The Central Coast is the 'undiscovered' gem of California. This area is reminiscent of Tuscany (by the sea). Golden Hills, thousands of acres of vineyards, majestic seas and sleepy beach towns, an up-and-coming 'foodie' region, with artisan olive oil, cheese-making, lavender farms and many fine wineries and tasting rooms. The area is renowned for the recreation available, with two State Parks nearby, beach and lake activities, horseback riding, hiking, and several notable golf courses. Lots of California history with out-of-the-way places to discover and enjoy.
Our home is located in the western hills of Atascadero, ten miles from the historic town of Paso Robles, and twenty miles from the cities of San Luis Obispo (CalPoly University) and Morro Bay. Hearst Castle is a beautiful 40 minute drive. We are mid-way between Los Angeles and San Francisco, and about a two hour drive to either Santa Barbara, Monterey or San Jose/"Silicon Valley".
Our home sits on a hill, surrounded by hundred year old oak trees, with extensive decking and patios overlooking the western hills and colorful sunsets. The property consists of approximately three acres with private drive, room for RV/boat/horse trailer and a fenced pasture for horses. Horses or other livestock can be accommodated on the property. The Salinas riverbed area is an easy ride and many trails are accessible from the property. The best trail riding can be found thirty miles southwest at Montana del Oro State Park.
While the area is quite beautiful, we have taken a special interest in making our home not only comfortable for us - but for our guests, too. The house is approximately 3,300 square feet with 2 bedrooms and a master suite, three bathrooms, an office, exercise room, and open great room, overlooked by a spacious and gourmet kitchen. French doors line the western walls of the house, offering access to the exterior decks and beautiful views. Much of your time will be spent outdoors on the decks, reading a good book, listening to music (outdoor speakers), or visiting and dining al fresco.
The master suite is located at the extreme south end of the house perched on the edge of the hill overlooking the golden hills. French doors provide access to a small, secluded patio and expansive views. The suite is done in taupe tones with a built in gas fireplace, Brass king-sized bed, and a 42" inch wall-mounted plasma TV with satellite, DVD,VCR and IPOD dock/speaker. The bathroom has a jetted tub, shower, pedestal sinks and custom tile. We love this room and have taken care to make it a special retreat.
Next to the Master Suite is an exercise room equipped with Big Screen TV, DVD, treadmill and exercise bike.
Connected to the exercise room is a second bedroom with a queen-sized bed and view out over the front garden roses and rosemary plants. It is decorated with a fun Western theme. A second bath with tub and shower is located across the hall.
Further down the hall is the true entry to the house, with the great room and office on a step-down level. The great room and office both face west and open with french doors onto their private decks. The office has a sofa, CD/radio player, desk space and office equipment. The house has wireless inter net both in the office and throughout. The great room is covered with west-facing windows and french doors and offers relaxing and inspired views. The room is furnished with a leather sectional, big screen TV, DVD, VCR and stereo system. A see-through gas fireplace connects the great room with the dining room.
The kitchen is a cook's dream with granite counter tops and stainless appliances. The cabinetry has been painted by a local artist with trompe l'oil figures on several of the cabinet doors. It's a fun and colorful kitchen well-suited to entertaining and family gatherings.
Further down the hall from the kitchen is the second bedroom and bathroom. We call this our 'french bedroom' in that is is painted a lovely yellow color and is decorated with memorabilia from our many trips to the Provence region of France. The room has a queen-sized bed and large window which look out on the front garden and fountain. It's a very pretty view with the golden hills and craggy oaks in the distance.
It's a beautiful home and would serve wonderfully for a family get-away, or a couples trip to explore the region. 2 resident cats, 4 chickens and a horse come with the property. They are fed and cared for, but are present.
Whether you seek peace and solitude or an activity-crammed vacation, this area delivers! |
