helpful and welcomed us with some fresh picked fruits and a nice welcome letter. I can only say that the images don't even describe how wonderful this place is. We had the best time and will definitely come back. Thanks a lot Carole & Lee!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

I've rented a dozen cottages on Kaua'i over the years, and Bird Song is, hands down, the BEST. The cottage is bright, airy, comfortable, cozy, spotless and beautifully decorated. It features very high-quality bedding, a nicely equipped and well-designed kitchen, big windows and sliders everywhere, a roomy seating area and dining alcove, two lanais, and a secluded outdoor shower and soaking tub. Bird song is nestled in expansive, completely private grounds, surrounded by tropical trees, colorful shrubs and fragrant flowers, with the ocean visible beyond the big trees in the front yard. Beside the cottage is a grove of fruit trees, with pink grapefruit, oranges, tangelos, mangoes and bananas that guests are invited to pick. I arrived to a basket of fresh-picked fruit, a personal note and a notebook of information about island activities, shopping, beaches and restaurants. Wild, glorious Larsen's Beach is just down the road from the cottage, the sweet village of Kilauea and wonderful Banana Joe's fruit stand are just a few miles up the road, and there are many more picturesque, uncrowded beaches all the way up the North Shore to the end of the road, many with world-class snorkeling. Two weekly farmers' markets in Kilauea are not to be missed for fresh, organic fruit, vegetables, flowers and baked goods. NaPali Catamarans, in Hanalei, is a great outfit that takes a limited number of guests on morning and afternoon cruises up to the spectacular NaPali Coast to see its remarkable, soaring, deeply pleated cliffs, sea caves and pocket beaches. It's one of the only companies whose boats leave from Hanalei instead of way down on the south side of the island. Carole, Bird Song's owner (with her husband Lee) was spectacularly welcoming, graciously inviting me to check in very early because I had contracted a nasty respiratory infection and faced a long day of wretched illness between checking out of my previous rental at 10AM and the usual 3PM check-in for Bird Song. I will go back to this cottage next year for at least a week, and very much look forward to seeing my angel Carole again!Owner response: April was definitely citrus time this year. We also have an organic vegetable and herb garden near our home, and are happy to share the abundance with our guests. Thank you Nancy, for choosing Bird Song. Looking forward to seeing you again in April next year!

As soon as we pulled up the driveway we knew we had picked the perfect spot for our romantic getaway. The furnishings of the cottage exceeded our expectations with an emphasis on the soaking tub (heavenly). We loved the location, as we were able to make multiple trips around the island without feeling like our destination was out of the way. What a wonderful stay we had at the Birdsong Cottage! Our hosts had everything lined up for our arrival and could not have been more gracious in their welcome. As other guests have noted, it is as lovely as it looks online. Also, the warmth and privacy of the cottage and the natural environment is priceless. Perhaps the most idyllic place we have ever stayed! I don’t know the last time we slept so well and waking up to the view of the yard is something we will cherish for a long time. Thank you for having everything we could need. We wish we could bring the outdoor shower home with us. We can’t wait to come back and will recommend this as the only place to stay on Kauai. What a wonderful place -Bird Song Cottage. It was everything we hoped for plus more. We enjoyed having the windows open and listening to all the creatures - & yes, even the chickens. We felt so relaxed by day 3, but it helped having a massage the day we arrived – AWESOME. Our first time in Kauai, this has been a wonderful experience & would come back in a heart beat. Will recommend it to anybody. Hopefully next time we will stay longer before we island hop. Jason & Regina Spokane, WADid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

After two weeks here this little corner of the universe feels like home to us – just what we hoped for our honeymoon. We enjoyed every bit of the place and hope to find our way back again in the future. We depart with heavy hearts leaving behind the lush landscapes, amazing experiences and incredible closeness that only a trip like this can offer. We’ll especially miss breakfasting on the lanai, swaying in the hammock, rinsing off outdoors after salty dips in the ocean, and using the many gifts of this place: Fresh squeezed juice in the mornings, boogie boards, snorkel gear, cooler and chairs along for the ride everywhere we went, and soaking under the stars. And Massages! Simultaneous massages in the cottage… everyone should be so lucky. In love with life, each other and this place. Jen and Jen Portland, ORDid you find this review helpful? I have never written a review for accomodations before, but I'm still beaming from our visit and knowing there are others out there who rely heavily on reviews when looking for the perfect place, I wanted to share our thoughts. We stayed two weeks in Kauai in four different places and we wished we could have spent the entire vacation at Bird Song! It is the ideal location for peace and serenity, yet it's close enough to all of our favorite spots. We adored the fresh fruit every morning from the orchard, the lazy mornings reading in the hammock, and watching the geckos play at night. (They showed up on the walls every evening, but we didn't mind at all. In fact, they were entertaining to watch and are harmless). It was a relaxing and restful place to end our busy days exploring the island. And we recommend the pizza at Pau Hana in Kilauea. It's the best! And the on-site massage with Kristen and Sean was fabulous! Thank you Carol and Lee for such a well-appointed cottage! It really does feel like staying at the home of a friend. We will plan our return trip as soon as possible. Mahalo and much aloha!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Much Mahalo's Melanie. We're delighted you enjoyed yourselves and look forward to having you back again.

