We had heard great things about McCloud from some friends and wanted to try something different than Lake Tahoe. The drive was less than 5 hours and when we arrived late, Toad Hollow was waiting with lights bright and warm. The house is perfect for our 3 kids and lab, Gizmo; clean, well appointed and just plain cute. Every morning, my husband and I walked into town and had breakfast at the White Mountain Cafe, before the kids were awake - perfect! Best of all, we were on the ski slopes in 15 minutes with no traffic or parking hassles - during Ski Week! This is a true gem. Thanks Lindy - we'll be back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: I was just sure that you would fall in love with the area, and I'm so glad that you did! Your summer experience will be completely different. Be sure to ask me about how to get to some of the beautiful little mountain lakes, and some of our favorite hiking trails. We look forward to sharing more of our little piece of heaven.

This was our family’s first time visiting the Mt. Shasta area. Toad Hollow was the perfect rental for us! It is homey, bright and inviting. Our kids had a blast playing in the snowy winter wonderland in the front and back yards! The owners have done a great job renovating the house – the perfect balance of charm and comfort. We also appreciated the short 10 minute drive to Mt.Shasta Ski Park. We will definitely be back to explore the area more!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you very much. The Shasta Cascade Region is definitely one of California's little hidden gems. We look forward to having you and your family back to discover even more about the area. ~Lindy

Our two families stayed here to enjoy skiing on Mt. Shasta. We arrived to such a pretty scene at Toad Hollow with cheerfully lit Christmas Tree and other lights which all shone on the porch surrounded by snow. Inside we were greeted by a toasty warm cozy house and wine! All was clean and welcoming and suited all our needs. In between the snowy clouds, Mt. Shasta would rear its majestic head in the view from our porch. Lindy the owner could not have been more helpful, caring or efficient and truly did more than might be expected. Judy who cleans was amazingly kind and timely with the cleaning. We would recommend this home to anyone, winter or summer. In the winter with snow it's just adorable, as is McCloud when it's all white! We dined at the newly opened restaurant in the McCloud Hotel and the hostess and food were just great. Skiing/snowboarding at Mt. Shasta is easy and reasonably priced - we had a great fun on our third time at these slopes.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you so much! We hope that you will have a chance to enjoy the area during one of the other beautiful seasons. ~ Lindy

We loved our time at the house and the owners were very helpful. We also had local help there. The house is nice and warm and additional heaters were provided to room that didn't have direct heat. The single beds almost too comfortable for my back. 3 Showers were enough because we had 10 people over. Thank you for making it possible for us to have such a joyous time together in family. My family came from another country and badly wanted to see snow. We had plenty of that and a great white christmas...Owner response: We are so happy that your time in McCloud went so well. We would love to have you back again, anytime. I can't promise that amount of snow again, but can assure you that the Shasta Cascade Region is always beautiful. Happy New Year!

This sparkling clean vintage home is decorated and refurbished with the most luxurious beds and appliances, and the most tasteful decor from mid-century times. You have to go experience this step back in time---it's very satisfying to one's soul. The Fay Family has made this home a labor of love to share with others, and the communication with Lindy Fay was just amazing....I felt like she was my friend from the first phone call. As we arrived, we found a bottle of wine awaiting us and home-made cookies were delivered in the hour by a local gentleman who also brought organic buffalo treats for our dog, Rhonda. What a nice touch! From the Mountains to the Waterfalls to the Townsfolk---Friendly and Helpful and Welcoming....this quaint li'l town with Water fresh from the mountain...untouched by any chemicals....has so many wonderful places to see. The quaint historical Mercantile with an Old-Fashioned Candy Store, with original Old-Fashioned Wooden Sidewalks.....what an experience. So many old buildings from the early days when this town was a booming lumber mill...you don't see these anymore. We toured a few, and were blown away. The three seperate waterfalls that await---just beautiful. We even had one woman, as we stopped and asked directions, invite us to "Cow Camp" to come eat with them and swim in one "giant waterhole" with everyone---an event that didn't happen as we had to leave town, but next time, we will go find that waterhole! So, I hope I can convince you that....... You'll love Toad Hollow!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you Robin! We are so happy that you and your family had such a great time, and that you were able to experience both the charm and the beauty of the area. We would be honored to have you back any time.

