We had heard great things about McCloud from some friends and wanted to try something different than Lake Tahoe. The drive was less than 5 hours and when we arrived late, Toad Hollow was waiting with lights bright and warm. The house is perfect for our 3 kids and lab, Gizmo; clean, well appointed and just plain cute. Every morning, my husband and I walked into town and had breakfast at the White Mountain Cafe, before the kids were awake - perfect! Best of all, we were on the ski slopes in 15 minutes with no traffic or parking hassles - during Ski Week! This is a true gem. Thanks Lindy - we'll be back!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: I was just sure that you would fall in love with the area, and I'm so glad that you did! Your summer experience will be completely different. Be sure to ask me about how to get to some of the beautiful little mountain lakes, and some of our favorite hiking trails. We look forward to sharing more of our little piece of heaven.

This was our family’s first time visiting the Mt. Shasta area. Toad Hollow was the perfect rental for us! It is homey, bright and inviting. Our kids had a blast playing in the snowy winter wonderland in the front and back yards! The owners have done a great job renovating the house – the perfect balance of charm and comfort. We also appreciated the short 10 minute drive to Mt.Shasta Ski Park. We will definitely be back to explore the area more!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you very much. The Shasta Cascade Region is definitely one of California's little hidden gems. We look forward to having you and your family back to discover even more about the area. ~Lindy

Our two families stayed here to enjoy skiing on Mt. Shasta. We arrived to such a pretty scene at Toad Hollow with cheerfully lit Christmas Tree and other lights which all shone on the porch surrounded by snow. Inside we were greeted by a toasty warm cozy house and wine! All was clean and welcoming and suited all our needs. In between the snowy clouds, Mt. Shasta would rear its majestic head in the view from our porch. Lindy the owner could not have been more helpful, caring or efficient and truly did more than might be expected. Judy who cleans was amazingly kind and timely with the cleaning. We would recommend this home to anyone, winter or summer. In the winter with snow it's just adorable, as is McCloud when it's all white! We dined at the newly opened restaurant in the McCloud Hotel and the hostess and food were just great. Skiing/snowboarding at Mt. Shasta is easy and reasonably priced - we had a great fun on our third time at these slopes.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you so much! We hope that you will have a chance to enjoy the area during one of the other beautiful seasons. ~ Lindy

We loved our time at the house and the owners were very helpful. We also had local help there. The house is nice and warm and additional heaters were provided to room that didn't have direct heat. The single beds almost too comfortable for my back. 3 Showers were enough because we had 10 people over. Thank you for making it possible for us to have such a joyous time together in family. My family came from another country and badly wanted to see snow. We had plenty of that and a great white christmas...Owner response: We are so happy that your time in McCloud went so well. We would love to have you back again, anytime. I can't promise that amount of snow again, but can assure you that the Shasta Cascade Region is always beautiful. Happy New Year!

This sparkling clean vintage home is decorated and refurbished with the most luxurious beds and appliances, and the most tasteful decor from mid-century times. You have to go experience this step back in time---it's very satisfying to one's soul. The Fay Family has made this home a labor of love to share with others, and the communication with Lindy Fay was just amazing....I felt like she was my friend from the first phone call. As we arrived, we found a bottle of wine awaiting us and home-made cookies were delivered in the hour by a local gentleman who also brought organic buffalo treats for our dog, Rhonda. What a nice touch! From the Mountains to the Waterfalls to the Townsfolk---Friendly and Helpful and Welcoming....this quaint li'l town with Water fresh from the mountain...untouched by any chemicals....has so many wonderful places to see. The quaint historical Mercantile with an Old-Fashioned Candy Store, with original Old-Fashioned Wooden Sidewalks.....what an experience. So many old buildings from the early days when this town was a booming lumber mill...you don't see these anymore. We toured a few, and were blown away. The three seperate waterfalls that await---just beautiful. We even had one woman, as we stopped and asked directions, invite us to "Cow Camp" to come eat with them and swim in one "giant waterhole" with everyone---an event that didn't happen as we had to leave town, but next time, we will go find that waterhole! So, I hope I can convince you that....... You'll love Toad Hollow!!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, people with disabilities, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you Robin! We are so happy that you and your family had such a great time, and that you were able to experience both the charm and the beauty of the area. We would be honored to have you back any time.

We had a wonderful stay in heaven...peaceful, clean, comfy, perfect! This house is in an excellent location, right downtown McCloud with a beautiful view of Mt. Shasta right out the door. The house is amazingly big and is in top shape. The property manager not only stopped by on the first day to answer questions, offer tourist help but a plateful of yummy cookies baked by his wife. Upon reserving, I spoke with the lovely lady owner who was warm and bubbly offering suggestions of places to visit surely conveying her love for the area. With all there is to do in the area, we drove to Burney Falls (40 mins) and had a picnic. Otherwise, relaxing in the house was also our favorite thing to do.Did you find this review helpful?
