Enjoy staying in the center of Fort Lauderdale in a home that is a part of "Old Florida", freshly renovated to provide all the modern conveniences. Situated in a historic neighborhood and just across the street from the New River, this house is walking distance from the Performing Arts Center, the Riverwalk, and the new supermarket. Las Olas Boulevard with its shops and restaurants is just minutes away by car as are the famous beaches of Fort Lauderdale. Just 10 minutes from the airport with close access to I-95 makes this home convenient to any destination in the greater Fort Lauderdale area.
The restoration of this home has honored its architectural heritage with Dade County Pine floors and French doors separating the two bedrooms from the oversized living room with its wall of jalousie windows. A granite countertop offers additional seating or serving space between the kitchen and the amply sized dining room. A sunny family room is directly off the kitchen and comes with a work station and additional dining area and television. Tasteful decorating touches give an air of elegance and sophistication to this gem.
The house sits on a double lot with mature planting and a large yard. A patio/deck with table and chairs is the perfect place to enjoy the wonderful Fort Lauderdale weather. Take a walk across the street to the little park on the New River and watch the parade of boats. Or just sit in the screened in front porch and watch the neighbors pass by. A restful space with numerous spots to relax makes this home ideal for a group or a family to stay. Anyone can appreciate this home’s spaciousness and enjoy entertaining guests both inside and out.

This cottage is so quaint and charming! My girlfriend and I came for a 4 day retreat in the sunshine and we could not have picked a better place to stay. A sense of peace and tranquility meet you at the front door upon arrival. The cottage is beautifully decorated, with dark hard wood floors and pretty Florida colors on the walls. We were a short drive to the beach, and Whole Foods and cooked all our meals in as we were transitioning to a Wellness plant based eating plan, and what a perfect place for us to be. Robin was so helpful with our reservations! We will come here again in a heartbeat. And so close to the airport which was helpful with a 6am departing flight!Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We had rented this house when we were in town working at the performing arts theater. We had our great dane with us and needed a place that would take big dogs. This house was perfect and its fenced in yard made it easy to take her outside. Thanks so much for accommodating our travel needs! We also recommended your place to renters that we had at our vacation rental in St. Pete Beach, FL.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, pet owners.

Very much enjoyed our stay at this historic cottage. Our kids are 4 and 6 and we were in FLL for a week. The cottage is very spacious, tastefully decorated and has everything we needed. Enjoyed our breakfasts on the deck outside. Publix supermarket is a 5 min drive away and downtown Fort Lauderdale is a walk across the bridge. Within 10 min walk you are at the famous Riverwalk, Arts Centre, Science Centre, Las Olas and many fine eating establishments of this city. Airport and all major freeways are a 10 min drive, overall a very convenient location. There are many beaches around FLL. While the house is about 10-15 min drive to the closest beach, it did not bother us as we explored a few, as far as Miami. The owners live next door and are very helpful with whatever questions we had. Sally had a lot of beach toys for our kids, that was awesome! Thank you very much Bill, Sally and Robin for making out stay at your house such an enjoyable one! We will definitely call you next time we need to stay in FLL!Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Owner info
About the owner: This property has a lot of history. Sold out of the family in the 1930's, the house was built by the woman who owned the lumberyard in town in the 1930's. We were able to reacquire it some years back and make it part of the original property the family owned in the 1920's. We are thrilled to be able to share a piece of Florida history with our guests.
Why the Owner Chose Tarpon River:
I have been coming to Florida and to this house since I was a young child. It is an area that is full of wonderful memories as well as great weather. Beautiful public beaches and great access to all that Florida has to offer make it a great plus.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
If you are looking for a resort type experience - this is not the place for you. If on the other hand you like to travel and feel like a native, in a relaxing cozy environment, this is it! Stroll across the street and watch the boat parade, the draw bridges going up and down, or hop in the car and head to the beach.
