Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 1977

Still together after 40 years of marriage, Ingrid Wendt and Ralph Salisbury are both widely published authors and teachers of creative writing at all grade levels, from kindergarten through graduate school MFA programs. They live full time in Eugene, OR, where Ralph has retired from the University of Oregon. Ingrid continues to accept invitations to visit public and private schools, teaching poetry writing to students AND their teachers, through inservice programs around the country and abroad. Both Ingrid and Ralph have been 3-time Fulbright professors in Germany. Please visit their websites: www.ingridwendt.com and www.ralphsalisbury.com

Why the Owner Chose Newport

We could have purchased something in Florence or Newport, but they don't have the same kind of beautiful beach we do: rocks and tidepools and almost no other humans, ever! Also, we have great ease of access: just a one-minute walk from our door, and no steep steps. And -- amazingly -- there are less rainy days at the coast in winter than we have back home in Eugene. Eating out is easy here, too: just a 15-minute drive either north or south takes us to lots of great restaurants.

The Unique Benefits of this House

Where else could we gather delicious mussels at low tide, almost all year long? Where else could we gather huckleberries in autumn, for pancakes and muffins? Even in storms, our house is cozy and warm, and well-stocked with environmental magazines, novels, poetry, puzzles, games, and nature guides: books on constellations, Oregon birds, coastal wildflowers, fish, trees, rocks, sea vegetables -- even seafood cookbooks. And, on clear nights, there's the milky way!

The house is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need & more. The beach is a 1 minute walk from the front door. Stores & laundermats within 15mins of travel. Friendly neighbors. • We stayed at this cozy house for 2009 New Years. We had the best time went to Newport and had a great dinner and went back a enjoyed the quit and warm fire. There was a big storm while there but had no problems getting in out out of the place. It was just so comfy that we only went to town to go to store then back to relax. Close walk to the beach so could go at anytime with out loading up the car. Everything we needed was there and that was great as well. Thank you for the great place to stay.

    • My husband and I stayed at this adorable and cozy cottage on the Oregon coast for our 14th anniversary this last weekend. We had a nice time walking down to the beach and watching the waves roll in. The drive to Newport is only a about ten minutes or so to the north and Waldport is about the same to the south, so the location is convenient. I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking to get away for a weekend or maybe even longer. We hope to bring the kids with us next time for a summer holiday next year. We look forward to it and can't wait to see the coast again.

    • This place is just perfect ti stay in! We were here from Aug 27th-Sept1st for our 2 year anniversary and we had the most amazing setting. The cool winds on the beach, CABLE TV (we don't have this at home), a nice warm cozy house to come home to. The whole time we were here, the locals thought we had just got together because we were constantly flirty and kissing...but you can help it because the amazing sounds and sights, just makes you want to cuddle with your partner. We will be back as soon as we can. We left a shovel for the next guests to try and beat our great sand castles! You will enjoy the great amenities this house offers from the quiet neighborhood, the VERY short distance to the beautiful Oregon beach, a fully loaded house with plenty of dishes, coat hangers, bedding, DVD and VCR player and the games. We did not a one dull minute there...so much fun! Trust me, I could write a novel about this place and Ingrid and Ralph are just the sweetest couple ever. They are so easy to get along with and they are so respectful, they make you feel like a part of the family and right at home. Hope to see you soon Seal Rock! ~Jessica and Allen~ Eugene, OR

    • Stayed here the first week of August. Wonderful location. Quiet beach with miles of sand, tidepools, and surf. Beach is two cabins down a very qiet road to the beach. Comfortable house with fully set up kitchen, two bedrooms, all the comforts of home, even a Scrabble game for those epic battles after the kids are in bed. Met a few locals on the beach who think that this is the best beach on the coast. We have to agree. We'll hopefully be back soon.

    • My son, d-i-l and I enjoyed a lovely four-day stay in this homey cabin and were happy to walk a wondrous beach and enjoy our favorite restaurant: Local Ocean Seafood, in Newport. PERFECT oysters! The household was very well equipped for all our needs and I'd recommend it to anyone who wishes to enjoy the area as we did.

    • We had a great time at this house. The house as nothing fancy, but was very clean and neat and well stocked and equipped. It was just a two minute walk to the beach, which was great. The owner was very thorough and helpful in making the arrangements as well. Over all a great experience!
