Pros: great location, quiet and dark in bedrooms at night Cons: pressure and hot water in shower, or the lack of it; no wifi upstairs We stayed here over Easter break week. My wife and I have 2 children ages 10 and 12, so the bedroom layout was perfect for us, but offers little privacy. Our routine was to wake up late, grab a quick breakfast, then go out all day and return home around 8-9 PM. The apartment was well suited for us for 5 nights. The neighborhood felt safe with children at night. The apartment is on 2 floors, one at street level (w/ kitchen), and the bedroom level, which is below ground (very quiet, except for "white noise" from the ventilation system). The upper floor measured approx. 14x20 sq. ft., which includes a galley kitchen. Feeding more than 4 people more than breakfast, sandwiches or a snack would be a challenge. There are lots of places nearby (Il Duca was good, as was Taverna del Moro - "Tony's", and a bakery called "Forno la Renella" on Via Moro). Google "Giolitti" for the best gelato. There is a small pull-out couch opposite a flat-screen TV in the upper room. We did not use either couch for sleeping, but two adults on one of these couches would be tight. It would have been nice to watch soccer or the news after a whole day of walking, but the Italian sports channels did not come in well at all. No English-language channels. The wifi does not work on the upper floor - this could be easily fixed. The only bathroom is on the main floor near the stairwell. The hot water flow made it difficult to rinse long hair. I think that could be improved, as the cold water flow was normal. There is a smell in the bathroom area is probably due to the bidet. A three-tiered shelf that covers the shut-off and plugged-up bidet would be a better use of that space, in my opinion. The bedroom level has 2 rooms which are relatively private, and an area around the corner from the stairwell which is semi-private. There are 3 regular beds which are approximately queen-sized (in one of the rooms, the bed is a little bigger). In one of the "private" rooms, there is a non-movable partition with a pull-out couch similar to the one upstairs. There is only one ~ very ~ small chest of drawers, but lots of hanger space. Rode the #8 tram connecting to FR1/FM1 at Roma Trastevere station to Fiumicino on the way out. Kind of a shlep. 15 minute walk over cobblestones from apartment to Trastevere/Mastai. 20E for us one-way. Allow approx. 1 hour.
Owner response:Dear John thank you for your reviuw. I appreciated your suggestions and I'll solve these little problems as soon as possible. I am very happy that you had a wonderful time in Rome. Enjoy your time. Luigi

The apartment in Trastavere was perfect for our 3 day visit to Rome. Great location - within walking to everything - or we would hop on the trolley. Restaurants in the area were perfect. Luigi was a very accomodating host. Set us up with a tour guide for the Vatican - what a fantastic day that was.

My husband and I spent the first 3 days of our trip in Trastevere and fell in love with it! Fabulous apartment in a beautiful and lively part of the city, all sites within reasonable reach, and lots and lots of interesting shops bars and restaurants nearby. Luigi and Anna Claudia were friendly and helpful
Owner response:Dear James thank you very much for choosing my apartment. I hope to see you soon in Rome again. Enjoy your time. Ciao Luigi

The Garibaldi Apartment is really impressive, everything is clean, new and well kept. The beds were comfortable and clean. I rented it for 8 of us students and they were all really impressed when they saw it. Giacomo, the owner is extra-friendly, helpful, speaks good english which really helped with communication and was ready to help us anytime during our stay. He recommended to us sites we should visit, food places and special bakeries which we would have never known without him. The location of the apartment is very convenient, in the hearth of Trastevere. The only thing that showed slight difficulty was having one bathroom for the 8 of us but it worked out fine. Overall, we were really happy with the place and would definitely use it again.
Owner response:Dear Wendy, really thank you for choosing my apartment. I hope to see you soon again in Rome. Buon Natale. Luigi

Location and neighbourhood are top. Campo de Fiori and Piazza Navona are within 10-15 min walking distance (crossing the Ponte Sisto). Although the Via Garibaldi is situated on the westside of Trastevere you walk in 5 minutes towards the heart of the neighbourhood, the Piazza’s San Egido and Santa Maria Maggiore. About 25 restaurants you will find between these Piazza’s and the apartment. Isole di Sicilia (near the apartment) is one of the best of them. Three courses, contorni and a bottle of good wine for 90 euro. On the nearby Via della Scala (nr. 8) we found the down to earth (in this somewhat artistic/alternative area) “ristorante-pizzeria La Scaletta”. Not yet mentioned in any restaurant guide. Good taste and large portions and very cheap. The scaloppine al limone for just 6 euro and it was the best The appartment was clean, spacious enough with two bedrooms with very comfortable beds. The kitchen and fridge were very OK. Internet and TV made us extra happy. Mr Luigi was very helpful. We really enjoyed the neighborhood and couldn't wait to return after a day of touring the other historic sites. We were enchanted with the apartment decor. Thank you for easing us in to the Italian experience.

