This home was built in 1910 when people were moving out of San Francisco after the '06 earthquake. We couldn't resist the redwood paneling, hardwood floors and coved ceilings. The combination of old world charm with current day amenities makes this location perfect.

Easy walking distance, great for meat and groceries, but better produce at Berkeley Bowl. (see map)
Wonderful little park for the very young. Local residents generously leave the toys out for all to use. Easy walking distance.
Very easy walking distance. Great for playing with small ones.
This is good for somewhat older kids -- 3 - 8 range. Swings and other modest attractions.
Best Bakery in Berkeley or Oakland. The morning buns are to die for, baquettes and other breads are wonderful, and if you crave an eclair, they have small sized that are just enough.
The best Ethiopian in Berkeley or Oakland. Best ambiance, as well. This is a truly Berkeley experience. Be ready to eat with your fingers -- right hand only! Delicious!
The quintessential Berkeley produce/grocery store. By far the best produce...and largest selection You will see produce here you've never heard of. Well worth the difficult parking.
Rialto Elmwood is a local theatre playing first run films. When's the last time you walked to the movies? Real butter on the popcorn.
Another Berkeley institution: great, old fashioned doughnuts. None of that Krispy Kream here -- that's So. Cal.
By far and away the best ice cream you will ever have. Seasonal and local flavors, always accompanied by the classics.
Market Hall is a fabulous shopping experience for the foodie. Olivetto's is astronomically good food with prices to match.
Great food...won't break the bank, but not inexpensive. Warning: you will need reservations on week nights -- yes, even on Tuesdays.
You will just hear the church bells at our flat...a lovely sound on a quiet Sunday afternoon.
A mere 3 minutes from your driveway parking at home.vacation
This is the Chinatown that formed after San Francisco's 1906 earthquake. The people here speak mostly Cantonese. Great dim-sum, lots of fun stores, a place where real people live.
Tin's Tea House -- or as it's known now, Gourmet Delight -- is a down-home restaurant where the locals go for fabulous dim sum. This is the real deal. On a Sunday morning, get there early because every resident of Chinatown seems to converge on this great place. 701 Webster @ 7th st. (510) 832-7661

This is a wonderful park with paths for walking, skating or slow biking, and THE BEST wind for kite flying. There is usually a panel truck selling kites of all kinds complete with good advice. The kite flying festival takes place here every July. For details visit highlinekites.com.
