If you want to get away from everything.... except a cottage on a beautiful beach in the Bahamas, then consider a week at the REEF HOUSE.
The REEF HOUSE is a 4 bedroom, 2 bath, oceanfront cottage located at Bahama Palm Shores, Abaco, Bahamas. The cottage is aptly named because it is in swimming distance of a series of reefs that calm the ocean before the waves hit the beach, making it perfect for swimming, snorkeling, fishing, or just viewing the beautiful tropical waters.
The spacious cottage is fully equipped; has a great room with cathedral ceilings, a complete kitchen, dining, and living area that opens to a screened porch overlooking the ocean. There are two queen bedrooms with adjoining baths downstairs, and two large loft bedrooms with 2 twin beds in each, that are easily accessible by stairs. A 10' dinghy, a 2 person kayak, and an inflatable raft are furnished for our guests.
Abaco Island is less than 200 miles east of Florida, and Marsh Harbor has an international airport served by Continental and American, as well as numerous Floridian and Bahamian airlines.
The REEF HOUSE is located about 19 miles south of Marsh Harbor, and we will provide map and easy directions. By far, the best way to get to the cottage is to rent a car at the airport in Marsh Harbor (about $350/wk). You then have the pleasure of your own private beach cottage; yet have to ability to explore and enjoy the entire island of Abaco.
We rent for a week or longer at a time,(no nightly rentals)
$1800/week(7 nights) and $225 for each additional night.

This house is amazing! We stayed during the month of November and couldn't have been happier with the accomodations. From top to bottom, this house was a great vacation spot.

The Reef House is everything it's advertised to be! The pictures and description are an accurate reflection on how wonderful this vacation house is. We stayed here for ten days in July, and it was as close to perfect as it gets. The house is beautifully furnished, well maintained, and fully stocked; we found everything we needed. The location is perfect. Private and secluded, yet just a ~25 minute drive to Marsh Harbor. The entire time we were there, we saw only six people walking by on the beach which is our idea of heaven. You really do feel as if you have your own private beach. We enjoyed just relaxing on the beach, but it's easy to tour the island (rent a car, you'll need one), and you can take a ferry to one of the other cays. Since there are no window coverings on any windows, and why block that great ocean view, I recommend you bring an eye mask for sleeping, unless you want to get up at dawn. Also, because glass gets washed up on the beach, I'd bring water shoes with a good sole. Maxwells is a great store in Marsh Harbour where you can find almost anything you need. The Island Bakery has very good cinnamon rolls. Can't really recommend any of the Marsh Harbour restaurants. We ate at Mangoes (so-so), made the trip to Pete's Pub (not worth the trouble), and took the ferry to Great Guana Cay to eat at Nippers (once was enough). We made most of our meals at the Reef House, utilizing the barbeque, and they were great. The Reef House has been one of our best finds on VRBO and I can't recommend it highly enough if you want a relaxing vacation in a beautiful ocean setting. I wish I was there right now! Thanks Bill and Helen!

We booked this house for our 18 day stay in Abaco we thought it looked great from the pictures but the moment we opened the door it exceeded all our expectations it has everything from the most amazing beach just a few steps away to the great kitchen and spacious bedrooms, From here its very easy to explore the rest of south Abaco and easy to reach Marsh harbour to rent a boat or ride the ferry to the surrounding cays the beach outside is great for fishing or just beach walking which we did one day walked all the to Casuarina Point 2hrs each way and only saw 6 people so if want to fall asleep to the sound of the waves and to feel like you have the whole beach to yourself then this house is for you like the other review the only negative comment we have is we also had to leave
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.

Just returned from our Reef House trip for Christmas 2010. It was everything and more! The beach was beautiful and the island has the friendliest people! The only negative thing was that we couldn't stay longer! Great house for peace and quiet and it has everything you and your family will need!
Owner response:The response from this renter is typical of the responses we usually receive. I am proud to say that all of our guests have neen very pleased with the accomodations, and the surrounding area. This is our second home which we love, and we ask our guests to treat it as their own, and they have ! Bill
