Puako house description
Enjoy sunsets from the privacy of the large covered lanai, your own sandy beach and enticing tidepools, and the serenity of the perpetual song of ocean breezes in the trees at this lovely oceanfront setting.
This versatile beachfront home can serve as the perfect romantic getaway for a couple, or comfortably accommodate a family or group of eight. The spacious, nicely manicured lawn and easily accessed beach invite both the playful frolic of children and relaxed lounging of adults. Sharing the beach with resident sea turtles is a daily highlight, and during winter months savor the opportunity to view and listen to the grandeur of the visiting humpback whales from the living room, lanai and backyard.
Choose your dining experience, from the beautiful teak indoor dining table to the comfortable and roomy environs of the ocean side lanai, which extends the length of the main house. Here you will find a beautiful outdoor dining table, cozy lounge chairs, and the pune'e, a large built-in lounging area which can be used for outdoor sleeping for those more adventurous souls.
Each bedroom has its own outside entrance complete with full bathroom. The large master bedroom, with king bed, opens out to the ocean through a sliding glass door and onto its own lanai. One of the other three bedrooms opens out to the ocean and onto its own lanai as well.
First class snorkeling, scuba diving and surfing is available within a short walking distance at Paniau, a gorgeous little bay at the end of Puako.

WONDERFUL FAMILY STAY
WONDERFUL FAMILY STAY
Noho Nanea was perfect for our family group of seven adults. The bedrooms & bathrooms were great, the kitchen & living/dining room were great--but the lanai and ocean "back yard" were just incredible. My extended family had not been to the big island before, and we planned on taking them to some ocean-side restaurants, but it just never happened. It was too beautiful eating outside by candle-light at "our" home, after watching amazing sunsets with drinks in hand. We loved the house, and found that the Hawaii feel of it was just right. It's not an ultra-deluxe property, but everything is good quality and very well maintained (photos and video accurate & helpful), and the location is unbeatable. We didn't miss air conditioning at all, and never saw a mosquito. In fact, my Peruvian aunts have declared that they never want to go to Florida again for a vacation; they want to go back to Hawaii (a long trip!), and I know the house had a lot to do with their feelings. Kalia was wonderful to work with when I booked the house, very responsive and helpful, and our security deposit was returned promptly. I thank her so much for helping to make a very special trip possible.

This Puako property is truly paradise found and it will be hard to leave. We enjoyed all aspects of this modern, yet Hawaiian home for our family. Sunsets, diving, fishing and relaxing were the aspirations for our vacation and this location and property exceeded our expectations. The diving at the edge of the barrier reef was like a gigantic aquarium with all Hawaiian fishes present! The property manager was informative and helpful and we appreciate her service. I would definitely suggest renting this property to anyone interested in the best of what Hawaii has to offer. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home-we are all the richer from it! Fabulous home on the beach
Fabulous home on the beach
This home has a cozy look and feel and you will fall in love with it on arrival. It's like you are returning to your own beach home! It has it all...beautiful views, great layout and a wonderful location. This is a great place for a family with children of any age; a place where you can completely relax and become part of the local community.

A wonderful house
A wonderful house
This is a great house for a family or up to 4 couples. Each bedroom has it's own outside entrance and it's own bath. The lanai is huge, with a great bed for relaxing, reading and it holds 6 people! The view from the lanai is spectacular, with whales, sunsets and palm trees. The snorkeling right from the beach is great. It's easy and safe in the shallow water. It can be a bit challenging to swim over the reef, but it's worth it, the coral, fish, and caves are amazing. We rented kayaks from Kalia and paddled over the reef to whale watch. Twice whales came up within 100 feet of the kayak, which was thrilling to say the least. It was a blast timing the waves to surf back in over the reef. If you hear a bang on the roof in the night, that's a ripe mango falling from the tree. Pick it up in the morning before the ants get it! The house was really well equipped with plenty of dishes, everything we could have wanted. Kalia was very helpful. Highly recommended.

