Tropical Oasis at the Mango House with Wraparound Lanai and Oceanviews
- Minimum stay:3 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
The Mango House and North Kohala offer an immersive Hawaiian experience removed from the tourist traps and bustle of other locales. In fact, it may have you believing you're a local.
Set back from the road, a striking variety of lush flora envelopes and divides the property, including hibiscus, birds of paradise, orchids, ferns, palms, an awesome banyan tree and fruit trees offering the freshest mangoes, papayas, bananas, and avocados that are yours for the picking. Savor oceanic, pastoral or jungle views as tropical birds sing, geckos chatter, the island breezes caress the trees, and the resonance of the tide rhythmically whispering in the distance.
The Mango House is a luxuriously designed 2,000 square foot house. The king sized master bedroom on the first floor accesses the 1,000 ft. of covered lanai decks. The upstairs loft bedroom with another king bed as well as a trundle bed, has its own half bathroom and upper level private lanai.
This private Eden reveals three other private houses spread out over 2 acres and presents a variety of accommodations, as each house offers it's own distinctive floor plan. The entire property sleeps 18-20. Please view our other rental listings at VRBO/215142, VRBO/215410 and VRBO/452049.

My family along with my brother-in-law's family stayed in the three houses, and they were amazing. We had a total of 13 of us, and six of us stayed in the Mango house and absolutely loved it. The weather was perfect, and the view was incredible. The beach is just a short drive, or hike away. There are many hiking trails that we went on and the view only got better after each one. We will definitely be coming back for another trip.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Descriptions are inadequate to portray this sense of this place - it's gorgeous and private- the house is better than the photos, place was clean (without being sterile like some rentals - there was salt and shoyu and vinegar in the cupboard - which was nice). The Apa'apa'a winds are mystical there, and the banyon tree is an ent of a special sort. I dream about this place. I've stayed in the Banyon House and the Mango Cottage and hope to return to either.. I love the pace and people of Kohala. Housekeeper was great. Our hula halau wove our adornments on the porch and the space and grace of the property supported us all. Mahalo nui loa!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Relatives arrived at their rental and were so appreciative of the rentals that were provided for their stay. Both home close yet apart by lush tropical plants provided a wonderful separation making the units very private. Beautiful island hardwood floors and staircases among other features created the ambience that an islander could truly appreciate. Thankyou for providing our families with the best possible weekend.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Beautifully finished and appointed interior - I scored major points with my traveling companion. Beautiful woods, air and sun. Good communications and perfect directions, no surprises (which is a totally great thing with vacation rentals) Just outside of Kapa'a a car is necessary, you would be driving if you were touring East Kohala anyway. A great base. The drive to Waimea from Hawi is magical.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Wonderful location for privacy, especially when the big house is not rented. The house itself is fantastic, beautifully redone with decks on 3 sides of the house so you can always find the perfect place to sit and read a book or enjoy a bottle of wine in the evening. The house is very well equipped for cooking and eating in. I would and have already recommended this house to others. Two things that were lacking that would make this house a 10 are the lack of a gas BBQ, and a phone that works when it rains. We were unable to make any calls to set up excursions and the internet connection was only hard wired so our ipad that required WiFi could not be used. That aside it is a place that I would and will return to again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My wife and I enjoyed a great week+ based here. It was a perfect retreat at the end of our days (some work and most play). The feel was tropical but not humid - perfect weather during our October stay. We needed two weeks! The house is kept in great shape and mixes an arts and crafts style with gorgeous native wood and an island feel. The house is about as far to the north as you can go, but for us close enough that we could do everything we needed including a couple trips to the south end of the island, and lots of hiking through the forests. The owner was efficient and flexible with our needs. Many good memories. Mahalo.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

My husband and I wanted a quiet, private, peaceful location for our honeymoon and we couldn't have asked for anything more perfect. We stayed in the guest house which was the perfect size for two. It's a short drive to some really gorgeous beaches, you can access public beaches via any of the resorts on the Kohala coast. We also loved Hawi and Waimea for dining, strolling, and grocery shopping. The Polulu Valley is literally right around the bend which is one of the most breathtaking views on the island. The house is a bit of a hike from the volcano national park and the Kona coast, but if you're planning on visiting the Big Island, you'll need to plan on driving a lot no matter what! We put 1,300 miles on the rental car in two weeks! The views around every bend are so spectacular though, driving on the island is very pleasant. Plan on having some lizard visitors at this house :) Ultimately, what really sold us on this property was the generosity and flexibility of the owner. He was so willing to work within our schedule and our budget. September is the perfect time to visit!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

A group of us stayed in this house for a week and it was amazing. The house is beautifully done with an open floor plan. It feels like you are in your own private rain forest, complete with fresh fruit growing on trees outside your door. The best part of the day was kicking back and relaxing on the lanai. I would highly recommend this place for anyone.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We stayed here recently with members of our hula halau while on the island for a performance. We could not have asked for a more beautiful place to stay. The house is amazing inside and out. Very comfortable and private. We didn't want to leave! After leaving and staying farther south in Kona, everyplace else seemed dull and shabby by comparison. The owner was a pleasure to work with and very thoughtful in every way. Thank you Mark for such a beautiful introduction to the Big Island! Mahalo nui!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.