We stayed at Garibaldi house for 3 days . This was our first trip to Italy ! Luigi met us at the apartment, told us all about the local area and drove us around to get us oriented. He even helped me find an electronics store to buy an adapter! The apartment was very clean and wonderfully decorated. All touristic points, Vatican is also a very easy walk also (about 10-15 minutes). We were enchanted with the apartment decor . Thank you for easing us in to the Italian experience. If we ever go back to Rome, we will not hesitate to stay here again!
Owner response:Thank you Nancy. I hope to see you soon in Rome again. Ciao Luigi

Indeed this apartment is conveniently located. Walk times to the major sights are about 20 minutes (Vatican, Forum, Colosseum etc.) Each day we left for a different destination, on foot, and were happy not to need to take transit for most places. The neighbourhood is charming, walkable, interesting and filled with strolling locals that adds to a great atmosphere. However, be aware that not all is perfect and, depending on your standards, you may wish to reconsider staying. Let me explain. The kitchen is adequate. We rent apartments because we like to cook, but this one was not always easy to use. The sink faucet sprays you in the eye due to a faulty filter. No dish towel or cloth was provided, so we had to use a small hand towel we brought along. The dishwasher works, but the top rack is broken so it was difficult to load properly without breaking glassware. Lighting the cooktop was hit and miss. Only because we had an Italian along did we learn how to coax some burners to life. Be aware that the shower has inadequate pressure and that the hot water is set very low. I never once shaved with hot water even after leaving the water to run for 10 minutes. I know that hot water is heated as needed in Italy, but in a Venice apartment I stayed in just after Rome, we had no such problems at all. It appears that the owner, Luigi, has set it this way to save money, but since I paid a good price to stay I believe we deserved adequate water. The washing machine was broken during our visit. We had our Italian guest call the agent several times and explain but we were told, twice, that someone would come to fix it. No one came and we never had the chance to wash our clothes. Lucky for us the Venice apartment washer worked flawlessly on our arrival and we could finally get our dirty clothes clean! Be aware that bedrooms are in a basement. There is a faint mildewy smell, even when the ac is running. Because the bedrooms are there, it is quieter and darker. I prefer this as big cities can be noisy, but you may not feel the same. BTW, the TV down there did not work. The Internet is as advertised and fast. Wifi less so. Lastly, if you are older, be aware that there is no dining table, only a coffee table and backless stools and a couch. After a long day walking, I would prefer to sit at a proper table and rest my back! If you have a spirit of adventure, want a good location and can endure the problems I mention then go ahead and rent. Be warned, it's not perfect!
Owner response:Dear Bred first of all thank you for choosing my apartment. Thank you for pointing out the little things that do not work well in my apartment (the sink faucet spry, no dish towel). These were immediately resolved. I'm sorry that we failed to send a technician to repair the washing machine for your holiday time, but unfortunately it happened in the days of 2 November commemoration and technicians does’nt work in that time. I would say that the temperature of the shower is controlled by the boiler and that this does not affect consumption. I did not adjust the temperature down to spending less ... .. I never thought it. Probably some previous customer settled in this way the shower. I am sorry that in your opinion of me, you just said that I set in low way the hot water to save money and you did not say that I have responded promptly to your e-mail (many) where you asked assistance and information, also ….. you had assistance for your early access to the apartment. I wanted to tell you again that I called the technician to repair the dishwasher and it was not broken but just the basket was upside down. You're right when you say that my apartment is not perfect. ? I hope that these small problems do not have ruined your stay in Rome. Enjoy your time. Luigi

The flat had everything we needed and more. Mr Luigi was so nice and helpful and the flat was very clean - the bathroom and kitchen were spotless. This flat is unbeatable as a base for seeing Rome in a week. This apartment is in the very hearth of Trastevere. We mainly ate locally - the food was good, prices the same as at home and the atmosphere great. Again we read Luigi's advice - but be warned at one local restaurant we went to no-one spoke English and they ended up taking us into the kitchen and showing us the raw food so we could pick! That was a really good night. Sunday market is a must - if you fancy walking in to Rome just walk through the market heading in the right direction! The market "Porta Portese" is absolutely massive. The small local shops just a stone's throw from the flat sell lovely fresh bread every morning. Again, we followed Luigi's instructions for that. The wi-fi was a godsend as you can keep in touch with family etc. I would certainly recommend this flat to anyone visiting Rome as it was just such an ideal base and the atmosphere of the area is brill. Go and enjoy! We had a fabulous time.
Owner response:Dear Jeremy, thank you very much. I hope to see you again ...soon in Rome. Ciao Luigi

