This condo has it all--great ocean view with the water practically at your fingertips, comfortable lanai, spacious and comfortable indoors, and peace and quiet (provided you don't get a rowdy group moving into the unrelated upstairs unit, that is; a possibility anywhere, and only a problem one night during our stay). The location is superb, near great snorkeling and a major supermarket, but away from the Kona traffic. We've stayed in another nice Kona condo for several years but finally got tired of the Ali'i Drive noise, cars, and scene on a constant basis. Here, we could indulge in that as much as we wanted to, then escape it in minutes. Everything in the condo was clean, in good working order, and nicely kept up (if you like to cook a lot, you might want to bring a good knife, kitchen ware was adequate but pretty basic). And although we didn't need much from them, the owners were genuinely helpful without being intrusive. We look forward to coming back!

My husband and I had a fantastic stay at your condo. It was one of the most well- stocked places we have stayed at. The patio view of the sunsets each night were something we looked forward to at the end of our day. The location was ideal - close to town but far enough away for just enjoying the ocean.. Your condo size was perfect and didn't feel cramped. The only thing that was a little frustrating was that the condo office charged to have you access your own boarding passes and then each page that is printed for return flights. The owners of the condo couldn't have been more accomodating and gracious and we will definately stay here on our next visit to Kona.

Perfect Location

My wife and I celebrated our 50th anniversary your condo. When we entered our unit, we were delighted and overjoyed. We continue to reflect on our stay here with the fondest of memories spent on the lanai listening to the crashing waves, watching the catamaran and longboard paddlers, enjoying a glass of wine, dinner on our lanai and catching the sunsets. We dined in most of the evenings as it was difficult to leave our fantastic view. This is a magical place, close enough to Kona that you can drive there in ten minutes but far enough away that you can retreat to the beautiful grounds of the resort complete with tennis courts, swimming pools, golf next door and beaches close by. The unit was clean and well-stocked. When we had a question, the owners responded quickly and were very helpful. Our drive through the northern coast to Hilo and the southern route back to Kona was beautiful. The diversity of the Islands eco-systems becomes well understood. We took several hikes. Two of our favorites were Kilauea Iki Trail through the Kilauea Crater and Pololu Beach trail. We were in Kona in November during Coffee Festival week. We went to the art and coffee tasting walk in quaint Holualoa and spent a fun afternoon.

Relax and enjoy oceanfront living

We visit the island of Hawai'i often because our son and daughter-in-law live in Kona. We've stayed at several of the resorts, but wanted more of a home away from home experience. We were fortunate to find this wonderful oceanfront condo. We watched glorious sunsets, spinning dolphins and a canoe race right from the lanai. Bruce and Janice have thought of everything needed to make any stay even better than an oceanfront room at one of the resorts. The condo is well maintained, clean, tidy and uncluttered. It is equipped with everything needed for a fun day at the beach (beach chairs, mats, ice chest, towels, even boogie boards) and for day to day living at the condo (dishes, cookware, serveware, every possible utensil, paper goods, towels, and the list goes on). There's even a binder full of tips for enjoying a stay on the island.

8 NIGHTS IN HEAVEN-We have been to the big Island 5 times each one a vrbo experience. This was the best all around experience we have ever had. Quiet Oceanfront with views to kill for. The 3 or 4 pools were uncrowded minimal kids not tha we dont love kids but we did leave our eight grandkids home for a reason. Beautiful gardens and geckos galore. We watched turtles from our lanai a great place for breakfast. Shopping less than 1 mile away. Stay here for the vacation of a life time. Best snorkel trip done by Fairwinds a short walk . I shore fished just in front of our lanai. A farmers market at the Keauhau Shopping center just a short walk away. Hula school performances weekly at the shopping center.Buy fresh fish a the marina north of Kona and cook your own meal with the freshest fish you'll ever have. We did all our meals at the condo saving hundreds of dollars. Grills supplied were cleaned every day. Grounds were spotless. If you go stay here!!! motthans

Lovely Hawaii Retreat

We enjoyed our stay here so very much. The home is furnished with everything one could possibley need to enjoy their stay in Hawaii, right down to ice chest and ice packs frozen and ready to use! We loved the location, sitting on the lanai, looking out at the ocean, watching and listening to the waves crashing on the rocks. We would definitely like to return to this little piece of paradise.

