We love this neighborhood -- we straddle two of the best neighborhoods in all of the East Bay: Elmwood and Rockridge. Just a 5-minute stroll to College Ave. brings you to an amazing array of shops, world-class restaurants, bakeries and chocolateries. The local movie theater on College offers first-run films and great popcorn with real butter. Enjoy browsing at three independent bookstores within easy walking.
Berkeley is centrally located to all the best California has to offer: culturally and in the outdoors. East Bay Regional Parks are among the most extensive in the country and you can be there in 5 minutes. San Francisco is just 8 miles by car or BART. Bicycling is safe among this well-trained population of drivers. Spectacular beaches are less than an hour drive. If you haven't experienced the beaches of Northern California, you are missing some of the most beautiful and dramatic coastline in the world. Yosemite is just a 4-hour easy drive, Monterey and Carmel under 2 hours, Napa Valley and wine country under an hour.
We can see San Francisco from the top at the posh Carnelian Room, explore the byways of Berkeley on foot, or eat with our fingers at an Ethiopian restaurant all within minutes walking or driving.
This home was built in 1910 when people were moving out of San Francisco after the '06 earthquake. We couldn't resist the redwood paneling, hardwood floors and coved ceilings. We are central to all kinds of public transportation here, but there is easy freeway access, too. This neighborhood is walkable -- in the European style -- even at night. The combination of old world charm with current day amenities makes this location perfect.
Unique benefits of this neighborhood include the people, the shops and the beauty. A quiet, friendly neighborhood, you will be entirely anonymous or welcomed by all as you choose. Learning to stroll to the boutique groceries nearby will make you wonder if perhaps you wouldn't like to live here. Produce stores abound with locally grown, and specialty shops are too numerous to count. Safeway is there as a backup, but you'll discover the world of the foodie quickly.
The garden is yours to enjoy. Pick your own fresh herbs, apricots, plums or blueberries. BBQ with your friends or simply sun yourself in the deck lounges or hammock.
Off-street parking is worry-free, washer/dryer make it all very easy.
Fluffy down pillows or comforters, or hypo-allergenic alternatives are for you to choose. Claw-foot tub with hand and overhead shower will entice you.
This area is renown for labyrinths, and we can show you how to find the ones that are not on any map.