We stayed at the apartment a few days ago. Everything was very nice and as advertised. I stayed in Luigi's Even though Luigi has faithfully entered the comments I left in her guest book, I wanted to reiterate in my own hand on VRBO what a positive experience I had. The apartment is very comfortable, with a welcoming beds and a good hot shower. The location is absolutely fantastic; My estimates for walking times to some of the nearby sites are about 15 minutes to The Vatican, 5 minutes to Campo de Fiori, 10 minutes to Piazza Navona, and 15 minutes to the Pantheon. And not only is Via garibaldi a lovely street, but everything you could possibly need is nearby. Luigi herself is an intelligent, organized, gracious, and cultured host. I would urge anyone staying with him to look at the suggestion sheets she thoughtfully provides her guests, and to ask her any questions you might have, for she is a valuable resource. I very much look forward to staying with again. Luigi was very accomodating and was able to set up a car service to take us to the airport on our last day.

Luigi, thank you for helping to make our stay in Rome so memorable. The apartment is in a wonderful location and the neighborhood is fantastic with good restaurants (Osteria del Belli is fabulous). Luigi was very helpful and recommended several opportunities. It was a great experience and gave us the feel we lived there not simply visited. The apartment was clean and confortable. I just came home from a 3 days stay in Rome. This lovely apartment on Via Garibaldi was the perfect place to experience Rome away from the intense touristy stuff and yet VERY convenient to everything. The apartment itself was a welcome and comfortable retreat to come home to after a day out. I fixed many meals. She made so much of Rome easier to experience. 3 days is a short time and I can say without hesitation that the apartment was the perfect place to have this adventure.
Owner response:I'm very happy for you. I hope to see you again in Rome ....soon. Ciao Luigi

We stayed in this apartment for three nights. The location was absolutely wonderful!!! Unfortunately, the apartment was dirty. The floors were filthy and the water pressure in the shower was horrible! Although the property description talks about the air circulation, it was very poor in the basement where the bedrooms are, and thus sleeping was not always very comfortable. I do not think anyone in our group would stay at this property again.
Owner response:Dear Beth, I feel sorry for the problem of cleaning. I replaced the cleaner few days ago because I had other sames cleaning problems with other customers. Now the new cleaner is very good and clean in detail throughout the apartment. With regard to the ventilation system (air con) in fact this system has had a technical problem in the days of your stay. I apologize for this but now the system is back to work perfectly. I am very happy that you think the location is fantastic and I hope that these small problems do you have disturbed your holiday. Ciao Luigi

