Why the Owner Chose Seal Rock
We could have purchased something in Florence or Newport, but they don't have the same kind of beautiful beach we do: rocks and tidepools and almost no other humans, ever! Also, we have great ease of access: just a one-minute walk from our door, and no steep steps. And -- amazingly -- there are less rainy days at the coast in winter than we have back home in Eugene. Eating out is easy here, too: just a 15-minute drive either north or south takes us to lots of great restaurants.
The Unique Benefits of this House
Where else could we gather delicious mussels at low tide, almost all year long? Where else could we gather huckleberries in autumn, for pancakes and muffins? Even in storms, our house is cozy and warm, and well-stocked with environmental magazines, novels, poetry, puzzles, games, and nature guides: books on constellations, Oregon birds, coastal wildflowers, fish, trees, rocks, sea vegetables -- even seafood cookbooks. And, on clear nights, there's the milky way!

My husband & I stayed at this very comfortable cabin for a week. We had everything we needed right at our fingertips, all the luxuries of home. It is obvious that care has been taken to provide for the needs of thier guests. Including many informational pamphlets and postings about the surrounding area and its provisions. We had amazing weather! Beginning of November with sunny, clear skies made the beach even more beautiful, and a minus tide showed us very colorful, very busy tidepools. At night we could hear the ocean from the cabin. We look forward to returning to this cabin as often as possible! We found it perfect in everyway.
Owner response:Thanks for sharing your happy experience, Rhonda. I'm so glad our place welcomed you, and made you feel comfortable and at home. And it really IS an amazing, beach, isn't it? Especially at minus tides. We sometimes even gather mussels during the minus tides. They're so easy to cook -- so if you like shellfish, you might give that a try sometime! Please come back soon! -- Ingrid

My husband and I just returned from eight blissful days in this cozy house, and we already can't wait to go back. This house is so comfortable, so well-equipped, that we could completely relax, since our needs were so well met. Since it's November, we loved the woodstove's gentle heat. It rained a few times hard enough to hear the patter on the open pine ceiling, and always, we could hear the gentle sound of the waves. We needed a relaxing vacation, and in this house, we certainly got it. Very good beds, wonderful bedding. The location couldn't be better, secluded in the woods and so close to the beach that even I, with a knee injury, could manage it every day. We only saw a few scattered people, and only at dog-walking times; the other times, we had it all to ourselves. Wonderful beach to walk on, photograph, explore, daydream on. It's ideally close to everything needed, too - all the shops, restaurants, and galleries of Newport, and the smaller, more casual places of Waldport and Yachats. You'll need a full week - or more! - to really get the most out of this location. We've been spending a week a year in Newport for years, and have stayed in other places--but now we've found our Newport home for as long as Ralph and Ingrid will let us keep coming!
Owner response:Dear Laine and Amos, Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review. It means a lot to us to know that our special beach and the house we've loved for so long, are being enjoyed and appreciated. We'll look forward to your return!

This rustic beach home had all of the comforts of home..then some! Just a stones throw away from one of the prettiest beaches in, Seal Rock! My best friend and I went soley to take pictures of the Oregon coast, and we couldn't have found a better spot. The rock formations on the beach were incredible(not to mention, seal rock, just around the corner)...and the natural pools that formed at low tide, were like your own personal swimming holes. If I ever visit Seal Rock again, I hope my new, favorite place will be available...thanks for sharing your vacation home with us Ingrid and Ralph, we had an awesome time!
Owner response:Thanks for writing, Doug. We're so glad you had a good time -- and you're right, that beach is a photographer's dream. We'll look forward to your return visit!

I think the ultimate question about a vacation rental is, would you go back again? And in this case the answer is absolutely yes! And we plan to rent it again. The house is very comfortable, both the beds and furniture. I would say it's rustic, but refined. We enjoyed having a fire in the nice wood stove on cool evenings which made it very cozy. The kitchen had everything we needed to eat most of our meals there. The location is outstanding. In literally a few minutes you are on the wonderful beach for a walk or driving on Hwy 101 for shopping or sightseeing. At low tide there are some wonderful tide pools. We felt right at home there and the Central Coast is just a beautiful area. Highly recommended! And looking forward to our next visit. And we've already recommended it to friends.
Owner response:Dear Pieter, Thank you for taking the time to write such a glowing review. It gives us great pleasure to know that our efforts -- and our much-loved beach, and beach home -- are appreciated and enjoyed. We'll look forward to your return!

Hi Ingrid, We're back home from our AWESOME vacation to the coast! We loved your beach house! It was in the best location and on the most amazing beach. It was perfect for our family of 4. We had the most beautiful, sunny weather the morning that we explored the tide pools. We saw so many starfish and cool little sea creatures!! The kids got such a kick out of the singing fish on the wall! Wish we were back there right now! Thanks for such a relaxing, comfortable place to stay.
Owner response:Dear Mary, Thank you so much for your good words. We love it when other families discover the wonders of our very special beach and enjoy our cozy home away from home. Please come again!

The house was very simple, yet comfortable. It has a secluded feel despite its proximity to Hwy 101 (on beach side). It is set in serene forest with beach adjacent. The cottage contained everything my family needed to have a wonderful beach stay. In addition to the beautiful tide pools on the local beach, there are a variety of State parks and a gorgeous beaches within minutes. Overall a great getaway with enough creature comforts to provide a comfortable and relaxing vacation.

Great Time despite Rainy Weather

My husband and I brought our twin grandsons to the Oregon coast for a first time experience traveling together. We live in Northern Utah so coastal experiences are a unique experience for us. Even though we had "off and on" rain for the 3 days we were there, we took advantage of the "dry" times to explore the beach and enjoy nearby attractions such as the Hatfield Science Center, Yaquina Head Lighthouse and Nature Preservea with tidepools nearby, Mo's Chowder House, Seal Rock State Park and a glass blowing demonstration in Seal Rock. The beach house was just so comfortable and welcoming! And the great pricing what we needed. We used the patio BBQ and enjoyed home cooked steaks and chicken. We watched the weather regularly on TV, played Connect 4 (provided at home) and talked and laughed while listening to the soothing rain on the roof. Thank you Ingrid and Ralph for sharing your place. It gave us time to get to know even better our 12 year-old grandsons. Your help and immediate answers to questions beforehand were great. The JOY was in the JOURNEY not so much the desired sunny weather.

We had a family of 5 stay in this beach house for 1 week. It was so much more than we expected! Cozy, roomy & kid friendly. The house is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need & more. The beach is a 1 minute walk from the front door. Stores & laundermats within 15mins of travel. Friendly neighbors. This place is a hidden gem!

We stayed at this cozy house for 2009 New Years. We had the best time went to Newport and had a great dinner and went back a enjoyed the quit and warm fire. There was a big storm while there but had no problems getting in out out of the place. It was just so comfy that we only went to town to go to store then back to relax. Close walk to the beach so could go at anytime with out loading up the car. Everything we needed was there and that was great as well. Thank you for the great place to stay.