We had a wonderful stay in heaven...peaceful, clean, comfy, perfect! This house is in an excellent location, right downtown McCloud with a beautiful view of Mt. Shasta right out the door. The house is amazingly big and is in top shape. The property manager not only stopped by on the first day to answer questions, offer tourist help but a plateful of yummy cookies baked by his wife. Upon reserving, I spoke with the lovely lady owner who was warm and bubbly offering suggestions of places to visit surely conveying her love for the area. With all there is to do in the area, we drove to Burney Falls (40 mins) and had a picnic. Otherwise, relaxing in the house was also our favorite thing to do.Did you find this review helpful? We returned this year because we enjoyed our 10 day stay last December (2010) so much. This year, unfortunately, we were not able to stay as long and opted for New Years Eve until January 3rd. The previous year it snowed off and on during our stay - this year there was almost no snow, but it didn't dampen our spirits or fun in the least. The area is beautiful, the town is within walking distance, its locals are so friendly and welcoming, and the house was as homey and inviting as always. We will be back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had the distinct pleasure of staying at Toad Hollow December 23-30, 2011. Our experience, beginning with Lindy’s friendly and astute communications, was thoroughly enjoyable and first class from top to bottom. Upon arrival we were struck with how well the home presented itself. I call it a home because it felt like our own home within twenty minutes of our arrival. The house has been beautifully restored to include modern amenities while, at the same time, retaining all of its 100 year old charm. It is very rare to find this combination so well achieved. It can’t be done better than it has been done at Toad Hollow. The feelings of warmth and hospitality felt immediately upon arrival were reinforced when the property manager, Dave, showed up to welcome us with the offer of his availability, information about the area and a delicious platter of homemade cookies made by his wife. Does it get any better than this?! It was a pleasure to wake up every morning, look at Mt. Shasta from the front porch and plan our day’s events from the many options available in the area. Our time spent hiking, sightseeing and visiting both McCloud and Mt. Shasta City was thoroughly enjoyable. The fully stocked kitchen made cooking for the holidays quite convenient. All of the sleeping quarters were very comfortable, with memory foam mattresses being an added bonus. The additional amenities such as television with full satellite service and wireless internet were also wonderful. Everything was just so easy and comfortable. I have barely been home a week and have recommended Toad Hollow to any friend who is interested in such a rental. All parties involved with the operation of this home rental have done and continue to do a truly remarkable job. Having our holiday vacation at Toad Hollow was an absolute joy. Thank you so much.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, sightseeing.

We have stayed at just about every rental in McCloud as we go annually for a family trip. This location has it all....the comforts of home with the rustic nature of the old McCloud mill town left intact. The kitchen is one of the best I have used, and we are always cooking. The beautiful claro walnut on the island is a delight to look at and the house is laid out well and is extremely charming. The beds are some of the most comfy we have ever enjoyed while in McCloud!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We really feel like we lucked out when we found Toad Hollow. The house is beautifully updated, impeccably clean and has an amazing view (the extra surprise was the tetherball in the back which was hilarious to play); we had all kinds of weather while we were in McCloud and this house was perfect for all of it. The owners are super friendly and easy to work with. I can't wait to go back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Gracious comfort, ironed sheets, antique wooden floor boards washed by sunlight streaming in through sparkling windows. Fresh soft colors of sage and mint, and heated floors in the upstairs bathroom. A fully equipped kitchen where our friends whipped up a morning quiche, and then out exploring an unspoiled area. We came looking for snow but instead found a lovely little historic town with a bake sale in progress, an old train yard and the friendliest people in little shops and stores. There is a large nearby sledding hill for kids, and even when there's no fresh snowfall it is a short drive to Mount Shasta if you want serious white stuff. In the evening we were back at Toad Hollow for laughter and wine, and then all of us cozy and warm watching a movie together. This is our second time at Toad Hollow and if you cherish a family experience in a charming and gracious setting, make it your home away from home too.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are really looking forward to reading about the great adventures of the 3rd (almost) annual trip to McCloud. Have a wonderful time! ~Lindy

My family and I stayed at Toad Hollow and we thouroughly enjoyed our stay. We felt so at home and plan on returning this spring or summer to take advantage of the fishing and hiking. Winter activities drew us in and we left having lots of that. The views while playing in the snow were incredible. The house was so welcoming and at the end of the day we were so happy returning to Toad Hollow. Lots of room for everyone and wonderful fun family memories were made. We will return.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This is an excellent vacation home! Modern interior, spotless, great kitchen, the beds are extreamly high quality and the bathrooms will pamper you. Located in the village of McCloud this house is a true Northern California gettaway. On our arrival we were welomed by a plate of homemake cookies and fine chocolates in the bedrooms. Nice touch. This house has warmth and personality. Cozy living room with connected dinning room. Great view of Mt. Shasta from the front porch. What a neet experience. In the middle of summer, you walk out on the front porch and see the snow capped Shasta mountains. We had family from Sweden, South Carolina and Northern California all meeting up at Toad Hollow for a wonderful week of family fellowship. Lindy and Dan have made it a point to make their home as welcoming and comfortable as possible. Everyone in our group felt totally at home and relaxed. We also found that Toad Hollow was ideally located to all of the sites we wanted to do and see while we were there.Thank you Lindy and Dan for a great week.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Toad Hollow was even more than we had hoped for. There was plenty of room for all four couples and the dog. The home was comfortable, homey, historical, well maintained, clean and well stocked. We used the outdoor grill every night, eating dinner outside in the fresh mountain air. After four days of fishing, wandering around the local shops, exploring the lava tube caves, waterfalls, and mountain lakes, then ending our day by relaxing on the porch, we left feeling relaxed, and refreshed. We had never visited McCloud before, but we instantly felt at home and are now planning our next trip. Thank you for making this a memorable vacation with great friends.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