Filthy dirty. Mould everywhere - wall, floor, pillows, blankets. Anna met us to let us in, gave us the key and took our money. Never to be seen or heard from again. The smell was beyond description. After 5 minutes we all started to get headaches. Two of the beds were completely inappropriate. One was a folding cot that was broken at both joints, and one bed was two wooden pallets (the kind in lumber yards used to stack wood and bricks on) on the floor with a small mattress completely covered with a blanket, I would imagine so that at first glance you couldn't tell what it was. Two beds only had a blanket on them, no sheets or pillow. In the pictures you see two windows in the basement bedrooms with curtains. Once you open the curtain to see outside you see the truth. One window well has a bunch of duct work in it, closed off on the top by a screwed shut metal grate. The other window is concreted shut, you can't even see daylight. This place is a fire trap. If there were ever a fire here, everyone would die. No one would know who perished, because they never even looked at your passports, never mind knew the names of the people staying here!!! We tried calling, emailing and texting both Luigi and Anna numerous times at numerous numbers and email addresses. There was no response. Someone recommended that I go to the police. I sent Luigi one last email to tell him that if he didn't respond by the end of the day that I was going to lodge a complaint. Amazingly enough I got an email response. He wanted to know if he should send someone over with new bedding or if I would like my money back. Pretty easy decision. He did however keep a hefty deposit - I guess for all the trouble that it was to get back to us. He didn't even personally meet us to give us our money back, he sent someone to do it for him. If I could have picked 0 out of 5 for this one I definitely would have, but the lowest rating is a 1 and that is too much in my opinion. In all of our travels, all over the world, this has been the biggest disappointment. STEER CLEAR OF THIS ONE - ANYTHING ELSE WILL BE BETTER!!!!!!!
Owner response: First of all I apologize for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, in the days immediately preceding the arrival of the customers there have been many renovations works and unfortunately broke the machine that normally make air purification conditioning system untill 16 times per hour. and this has led to all problems. Unfortunately we did not realize this at the time that customers arrived otherwise I would have found a new place for them. I received an e-mail from the customer who told me the problem. Here it is below her e-mail sent on 09 settembre 2011 11:51 Hi Luigi and Anna I would kindly ask you to please call, email or text me as soon as possible. We are not happy with the apartment. It is not what we were expecting. There is mould everywhere, on the walls, floor, pillows, blankets. Two of the beds for the children were not acceptable. The fumes in the apartment gave us all headaches. We would like to get our money back please. If you do not respond today sometime we are going to lodge a complaint. Thank you for your attention to this. Brad & Linda I immediately sent a technician to verify the problem and it was immediately solved. At that time I sent an e-mail apologizing and offering the customer a solution or in alternative refund of all money. Here's the email Hi Brad, we actually had a problem with the air system and for this reason the sheets, pillows may have taken a bad smell. Now the problem with the air cleaning machine is resolved but probably need to change the sheet and pillow.. If you want I can send the cleanser to make a change of sheets and pillows or can I return your money (680 euros). I apologize for that. I'm waiting your news. Regards luigi The customers have accepted my proposal and have responded with the following e-mail: Thank you very much, we really appreciate your response. We have made other arrangements for the next couple of nights, so we would really appreciate to get the 680 euros back. When and where would you like to meet to exchange the money and keys? Brad I live far away from the apartment and for doing things as quickly as possible I sent my friend to return the money, so............. THE WHOLE PROBLEM IS STARTED on 09 settembre 2011 at 12:02 AND HAVE BEEN SOLVED on 09 settembre 2011 18.00 IN LASS OF 6 HOURS Again, I feel sorry for the inconvenience caused, more than that I do not know what I could do. My partner and I spent 3 nights in the Garibaldi House . We were thrilled with these accommodations, and with the landlord, Luigi . We arrived at 8 p.m. on the first night, and Anna was there to get us settled in. Not many landlords would do that. We enjoyed the space, 2 bedrooms, living room, kichen, etc. here. With jet lag, you sometimes have different sleeping patterns from your partner so one could be up and moving around, while the other slept. Next, we loved the convenience of the neighborhood, so close to the Vatican--20 minutes walk-- and all major touristic point of historical canter and buses right outside our door. If we return to Rome (we will, we tossed three coins in the Trevi Fountain), we will most definitely stay here.

We stayed here from in Garibaldi House in Trastevere, and couldn't have asked for a better place. The apartment was clean, in a great location and had everything we needed. It was spacious, well decorated, and the beds and couches were great after a long day of walking through Rome. We felt at home within a few hours of being there. Plus, there was satellite TV (with some channels in English!) . All in all, the apartment really was true to the pictures and descriptions online. So, rest assured you'll get what you're expecting. As an additional perk, the apartment location really has the best of both worlds -- it's close enough to the city center but not overrun by tourists and tourist traps. The neighborhood was safe and there were plenty of shops within walking distance. We were only a few blocks from an affordable grocery store. Just be aware that there may not be as many English speakers in Trastevere as there are in the historic center. But, you're in Italy, so it's all part of the experience. I would definitely recommend the apartment to friends and will stay here again when we're lucky enough to go back to Rome. It was great for my wife an I, who are in our 20s, and my parents. So, no matter who you are, you really can't go wrong.

Luigi, We had a fantastic stay in Rome. The location of your apartment could not be better, we pretty much walked to all the major attractions. The apartment is decent, though one bathroom for larger groups is a challange. Things that would make the stay for your future guests more comfortable would be new mattresses and pillows. Also AC upstairs, at times it was too hot (the light bulbs also give off a lot of heat). But overall we were very pleased and would recommend your place. Best of luck and thank you for your hospitality.

We just returned from a 3 day stay at the Garibaldi House. My husband and my 16 year old son had a wonderful time! Luigi arranged for a taxi to pick us up at the airport which was great. Once we arrived at the apartment they were there to meet us and show us around to include taking us in their car for a drive around the area so they could point out where the market was, the local restuarants etc. The apartment itself is in a quiet area yet within walking distance of restaurants, markets, cafes, bakeries, etc. Everything was clean and neat. The airconditioning was great and the washing machine came in very handy. Luigi e Anna were also very helpful in my planning. Answering any question i might have concerning Rome, or airlines, trains, etc. I highly recommend this property and would stay here again in a heartbeat.

