Location: Papohaku Beach, Molokai, Hawaii, USA View Map
Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)
Our retirement home was finished in 2007, everything is new. The home is 1500 sq ft on one floor with a 650 sq ft lanai that has about 400 sq ft covered. You'll spend most of your time on our lanai deck. The panoramic view is spectacular and the solitude is unique. The kitchen is complete with granite counter top, stainless steel appliances, cherry wood cabinets and wood floors throughout. The tile showers are spacious and the Ocean & mountain view from the master shower is gorgeous.
From the living room, kitchen, master bedroom & lanai your view is of Kaiaka Rock, Papohaku Beach, the ocean front Kaluakoi Golf Course and Oahu is the island you look out on. During clear days & at night you can see Honolulu, Waikiki, & Diamond Head.
If the glitz and the shopping of Waikiki is what you are looking for, Molokai is not for you. If you are looking for relaxation, privacy, solitude or a romantic getaway, then you'll love Molokai. We think of it as Montana in the middle of the Pacific, without the winter. Our home is in the West End of Molokai. This is the dry side, which means most days are sunny. During the winter Molokai gets some great surf without the crowds and during the summer you'll find some of the best snorkeling in the world. Our home is on 5 acres of privacy. The Molokai people are famous for their hospitality. Molokai is the old Hawaii and the people want to keep it that way. Respect the island and the people will respect you.
Maunaloa is located 5 miles away, however the Molokai Lodge is currently closed as well as a movie theater. There are a number of excellent restaurants within 15-20 minutes that provide a variety of specialties. Grocery stores, with everything you'll need are in famous Kaunakakai town which is about 20 minutes drive. There is also a grocery store in Maunaloa and a gift shop with chips, drinks, etc about 1 mile from our house. On Saturday mornings Kaunakakai hosts a fun farmers/crafts market. We normally eat in and enjoy the sunset from our deck. If you like star-gazing, and the night is clear, The Milky Way looks like a cloud. With our telescope & binoculars you will see space and be awed as never before.

Why the Owner Chose Papohaku Beach
Actually this isn't our vacation home as much as our planned retirement home. We have been coming to Hawaii since the early 80's and we've visited all the islands. After looking at homes and land on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island we decided to try Molokai because we were looking for what Hawaii used to be rather than what it has become. We first visited Molokai in 1981 and we loved it then. We went back over the next few years but hadn't been there since 1987. In 2002 we went back and if it had changed we didn't see it. We fell in love with it again: the people, the beauty, the privacy and the simple life that exists there. Most people wear t-shirts, shorts & sandles. There is still no signal on the island. There is plenty to do if you like the outdoors: beach, hiking, riding a bike, snorkeling, scuba, fishing, relaxing, etc.
We have a commanding view of Papahaku Beach, Kiaka Rock, Oahu and Kaluakoi Resort.

I coach swimming at Corona del Mar H.S. in Newport Beach. This was taken at the League Championships in 2009. My wife Julie is much better looking, but I didn't have photo of her handy.