My husband and I have visited the Big Island annually for the last 20 years. We have stayed in numerous different units at Kanaloa. The units vary greatly in terms of cleanliness, amenities, and comfortableness. What we liked about unit #1802 was 1) how friendly and helpful the owner was when responding to our emails. 2) The unit was spotless when we entered. It was obvious that the unit had been cleaned from top to bottom. 3) The beds were comfortable! 4) the quality of the towels and linens and the fact that they had a linen closet for us to obtain more when neeeded. 5) unit had washer, dryer, dvd player, t.v. cooler, beach towels, beach chairs. 6) furniture on lanai was wonderful! we LOVED the way the chairs rocked back and forth. 7) air conditioning so we could sleep at night. And last, but NOT least, there were NO snarky notes from the cleaning service. I kid you not, we have rented Kanaloa units from others in previous years and have been charged $150 cleaning fee(standard) only to check in and find a snarky note telling us all the housekeeping chores that are expected from us before checking out: wash towels and linens, take out trashes, sweep and things I'm sure I've forgotten. I don't mind 'helping' the cleaning service get a jump start by getting the laundry going BUT I do mind the demanding and threatening tone in the list that is left for us. Thank you Janice for making our stay wonderful and carefree. I hope to rent from you again!

Terrific Property

Driving into the development, the fatigue from the trip lifted as the lovely landscaping soothed us. Then into the apartment and we were so thrilled. My wife spent many very happy hours on the lanai - we have perhaps a hundred photos of the waves breaking and even a movie with sound to remind us of the setting. None do justice to the actual view. As we left my wife told me she was not ready to leave the view of the ocean. She spent most of our last hours in the apartment on the deck. We vacation three times a year and almost always rent condos. We have never rented one so carefully prepared and thoughtfully provided. We never imagined we would have a closet filled with rich towels, or another closet filled with books and lights and candles - everything we could possibly use. We loved the washer and dryer and again it was provided with detergent for our use. Scuba diving, my wife was pierced by sea urchin spines (sounds worse than it is, but then I was not pierced was I?) and the kitchen even had vinegar - the treatment for her injury! The beds were exceptionally comfortable, the linens excellent, everything about the apartment was perfect. This type of careful preparation of the unit enabled us to fully enjoy all of our time on the island.

We have stayed in several condos on all of the islands and by far this condo was the best!! The ocean was "at your front door." The ammenties and the furnishings were "top of the line." The views absolutely beautiful. We were sorry we had to leave, but resposiblity called!! Hopefully, we shall return in the near future...

This is a very nice condo. It fit my wife and three teenagers easily. The Master Bedroom is great- I wish MY bedroom was this large! The view from the lanai is very relaxing- I could have spent most of my time right there but the kids had to go-go-go all the time. We stayed the last week of July, 2009 and were glad we opted for the air conditioning. It was pretty warm. It is nice that Bruce and Janice provide a cooler and other beach items. The pools at the resort are also nice, and I was able to cook out a few times on one of the many gas barbeques there. In all, I would highly recommend this condo. Kevin C.

Unit #1802 - Kanaloa at Kona is wonderful. We had a great 9 day stay there, December 2008. It is furnished with top quality amenities throughout, and the owners seemed to think of everything guests would need or want. The items in the kitchen are very clean and much nicer than one would expect to find in a rental unit. But the view from the lanai is the clincher - couldn't be better. Only feet away from the crashing waves, we heard the wonderful sound all night as we slept peacefully. We had breakfast and lunch daily on the lanai and spent many hours just watching the ocean. We highly recommend this unit!

We truly enjoyed our 9 nights at this condo. It is in a beautiful location and is very clean and quiet. It also has everything you need, other than your swimsuit and shorts, to have a great time. We were pleasantly surprised by the "outing" items they had available for us to use; from small ice chests, folding chairs and beach mats, to flashlights for lava tube exploring. The owner's have put together a great information book of their own and had several Big Island books we really enjoyed reading that helped us decide what we wanted to do and where we should go. The guide book they have gone through and added tabs and highlighting was especially helpful. The kitchen is very well set up with all equipment needed to cook and serve a wonderful meal to enjoy on the lanai. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. We also liked having an attended gate at the entrance. It is in a nice quiet neighborhood so it wasn't from fear that we liked it. It was just nice to know that anyone who was around was actually supposed to be there, so we left things in the car we would not have normally. When you stop at the gate upon arrival, they issue you a parking pass. From then on, the attendant sees the pass on your mirror and opens the gate as you approach. The market in the shopping center just up the hill is also very convenient and well stocked for a small store. We had planned to go to Costco for major shopping but never made it. We are looking forward to our next trip back!

Dear Janice and Bruce, Thank you so much for renting your wonderful condo to us. We've read all the great comments about it on this site, but it still surpassed our expectation. Sitting on the Lanai watching sunset and having the surf come up almost all the way up to the Lanai (so much so that we will occasionally feel a few drops land right on us) was as tranquil as it gets. We also really appreciated all the wonderful advice you've given us on things to do, places to visit, tips on doing all of that with small kids. You've helped make this trip so memorable for us! Next time we plan a trip to the Big Island, there is no question on who we will contact first! Thank you again!