The apartment is exceptionally clean and well equipped, with everything that you will require for your stay provided. It is spacious and has the feel of a real Italian home [which it was ] rather than a holiday apartment. Trestevare station is just a few minutes walk away, which has direct links to the airport and the Vatican, and easy connection to the Metro and other stations. Buses and trams also stop outside the station, making anywhere in Rome easy to get to at a very low cost [1 Euro for any journey ] The neighbourhood has restaurants, shops and cafes within walking distance, as well as a daily market . I would recommend this apartment to anyone wishing to visit this beautiful City.

I felt somewhat deceived when I arrived. The photos show curtained windows in 2 bedrooms. However, both bedrooms are in the basement, and the "window" leads to a ventilation shaft. All beds are in the basement except the futon in the living room, and there is no emergency exit. There is a dampness problem in the apartment, mildew was present in several places. There was no internet available, despite it being advertised. We went to Bar de Malva for espresso during the day and free internet daily. Also, we were given only 2 keys for a large group, however, you could not lock the door from the inside without a key. So, in a fire, you cannot exit without the key (remember the door is the only exit). We had to leave the 2nd key with our teenager who slept late while the rest of us had to share the one key. This inhibited our freedom to explore the city in smaller groups and complicated things more than neccessary, since we had no cell phones. There is a washer but no dryer, only a rack. Our towels did not dry out due to moisture issues and my husband made the mistake of running some wash before we realized there was no dryer. We had to hang the clothes right in front of the entrance door (the only source of air). Positives: The agent was at the apartment when we arrived, despite our being a little late. It was clean. The kitchen and living room worked nicely for our group. The location was great, as advertised-close to the river, walking distance to many things, beautiful basilica-Santa Maria de Trastevere. Lots going on at night. Fun to walk around. From the airport we took the local train to Trastevere station and it was only 10E cab to the apt. Sadly, my son took the train (leonardo express?) to Termini station when he arrived and paid 40E for a cab. Other tourists have been victimized by the greedy cab drivers in Termini also. Buy a map at the airport if you want to use public transportation. There a lots of buses near by but you might have trouble figuring things out without the reference. This place is good for a large group of physically fit people, trying to save money, who don't need a lot of privacy while in bed and who can tolerate dampness.

Just back from a wonderful romantic weekend in Rome. Was really happy with the apartment. It's right in the centre of the city. The apartment is big and sweet with a kitchen with a hob with 4 rings, sink and all utensils, just what you need, oven . It is nicely decorated clean and warm. Luigi who greated us was really nice and gave us good tips on visiting Rome on our map. I would definitely recommend this location. We had the most amazing weekend. A big thankyou to Luigi. Merci! I'm giving this apartment an 8 as it's great value for what you get. Margaret da France, febbraio 2010.

The mini-supermarket its a minute away , the apartment has a good kitchen to prepare any food you want and with a freezer too. The owner we really enjoyed out stay in the apartment. Wonderful location, very central. The apartment was very clean and had everything we expected. Perfect stay!! if we go back to Rome one day it will certainly be in the same apartment. Luigi was extremely helpful in providing information for our stay in Rome. The “Luigi’s suggestions” are very precious I would definitely recommend this apartment to others. "Thank you Luigi!!!!" We found the apartment to be ideally located and comfortable for the three of us (all adults). Every consideration was given to ensure that our stay was pleasant and we were impressed with the friendly and efficient reception on our arrival. Both the owner and his agent were most helpful. We would be happy to return to Garibaldi apartment when next we are in Rome and recommend this apartment as a base for exploring Rome. Kathleen da Australia, ottobre 2009.

We stayed in the apartment for 3 nights in May - two grown ups three kids. The apartment was spotless and the location was great and in walking distance to the Pantheon, the Spanish Steps and even the Colosseum. Taxi to the Vatican was 5 Euros. Lots of stores in the alley to buy wine, cheese, bread and fruit. Blu Ice gelato across the street was one of the best we tried. The booking and communication went without a hitch. The owner made sure we had an English speaking representative who checked us in. (Thank you, Anna) We recommend our big apartment In Via Garibaldi to anybody who wants to be in the middle of the (Rome) action : ) We want to go back!

It was a very nice stay in this apartment. Good service, and the information, was available when we needed it. No complains from here, and I will absolutely recommend it to everyone I know.