We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect place to stay. The seclusion and beauty of the cottage and grounds is idyllic. We love the sounds of the “critters” that sing us to sleep at night (crickets, geckos, etc.) and the calls of the roosters to wake us each morning. We did some things during our time on Kauai (Scuba Diving, Ziplining, Kayaking, Boat Tours and walking, walking, walking!) but whether it was the end of the day or simply a break before our next activity, time spent here always left us feeling refreshed for our next adventure. From our initial inquiries, to check-out, you have been totally cordial and accommodating, we will not hesitate to recommend Birdsong to anyone considering a trip to Kauai. Mahalo, Lori and Scott Warren, MI We just wanted to send you one final "thank you" for the use of your incredibly beautiful cottage. It was better than we dreamed! We couldn't get over the grounds surrounding the cottage, they seemed to stretch on forever and it was all so well cared for and landscaped. It was like a paradise within paradise. The bananas were fantastic by the way! Our last few hours there ticked away almost tangibly and it was surely one of the hardest vacations we've ever had to go home from. We loved the bed, the shower, the hammock, we even loved playing "catch the gecko" at night (don't worry we were gentle with them). It was one of the most relaxing environments we've ever had the privilege to be in. When the time comes to start planning our return, you will certainly be the first people we contact. We had a fantastic time at Bird Song. The property is very much as described by the owners. It is very private and close to some of the world's most pristine and secluded beaches. The driveway is lined with banana trees, and we ate bananas for three or four days. The best feature of Bird Song is the extent to which the owners have provided everything renters might need. We used the lunch cooler, umbrellas, beach chairs, straw mats, and other items. There is also a hose with a high-pressure nozzle for washing off beach sand. Anyone who has been to the beach knows how important this is! David and Lucy from Norman, OKDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My Mom and I stayed at Birdsong Cottage June 2011 and had such a lovely, relaxing vacation on Kauai. The cottage has absolutely everything you need, the grounds and orchard surrounding the cottage are beautiful and it just really feels like you're away from it all! This cottage was truly lovely and inviting. From the moment we pulled up the driveway, we felt like we were in our own secluded paradise. The cottage is well off the road (a sidestreet, not the main road) and surrounded by trees, and, of course, birds. Really delightful. The interior is furnished beautifully - it felt like we were staying at the cottage of some old friends. Games, cookware, beach reads, and dvds were all provided, plus everything you'd need to go to the beach: snorkel gear, chairs, a cooler, mats, towels, everything. The location is actually pretty central (on the north side, but quite near the eastern turn) and allowed us to explore the eastern and northern portions of the island easily. The closest group of stores and restaurants is probably the Kong Lung center on the road to Kilauea lighthouse. We had a couple meals there and they were all pretty good. There's also a fish market and produce store there - great to pick things up to fix dinner. When we needed something, one of the owners came by to deliver it right away. In summary, a really great place to stay, near Larsen's beach. We would stay again in a heartbeat.Owner response: We do our best to make the home feel welcoming, and as we've had many returning guests, we too enjoy the feeling of 'old friends' staying there. We hope to have you and Tim back again as well.

We recently stayed at the Birdsong Cottage in Kaua'i as part of of our honeymoon. Words can not describe the dreamy experience. We never heard cars, trucks, motorcycle, noisy neighbors, etc. Just the birds and the occasional chickens the island is known for. It was heaven on earth. The hammock in the backyard was a peaceful respite at the end of every day. We slept with the doors and windows open every night and I never was congested in the morning like I am at home. The cottage layout was perfect for what we needed. It was very comfy and cozy. As one that travels and sleeps in hotels often i chuckle when hotel chains try to get you to think, "we are your home away from home". The Birdsong really made us both feel that we were indeed home. At the end of the day we'd even say, "let's head home". We've always envisioned buying a house on the beach, but after staying at the Birdsong we'd rather live in the lushness of the island. The one thing that stands out was it was so easy to come and go as opposed to a hotel where you wait on the valet, or try to remember what lot you parked last. Carol and Lee had everything in the house we needed. While we had aspirations of cooking our own meals (gas stove, full sized fridge, plenty of cooking utensils, and a grill out back) the local eateries of Kapa'a and Hanalei proved too tasty to resist. We would definitely like to return on our 1 year wedding anniversary. Plus we've already been telling our friends and would gladly forward any info to them. If anyone is thinking about it, stop thinking, and email Lee and Carol. You won't be sorry.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