July 28 thru Aug 4, 2008 Bruce and Janice were very accommodating to all of are needs. The condo was simply amazing. The view was beyond words. " JUST BEAUTIFUL". Everything was at our fingertips. The sunsets were amazing and so beautiful. Shopping and fine dining was just a short drive away. The staff at rhe resort were so helpful. One big plus for me was NO NOISE. A person could sit out all evening and be in absolute peace and quiet. I would return next week if possible. Hope to return soon. Thanks again Bruce and Janice for everything. This was one of the best places my family has ever had the pleasure of staying at. Hats off to you both for providing such a wonderful place we could call home for a great week. Hosts Bruce and Janice were very accommodating. We were able to check in early on our day of arrival! The condo is immaculate and the kitchen divine. Being a chef, I was able to cook all our meals to enjoy on the lanai. Husband and son were able to golf 36 holes each day, while I sipped cocktails made at the wet bar! It's beautifully renovated & furnished. Janice & Bruce were gracious and helpful. The condo is perfectly situated near downtown, with a beautiful ocean view from the 6th floor balcony. It's furnished with everything one could want- dishwasher, beach chairs, picnic cooler, beach umbrella, on-site laundry, etc. We loved it! I'd go back in a heartbeat! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

This was our seventh visit to the Big Isalnd, our third stay at Kanaloa and our second in this fantastic ocean-front condo. The location, size, amenities, condition and sunsets are superior in all regards. Highly recommended. Very secure and quiet resort but just minutes from the best snorkeling at Kahaluu, KTA shopping and the Fairwind at for great snorkel trips to Captain Cook's. The Big Island has everything so go explore!

Lovely condo, truly a home away from home. Everything very well thought out for a beach home. All you have to bring is your swimsuit - they provided everything. Enjoyed dining in the restaurant on the grounds overlooking the ocean...although we did not want to leave our lanai! Also, there is always someone in the clubhouse willing to recommend activities, restaurants, etc. Great tennis courts - don't bring your rackets as they supply everything at the Clubhouse.

What a week we had - July 6-13-06. Kanaloa and the Patterson's condo was the best choice we made. Convenient location to beaches, restaurants, and shopping. The condo itself was fabulous. Everything was immaculate and thoroughly comfortable. All meals were eaten on the lanai and we watched seven gorgeous sunsets from there also. We loved the Big Island and know that when we return, we will be staying in this unit again! Thank you for a great stay!!!

This place is the real deal - clean, quiet, absolute oceanfront and furnished with everything you need for a relaxing vacation. We visited the week of June 17-24 and would not consider staying anywhere else should we ever return to the Big Island. I am generally not a good sleeper, especially when traveling. The sound of the waves crashing on the rocks along with the quietness of the Kanaloa complex gave me the best 7 nights of sleep that I have had for as long as I can remember. Many thanks to the Pattersons for this great experience.

Our favorite experience here for us was the view of the surf and big waves during our week. I took lots of pictures, since I paint with watercolors. It was fun to watch the canoe races and their practices every night. Thank goodness there was AC in this condo; it was humid and hot this week. We enjoyed this beautiful and clean condo so much. We love this place! The condominium is beautiful, very clean and comfortable, and the owners have it fully equipped right down to the beach mats and cooler. The location is right on the ocean, very quiet with only the sound of the crashing waves. We enjoyed golf at the Kona Country Club adjacent to these condominiums with tee boxes right next to the ocean! The spinner dolphins swam by right in front of the lanai and gave us a fairwell show with jumping and spinning on the morning we departed! A hui hoa!

Janice & Bruce: Just a quick note to tell you how much we enjoyed the use of your condo last week. We couldn't have asked for a better setting. It proved to be a great base for our excursions and also a pleasant place just to relax when we were too pooped from running around. We took you up on your suggestion to use Neptune Charlie's and it was a terrific morning. We all went scuba diving and Mark & Angy took good care of us. They were very pleasant and personable. Just to look over and see some other very crowded tourist snorkel/dive boats assured us that going smaller was the right decision. Don't hesitate to use us for an email reference if needed. Just wanted to thank you for letting us use your wonderful condo again. We thought it had been 3 years but had been almost 4 since we had been to your place! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves again, not quite as much time there as before, as we stopped for two nites in Oahu to take our 15 year old son to Pearl Harbor, I was about his age when I went and made a memory for me that I will always treasure, so wanted to make sure this time he went also. Otherwise, we normally don't overnite in Oahu, just not laid back enough for us!! I think you will have to stay in your house forever, and not ever retire to your condo, as all of us would not be able to use it then! We will be back! Saw some dolphins out front, and some whales down in Kohala. My son and husband met Bruce out in the parking lot, maybe next time we can all meet, I am sure you can give us lots of information. My husband, Kevin, has always wanted to move over, when our son is out of high school. We'll see about that! Thanks again for sharing,
