I've had the pleasure of staying at this house a few times, and each time has been better than the last! Located on a quiet street on the canal with a private backyard, this house is kept super clean and has everything you need for a relaxing and fun-filled time. Rick does a great job of making you feel at home in this rental - the bedrooms are comfortable, the kitchen is a great space to cook in. There are so many beautiful plants in the yard that you really feel like you're on a tropical getaway. I have spent many evenings sipping mojitos while rocking on the porch, watching the dogs play in the yard. You're so close to Key West, you can spend the day there, watch the sunset at Mallory Square and head back to Summerland Key for dinner and a relaxing evening. There are some great restaurants in the area, and you can enjoy fishing in the canal in the backyard. You can also head north of Summerland and check out the Big Pine Flea Market where you will find everything you have never known you ever needed! If you are into wildlife, you'll love the Keys. You'll see iguanas in the backyard and tons of colorful, tropical fish if you snorkel. Also check out the Key Deer which are indigenous to the Florida Keys and congregate in certain spots at dusk. There's something for everyone here - adventure, relaxation, fishing, snorkeling, great food. I'd highly recommend this vacation rental to anyone wanting to visit Key West but stay somewhere away from the hustle and bustle, or someone wanting a getaway from city life. This will continue to be my go-to vacation spot for getting out of NYC! I can't wait to plan my next visit!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Rick's beautiful home was just what we all needed, peaceful and not far from restaurants and night life. Was wonderful getting up and sitting on the veranda with our coffee, and in the afternoon with our cocktails. We loved the gourmet kitchen, as we did do some cooking. Rode bikes all through the neighborhood, beautiful area. We also ventured down to Key West and enjoyed all the great shops, restaurants and bars. The home is well kept and we made it a must to clean up afterwards. Thank you Rick for sharing your great home.Recommended for: Girls getaway.

This shoert vacation was a real game changer. Beautiful, "keyes" style setting, large wrap-arround porch looking over to the canal, quiet and private, it was all we needed for a few days getaway. Short drive to the Key West nightlife, and yet so quiet and peaceful, you can rent a kayak for a few days and go from the house to explore the lush backwaters of the lower keyes. Not to mention that i caught a 2 feet barracuda on my first cast in the canal behind the house....Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: It makes me happy to see my guests enjoy this beautiful setting and relax keys style...its so comfortable and stress free... Capt. Rick

We stayed a week at this waterfront Key West style home on Summerland Key. It was pristine clean and the water in the back yard canal was too. The accommodations were roomy and the beds, pillows and bedding were comfortable and sumptious. We fished daily and prepared our meals in the gourmet kitchen and outside on the gas grill and spent some memorable evenings under the stars with coctails on the wraparound deck. The owner, Rick, is a Key West resident who is more than happy to recommend local restaurants and day trip adventures for his guests. The only problem that we had is that we never wanted to leave but our week ended and we had to comfort ourselves with the fact that we are planning to book another week in August.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: You stayed at the perfect time, the weather was ideal, I glad you liked all the new bedding and feather pillows, looking forward to your return in August, and anytime you need anything esle just give me a holler. Capt. Rick

Came to the Florida Keys on a whim, not knowing much about the area nor having any set plans. We found this place by "exploring" a lovely neighborhood, called the # on the sign and the owner, Rick actually answered! So glad we stayed. It was nicely appointed, clean, very comfortable and had all the amenities that our family wanted. Rick made sure to let us know about local favorite spots and activities that we could enjoy. My favorites were still the kitchen (gourmet) and the porch overlooking the canal. I enjoyed preparing local fresh fish from the fish market he told us about and LOVED my early morning coffee on the porch overlooking the canal. There are many gorgeous coconut palms on the property. The kids liked fishing out the front door – I liked being able to see them and Dotty, our dog easily. Bottom line – We all got a relaxing, no hassle week to spend quality time with each other. We played, ate and conversed. Something that just doesn’t seem to happen if one is downtown on Duval St. Just what we need to refresh our mind and bodies...Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: You are exactly right, that's what the keys and my home are all about, just relaxing with and enjoying good healthy family time together. I'm so glad you had a wonderful time...and you are welcome back anytime. Rick

House is in a great location, easy ocean access, nice neighborhood. The first thing I would like to comment on about this house is the fact that it is listed as a 3 bedroom home. It does have 3 bedrooms, however, one of the bedrooms is only accessible by going outside downstairs and has no adjoining bathroom. So if you have young children it is not really ideal. The downstairs bedroom also does not look anything like the picture provided, it was dark and very musty and I would not want to be the person picked to occupy that room. The rest of the house was very comfortable, and nicely decorated, although it did give the feeling of needing some upkeep, for example there were nails hanging on the walls where pictures had been removed. The master bedrrom was nice and the bed was O.K. except for the fact it seemed to be precariously balancing on cinderblocks. There was no information on trash pick up days or internet password, it would be nice if there was an instruction book for guests to look through when they arrive. The game area downstairs consisted of a dartboard with one dart, and no seating except two barstools and a very dingy old table. The picture of the kayaks shows 3 of them, upon our arrival there was 1. This property has excellent potential if the owner puts a bit of time, effort, and a bit of money. Upon booking I would ask the owner if these issues have been resolved. All and all we made it a good trip.....Recommended for: Adventure seekers, pet owners.
Owner response: Jenna, I really glad you liked your vacation to my beautiful Summerland Key Home, you must have forgotten all the phone calls we discussed the property in detail especially the fact that the down stairs bedroom was just a bedroom and no bath. I informed you before you sent a deposit all the details regarding the intire property. The master bed was in perfect condition before you checked in and the new guests just love everything about the property. The bedroom downstairs looks just like the bedroom itself, I'm not sure what to say, I've been renting this home for over 10 years and never had a dissatisfied tenant, sometimes peoples standards are a bit higher than expected. When you called me I gave you all the info you requested regarding trash pick up and even agreed to get enhanced cable programing for you. the internet password was right were I told you on the desk...I'm glad you finally found it. I never clamed to have some sort of fantastic game room, and I'm sorry someone lost the other darts. What I don't understand is when I called you to come and guide you through all your concerns you never called me back to set a time. As I said I've never had anyone not be extremely content at my beautiful home. Thanks Rick

I have to admit that we had a very good visit for the month of February, 2012. However, much of the sucess of the visit was due to my own hard work and pretty much constant contact with Rick, the owner. The place itself is great, with the exception that we constantantly had to make sure the master bedroom bed was secured, as the frame was a little out of kilter. When we arrived, there was no information about how to set up our wifi, how to unlock the kayak, when they collected garbage, etc. So, I called Rick, and he was a little helpful, but not a lot. Over the course of our visit, I changed outside lightbulbs, removed SEVERAL fallen palm fronds, and located a kayak paddle that Rick had told me was stolen. I have suggested to Rick that he get a good property manager who would deal with these issues and make his place one of the PREMIERE rental spots in the Keys. I would let all the issues drift away as I sat out on the second-floor veranda sipping a glass of wine among the swaying palms. Here, you are within a 30-40 minute drive to Key West. The Crab Shack on Rte. 1, a bike ride away, has the best crab cakes I have ever eaten and the Square Grouper, just down the road, is not shabby either. All in all, with a little work, Rick has the makings of one of the best spots in the Keys.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Frank, I'm happy you enjoyed your stay at my beautiful home, and yes all the little things like light bulbs and such have been squared away, thanks again and glad you loved my rental..!!!! Rick
