Exactly as advertised. This place is terrific - close to everything yet far enough away to make it peaceful and quiet. The 2 pet chickens are very entertaining as is Max the cat. This is the most comfortable I've ever slept in. I will return.

Stayed upstairs in the one-bedroom Escape. Exceeded my expectations. On-site host was a huge plus: very helpful, easy-going, otherwise invisible. Plenty of room, attractive and personal decor, mild and breezy, garden area to roam. Handy for activity in Kailua and for exploring both up and down the coast.

We had a nice stay in Sandra's cottage. It is a nice place to navigate from if you want to go on day trips like we did, to the volcano, to the rainforests, a waterfall, the beaches, the golf course. We ate breakfasts, packed lunches for our adventures, and ate several dinners at home. It was nice to be able to just relax in a living room and not be in a hotel in the evenings. Sandra loaned me her golf clubs for our one and only golf outing, and also gave us some avocados from her garden. Even though we had to check out by 11:00 and because our flight wasn't until late, she made a shower available to us so we could have one more day at the beach. Thanks, Sandra, for the extra thoughtfulness.

Stayed here as a solo traveller for a week in January 2012. The place is exactly as described. Quiet, well-appointed place to rest from your Big Island activities. Any place on the west coast can be easily reached and yet you are away from the crowds. You don't need air conditioning (at least not in winter) and can enjoy great sunsets from the garden.

We just returned from a FABULOUS two week stay at The Great Kona Escape. This place was perfect for us; centrally located to all the activities we wanted to do and the price was very reasonable We feel so lucky to have found this place. The unit is clean and spacious, quiet and has the most comfortable bed we've ever slept in away from home. The grounds are beautiful complete with a garden full of fresh vegetables for our daily salads and fruit right off the trees for breakfast. We can't thank Sandra enough for her warm and friendly hospitality. The great bonus was amazing massages at reasonable rates. We will definitely be returning to The Great Kona Escape. Love, love loved it.

We had a great time staying at the Great Kona Escape! It's location was ideal - close to airport and town. It was very affordable for what it is, and Sandra was kind and helpful. The bed was comfortable, and we were able to fit our son's crib in the room with us. The grounds are beautiful too.

We had the best time with Sandra at her very quiet and lush hillside property in Kona. She knows just what you need, often even before you ask. It's a great place from which to explore the island and Sandra had good recommendations for places to see and explore. The apartment is well appointed and comfortable with pleasant surroundings and very private. We would stay with her again in a heartbeat!!

Cozy atmosphere, lovely grounds, and a beautiful view of the ocean from rooms. We had a wonderful time. The owner is very nice and knows where the great non-touristy places are to go.

I stayed at The Great Kona Escape with my 11 year old son. The unit is a well appointed, large 1 bedroom apartment. The king size bed is comfortable and the living room easily sleeps a couple more people. It's clean and quiet with a lovely ocean view from the bedroom. The kitchen is small but well equipped. I was able to make all our meals myself instead of dining out. The owner, Sandy, provided beach gear for our excursions. She also brings fresh fruits grown on the property everyday. The location is perfect for getting around and exploring the island. If you're looking for a reasonable place to make your home base while visiting the Big Island, consider this spot.

Sandy, the property owner, is wonderful, friendly and knowledgeable about the Big Island. This is a peaceful, clean and well-appointed one-bedroom apartment with a futon in the living room and a small kitchen with fridge, appliances, lots of beach towels, great shower/water pressure. The bedroom has a gorgeous view, and the breeze and morning sunlight are lovely. Huge closets and shelves to unpack your clothes, and lots of great books! This is a GREAT, ideal location - only a couple miles from the main beaches and restaurants. A perfect base to explore the island. The property has great fruit trees - delicious papayas! We would absolutely stay here again - we loved it! Thank you Sandy!

Conveniently located within minutes of downtown, the airport, the Kohala resorts, Costco, etc. Superb views, especially from the pool. Well appointed suites in excellent condition. There isn't anything negative to say. Sandra makes you feel so welcome. She shares everything that you need to make your stay the best. Picnic cooler, umbrellas, beach chairs, fresh layed eggs, produce from her garden, papayas, bananaes, star fruit, lemons. She is your personal travel agent. Tells you where the best beaches, farmers markets, luaus are. Whatever you need to know she is there to answer your questions.. Sandra's rental is away from all the tourists and traffic. It is nice to hear the birds sing and see her 3 chickens walk around her lovely 1 acre yard that is perfectly manicured with Hawaiian plants. The suite is clean and has everything that you would possibly need for your holiday. If there is something you need, Sandra will get it for you. We had a wonderful holiday and would stay at The Great Kona Escape again and will recommend it to our friends. Thanks for sharing your home with us Sandra.

We stayed here for a week and had an awesome time! The place is very nice, clean, cozy - whatever you want. The location is perfect - about ten minutes from Kona downtown, and about the same distance to all the great beaches. Sandra is supernice and a great host - Mahalo again! Nothing left to say, except that we would/will come back!

We really enjoyed our stay here, the location was perfect, cooled off at night, a view of the ocean and only about 10 -15 minutes from town and the airport. Sandy was terrific and provided us with fresh fruit from the orchard, fresh eggs from the free range chickens, and some really good tips and information on the island. We loved the place finding it clean with all of the amenities that we needed to make our stay fun and confortable. On our next trip to Hawaii we plan to return.

We stayed here in January 2010. Sandra made us feel right at home with vegetables from her garden and fresh papayas. She is a wonderful source of information about the area especially regarding some of the beaches that are not so well known. It is quiet, very clean and comfortable and a great base from which to enjoy this part of the Big Island.

We LOVED our stay at The Great Kona Escape! It was exactly what we needed; quiet, clean, comfortable, and in a GREAT location. The owner has been in Kona for 30 years and knows many "secret" spots that you don't learn about from books. We will definitely be back.

We traveled to Kona for a week of diving, and had an absolutely terrific experience staying at The Great Kona Escape. Sandra was a wonderful hostess / masseuse, and the rooms were perfect for what we needed. Small functional kitchen with a fridge, plenty of space, and heaps of fresh beach towels. We're coming back to Kona in a few months, and I don't think we'll be staying anywhere else!

The owner was friendly, helpful and very easy to work with. The property is adorable. The kitchen has limited coking facilities, but I didn't go to Kona to cook. We enjoyed staying here and would recommend it to others. Our only problem is that we are used to a larger bed than a double.
Owner response:Mahalo Mom P, You were delightful guests, thank you for your comments. I always appreciate the feedback and I have now replaced the double bed with a terrific, extremely comfortable King bed so your next visit will be Perfect !! Sandra
