The Hide Out is a part of a real, working Alpaca Ranch. It is located on the top of a gently, sloping hill overlooking Lake Corpus Christi, about 4 miles from Mathis, TX on 30.6 acres and about 1/4 of mile from the main house at Gulf Breeze Alpaca Ranch. IT IS BEST TO CALL TO VERIFY DATES SHOWN ON CALENDAR. MANY DATES ARE BLOCKED FOR HERD MANAGEMENT TASKS AND FIBER ARTS CLASSES, BUT MAY BE AVAILABLE TO THOSE WISHING TO LEARN ABOUT ALPACA HEALTH AND CARE. PLEASE CALL WITH ANY INQUIRIES 361.537.0503

Remodeled in 2008, this property has one bedroom with a pillow-top kingsize bed. The living room is comfortable and includes an LCD TV with Satellite, and a small dinette table in a cozy corner. You'll need to bring your cell phone because there are no landlines to the Hide Out. There is a fully equipped Galley Kitchen; range, microwave and fridge, and all the cookware you will need. With over 20 chickens at the ranch, you wont run out of eggs during your stay at The Hide Out. We'll keep your fridge stocked with fresh farm eggs!

Enjoy your downtime or grill your dinner on the covered deck as you watch the sun set. Our Boys (male Alapcas) are housed at The Hide Out and can be seen from the deck grazing in the pasture that surrounds The Hide Out. As of Spring 2009 we have 8 males and 9 females.

If taking leisurely walks along quiet country roads is your idea of a great time, you'll love The Hide Out. The drive up from the road is almost 1,000 feet on its own. Plus there is an unpaved road along the crest of the hill that runs parallel to the lake. You'll encounter many birds and other wild life, including an occassional deer or two, or three! A small private pond is within site of The Hide Out and is a favorite spot for much of the local wildlife and bird population. And because we are located along the migratory route we do see many birds and butterflies! We keep birding books and binoculars available for our guests.


Lake Corpus Christi State Recreation Area is only a few minutes drive. The area boasts fishing, boating & skiing and swimming activities. While The Hide Out is not located with lake front, there is lake access very close by or you may use the facilities as the Recreation Area. The city of Corpus Christi is only 45 minutes by car. Once there you will find plenty of shopping & dining opportunities as well as finding all the popular attractions (USS Lexington Museum, Texas State Aquarium, Whataburger Field, etc).   • Pet Friendly: Because this is a ranch, there are a lot of animals on the property. It may not be appropriate for your pet. We suggest that you call us to discuss this with us before deciding on bringing your pet.
  • Kid Friendly: Due to the size of The Hide Out we must limit the number of children to 2.
  • Minimum Age Limit for Renters: We do not rent to students under 25 unless accompanied by parent/guardian.
  • Smoking Not Allowed: Smoking is allowed on the deck only during "burn ban" days.