Ideal vacation home
Ideal vacation home
Our group of 3 couples stayed at this lovely home for a week - a truly great experience! Though there was much to do around the island, our favorite part was just hanging out on the lanai overlooking the ocean. Every day we were visited by a pair of saffron finches and we saw more whales in 6 days than we'd ever seen in our lifetime! The yard was beautifully landscaped and very private, and we enjoyed the outdoor showers. We liked having the bedrooms separate from the main house - it gave each of us much more freedom as to when we wanted to get up or go to sleep. Kalia is great to work with and had everything in order for our stay. The kitchen was well-stocked and roomy - we ate most of our meals in. The location of the house is toward the far end of Puako Drive, so very little traffic and easy access to a great trail along the ocean that stretches all the way to the Mauna Lani resort. We would enthusiastically recommend this vacation home to anyone who wants to have an idyllic Hawaian retreat right on the water.

Should be used by the Hawaii tourist board to promote the Island. Incredible views, great house for a family that allows the children to have their own sleeping pods. Lanai where we spent 80% of the time. Great location to either use as a base or just hang out. Tide pools with Turtles, eels, fish you name it. Incredible snorkeling of back door. Six very happy family members who did not want to leave and will be returning.

The Ten Things Our Family Loved About This House
The Ten Things Our Family Loved About This House
Mid-July 2012…Four adults and two kiki’s (my granddaughters 3 & 5) on their first Hawaiian adventure. Ten glorious days of paradise in the perfect house. On the last night we all compared notes and compiled our family’s “Ten best things" list: 1. The manager (Kalia) and her family. Helpful, knowledgeable and gracious—and let us enjoy the fantasy that it was our own home even for such a short time. 2. The outdoor showers. 3. Great big kitchen and living room with plenty of “private” space in the four bedrooms with attached bathrooms. 4. Feeding papaya to the resident geckos. 5. Snorkeling and kayaking right from our own beach so we could swim with the turtles every day. 6. Cleaning fresh local shrimp from the Hale I’a fish market in Kawaihae and throwing the heads on the beach for the crabs at night so the little girls could spotlight them with their flashlights. 7. Always a nice breeze, especially right after sunsets, where we hoped to see the “green flash.” 8. Fabulous lanai with room for everyone at the teak dinning table for every meal and the enormous pune’e for reading and naps. 9. Clear starry skies that let us spend hours finding our favorite constellations, planets and satellites, not to mention falling stars. 10. A location close to everything in Kohala area that matters, but never wanting to leave such a perfect home. The house was immaculate, and the grounds gorgeous with flowers everywhere. I knew from the photos of the house, lawn and beach that this would be the perfect introduction for my granddaughters. We plan to come back often. Only regret…no “IZ” Kamakawiwo‘ole, but great slack-key CDs on hand.

We've rented numerous houses over the years on Maui, Kauai, and Oahu. This was our first visit to the Big Island. Noho Nanea is one of the best we have ever stayed at. Just a wonderful, wide open layout. A real bargain compared to the resorts in my opinion.

This is a wonderful house facing the tide pools at Puako. It is very quiet with a fabulous lanai for everyone to gather and where no one wants to leave! The blue "sofa" is the place to be! Sunsets are superb. The house is very comfortable with a welcoming Hawaiian feel and just enough local vintage touches to make it fun and authentic. We were 6 adults and two small children (2 1/2 years and 8 months). The lawn with the sea wall with only one access point to the beach worked very well with the small escape artist. All the bedrooms are seperate from the living quarters of the house; each with their own bathroom. Two bedrooms face the water, one is tucked behind the front two and one is across the carport. Lots of room for everyone to have their own space. Lots of room for little ones to run and still be visible and fairly confined. The house was well equipped and Kalia is very helpful. I can't think of anything lacking. There are two refrigerator/freezers (one with an ice maker) and a full sized washer and dryer. Best to do your shopping in Kona - Costco/Wallmart/Safeway - but there is a general store close by and shopping at Mauna Lani or Wiakaloa Village. Great beaches and snorkeling within a few minutes drive, but the tide pools in front are great fun. It was tough to leave.

Two thumbs up!
Two thumbs up!
Our expectations were naturally very high, but this property exceed them. My family really enjoyed our time here and the house is ideally set up for 3 -4 couples. The bedrooms are all detached from the main house, so some may sleep while others hang out. Also the large deck that looks out over the ocean is a great place to take meals, raise a glass, read a book and in general soak up paradise. Highly recommend.
