AKONI PULE GUEST HOUSE

The Akoni-Pule Guesthouses and North Kohala offer an immersive Hawaiian experience removed from the tourist traps and bustle of other locales. In fact, it may have you believing you're a local.

This private Eden reveals two houses, and presents a variety of accommodations, as there are two separate houses with distinctive floor plans. The entire property sleeps 14. Please view our other rental listings at VRBO/215142 and VRBO/215410.

The Mango House is a luxuriously designed 2,000 square foot house. The king sized master bedroom on the first floor accesses the 1,000 ft. of covered lanai decks. The upstairs loft bedroom with another king bed as well as a trundle bed, has its own bathroom and upper level private lanai.

Set back from the road, a striking variety of lush flora envelopes and divides the property, including hibiscus, birds of paradise, orchids, ferns, palms, an awesome banyan tree and fruit trees offering the freshest mangoes, papayas, bananas, and avocados that are yours for the picking. Savor oceanic, pastoral or jungle views as tropical birds sing, geckos chatter, the island breezes caress the trees, and the resonance of the tide rhythmically whispers in the distance.

Very private escape

Guest: Duck (Canada)
Date of Stay: 11/10/11 Review Submitted: 12/02/11

Wonderful location for privacy, especially when the big house is not rented. The house itself is fantastic, beautifully redone with decks on 3 sides of the house so you can always find the perfect place to sit and read a book or enjoy a bottle of wine in the evening. The house is very well equipped for cooking and eating in. I would and have already recommended this house to others. Two things that were lacking that would make this house a 10 are the lack of a gas BBQ, and a phone that works when it rains. We were unable to make any calls to set up excursions and the internet connection was only hard wired so our ipad that required WiFi could not be used. That aside it is a place that I would and will return to again.

Quiet, Private, Old Hawaii Feel

Guest: Mike and Annie (Minnesota)
Date of Stay: 10/15/11 Review Submitted: 11/26/11

My wife and I enjoyed a great week+ based here. It was a perfect retreat at the end of our days (some work and most play). The feel was tropical but not humid - perfect weather during our October stay. We needed two weeks! The house is kept in great shape and mixes an arts and crafts style with gorgeous native wood and an island feel. The house is about as far to the north as you can go, but for us close enough that we could do everything we needed including a couple trips to the south end of the island, and lots of hiking through the forests. The owner was efficient and flexible with our needs. Many good memories. Mahalo.

Tropical Setting, Cabin-in-the-Woods Feel

Guest: KJ (Columbus, Ohio)
Date of Stay: 09/20/11 Review Submitted: 11/09/11

My husband and I wanted a quiet, private, peaceful location for our honeymoon and we couldn't have asked for anything more perfect. We stayed in the guest house which was the perfect size for two. It's a short drive to some really gorgeous beaches, you can access public beaches via any of the resorts on the Kohala coast. We also loved Hawi and Waimea for dining, strolling, and grocery shopping. The Polulu Valley is literally right around the bend which is one of the most breathtaking views on the island. The house is a bit of a hike from the volcano national park and the Kona coast, but if you're planning on visiting the Big Island, you'll need to plan on driving a lot no matter what! We put 1,300 miles on the rental car in two weeks! The views around every bend are so spectacular though, driving on the island is very pleasant. Plan on having some lizard visitors at this house :) Ultimately, what really sold us on this property was the generosity and flexibility of the owner. He was so willing to work within our schedule and our budget. September is the perfect time to visit!

Perfect Paradise

A group of us stayed in this house for a week and it was amazing. The house is beautifully done with an open floor plan. It feels like you are in your own private rain forest, complete with fresh fruit growing on trees outside your door. The best part of the day was kicking back and relaxing on the lanai. I would highly recommend this place for anyone.

Amazing beautiful property!

We stayed here recently with members of our hula halau while on the island for a performance. We could not have asked for a more beautiful place to stay. The house is amazing inside and out. Very comfortable and private. We didn't want to leave! After leaving and staying farther south in Kona, everyplace else seemed dull and shabby by comparison. The owner was a pleasure to work with and very thoughtful in every way. Thank you Mark for such a beautiful introduction to the Big Island! Mahalo nui!

I spent a week in this beautiful and tranquil house in the jungle.. eating mangoes from the trees and showering in the amazing outdoor shower. The location is perfect if you want to feel away from it all.. with just what you need a 10 min. ride away.. the beaches are a quick 30 min. ride away, due to the picturesque scenery. living in the jungle is truly something else. This was my first time in Hawaii and I really wanted to be away from all the touristy areas. I'm thrilled to have found this house! I fell in love with it & can't wait to return in the near future.

This place is an absolute treasure nestled away in the jungle but only a 5 minute drive from quirky Kapa'au town with galleries and cafe's. We stayed here on our honeymoon for 10 nights and were both sad to leave it behind, even though our next stops were Maui and Oahu and offered promise. Nothing on our whole trip compared to the experience we had whilst staying here - it is your own private sanctuary set amongst avocado, chinese cherry, mango, papaya and banana trees (and we picked whatever was in season and had it for breakfast). We'll be coming back!

There's magic in this welcoming house and the enchanting fragrant breezes that move through the surrounding jungle. The wrap-around porch is my favorite place to catch the sunrise or see the moon and stars after a great day exploring the Big Island. Relaxing, inspiring and so much fun!

I spent a week hidden away in the jungle in the house of my dreams! This place is incredible! The open, airy floorplan, private masterbedroom, and especially the private outdoor shower (there's an indoor shower too!). I ate avocados, bananas, coconuts, papaya, and even cherries off the trees. 30 minutes from the beaches, and not 10 minutes from where Akoni Pule Highway dead ends at the breathtaking view of Pololu Valley, coming "home" to this place makes you feel like your a part of this island.