Birdsong Cottage was the perfect place for our 10-year anniversary trip. Beautiful, charming, private, but very comfortable. Even the visits from the geckos were fun. We really enjoyed using the beach blanket and snorkle gear. The location was convenient to all the sights, but worlds apart from the crowded resort scene. Mahalo for letting us escape from the world in this lovely little cottage.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Birdsong was great; loved the outdoor shower. We visited 10 beaches while we were there. We liked Larson's beach the best of all and it is right down the street. Thanks Carole!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

If Hawaii is paradise on earth, Bird Song Cottage is paradise on Kauai. The first eight days of our honeymoon have been magical. The flora and fauna around the cottage deliver on the promise of Kauai’s rich beauty. Waking to the lyrical sound of the white rumped shama and the red crested cardinal was a treat. Fresh squeezed orange and grapefruit juice almost every morning. We hiked the canyon and into the mountains. We kayaked , toured the north western coast in a powered hang glider, saw myriad of wild life – tropical birds, albatross with their chicks, a mama monk seal and her pup, and a wild boar. We’ve walked most of the beautiful beaches on the north side and taken way too many photos. We hit many of the recommended restaurants and when we returned to Bird Song Cottage every night we felt as though we were returning home. The occasional bath under the stars helped. So Mahalo for the hospitality in making the first leg of our honeymoon truly memorable. We will be back. (The farmers markets made cooking nice vegetarian organic meals easy! What a wonderful island.)Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our second trip to Kauai and our second stay at Bird Song Cottage (aptly named, roosters excluded – just kidding, since they have their roles). We returned because we were besotted the first time and childless and carefree in 2008. This time busy, fun and silly with our 14 month old, Simone. We thought it was ideal for a baby (we don’t have this kind of property back home in the city, and the baby loved exploring the fruit trees with us, checking out the flowers and chickens, swinging on the hammock). Why oh why did we not book at least a few extra days in this beautiful place? Because we were meant to return! Thanks for sharing your incredible property –Did you find this review helpful? Thank you for allowing us to rent your beautiful cottage during our honeymoon stay on Kauai. Our goal was to feel at home on the island and this was the perfect spot. Your hospitality was much appreciated and it was a pleasure doing business with you. Much thanks for everything.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had the good fortune to stay at Bird Song Cottage for 5 days during our trip to Hawaii. It was incredibly peaceful and a beautiful place to start our holiday. The cottage itself is very quaint. The owners have provided almost anything that you could need or want during your holiday. We loved star gazing from the outdoor hot tub especially. Would definitely go back and recommend this place to friends!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This is our second time to Bird Song Cottage. What a romantic, perfect place for two people to share in the paradise of Kauai. We had a most relaxing and picture perfect time. The cottage is appropriately named for the birds that put you to sleep at night and wake you in the morning. Thanks Lee & Carole for the home farm raised fruit and creation of Bird Song Cottage, and sharing it with us.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

WOW! We stayed at the Bird Song Cottage for our honeymoon and it was fantastic! Everything is exactly as it looks in the pictures...clean, beautiful, romantic! The owners are SUPER NICE! They even picked up a package for me that I mailed to myself there. The cottage is centrally located too so you can go to all sorts of great places on the island. We hope to return again sometime soon!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a wonderful time at the cottage. We were looking for something away from it all and the cottage was perfect for that. I did extensive research for the perfect place to stay on our honeymoon and The Birdsong Cottage far surpassed our expectations. Loved the outdoor shower. We will definitely return in the future. Thank you for everything.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had our honeymoon at the cottage and it was perfect. It was exactly what we were looking for. After an 18-month engagement and dealing with all of the families all we wanted was to find some peace and reconnected. We wanted a secluded and relaxing time and that is what we got at the Bird Song Cottage. I could not have imagined going anywhere else. Thank you so much for a wonderful honeymoon. We will definitely be returning in the future.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
