Fawn Hill Camp is a charming Adirondack red and white cottage, nestled near the woods. Fawn Hill was named for the hill behind the cottage, where a baby fawn was born and then hidden by its mother on the deck of our camp for safe-keeping.
The cottage is just a short 1/2 mile walk or drive from the Old Forge town center. Old Forge has a sandy beach with life-guard, and diving boards for great swimming. A boat dock in Old Forge for your motorboat, canoe or kayak is close at hand. Many quaint shops and restaurants abound on Main Street for your shopping convenience and for enjoyable eating-out after another great day in the Adirondacks.
Also nearby is a well-stocked supermarket, a drugstore, and a movie theatre. Old Forge is also the home of the Enchanted Forest, a large water-slide park, and of McCauley Mountain where a chairlift takes you up for scenic views. Two golf courses are within a 15-minute drive.
The cottage has a large deck with an awning which overlooks the woods where many deer pass by every day. The deck provides a leisure spot to enjoy coffee and newspapers in the morning and to have meals in the outdoors.
Fawn Hill is an excellent location for hiking or biking, situated on the South Shore Road bike path which connects to the Old Forge bike trails. Fawn Hill is perfect for your family holiday needs.
The cottage includes four small bedrooms upstairs and one bathroom downstairs with shower and is very suitable for a family with children. Three of the bedrooms have double beds and one is equipped with twin beds, therefore 6-8 can be accommodated. One bedroom also has a small TV.
A screened-in porch on the front of the house provides additional "hanging-out" space for you and your guests. The kitchen is fully equipped with stove, dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator/freezer, coffee maker, and toaster. There is plenty of cupboard space, stocked with dishes, pots and pans, utensils, and all other kitchen essentials. A beautiful, sunny, dining room seats six.
There is also an outdoor gas barbecue and a fire pit to roast marshmallows with the kids. For rainy days there is a large TV with cable in the living room, as well as stereo, VCR and DVD player. The wood burning fireplace in the living room is not currently working as we are making chimney repairs.
At the back door mudroom entrance you will find a small washer and dryer, as well as an iron and ironing board for your convenience. The house has a double garage to keep your car dry and to store bicycles, kayaks and canoes. Gas and electric heat is also included.
In the winter the lighted garage make a ideal place to store or work on your snowmobiles before accessing the Old Forge snowmobile trails from South Shore Rd. You will find that you are only a half mile from all the winter action in downtown Old Forge. Old Forge has been the home of McCauley Mountain for the last 50 years, providing great skiing, especially for children. Numerous cross-country ski-trails also exist in the area.
The cottage has cell phone reception from Verizon and ATT.
No pets and no smoking in Fawn Hill Camp please.

George has been vacationing in Old Forge since 1956 and was born and raised in the NYC area. Marion was born in Holland and has been enjoying Old Forge since 1997. We purchased this house as our own vacation home and used it for almost 10 years ourselves. When we retired in 2006, we built a new home in Old Forge and started renting "Fawn Hill". We love the Adirondacks and are enjoying retirement and all there is to do locally. We take care of the house ourselves, so everything will be perfect for your vacation stay!
Hope to meet you soon.

Great location...10 minute walk to Old Forge Pond waterfront and 15 minute walk to McCauley hiking trails (an excellent warm-up hike....not too hard, very scenic, varying degrees of difficulty). House is super cool....not super zooty but very regional flavor and 4 bedrooms meant everybody had their own...decor very nice, homey, unique. House was very clean and organized. Nice living room with cable and VCR/DVD...plenty of movies included. Fireplace and mantel in LR is quite attractive. Kitchen is huge...lots of light, nice appliances and equipment, lots of dishes and glasses and pots and pans and utensils...dishwasher is great. 6 to 8 person dining room table next to the kitchen...very convenient. BR with big stand-up shower and heat lamp was very cool. Place felt like home from the minute we walked in. Great parking with turn-around space so you don't have to back out. Garage if you need it. Front porch is super.....screened in with ADK furniture...we hung out there all the time. Can't wait to go back...George and Marion....you guys are special. Thank you for the excellent base of operations...we'll see you again!!!

This is a wonderful cottage; we would highly recommend it! We spent 4 nights at Fawn Hill; we hated to see our visit end. The cottage is very comfortable, clean, appliances are up to date, the kitchen is well stocked for preparing meals, all items work as they should. The deck and front screened-in porch are very private, nice places to read, watch wildlife (we had deer visit everyday) or have a meal. The bedrooms are cozy and well furnished. The cottage is a plesant walk to Old Forge, there is a marked bike/walking area right in front of the house. It is obvious from your first contact with the owners that they are kind people who put a lot of effort into the comfort of their renters; they have thought of many extras that will help to make your stay very relaxing. We greatly enjoyed renting from them and look forward to returning to Fawn HIll.

Fawn Hill is a charming cottage. It was clean, comfortable and homelike. My family enjoyed the comfy furniture, roasting marshmallows in the fire pit and watching the wildlife from the porch and decks. (The kids counted 6 deer during our two-night stay, including a mother and fawn that came right up to the back deck!) The bike lane in front of the house allowed us to ride safely to the town park. The Oswalds were wonderful hosts. I recommend this property.

Beautiful property with all the comforts of home. Private, yet close to the action. We spent 5 glorious nights at Fawn Hill in June 2008, bicycling to town, watching the wildlife from the cottage deck, and enjoying visits from the deer several times daily. On our drive home we were already looking forward to our next stay. A wonderful cottage that we recommend to anyone traveling to Old Forge area.
