IL MULINO Torrigiani - Restored Olive Mill
IL MULINO is located in a lovely scenic hills about 12 kilometers from the most picturesque city of Lucca. The main apartment accommodates 5 people perfectly, with 2 double bedrooms, and a day bed in the living room.
Bedroom one has a full size double bed, bedroom two has 2 single beds that we specially designed to attach and become one large king size bed. There are 2 large full bathrooms with tiled shower rooms and modern plumbing.
The living room has a comfortable sofa, upholstered chairs and day bed, large flat-screen TV, DVD and satellite TV, there is an adjacent dining room and full kitchen.
The interiors have the restored with hand-made terra cotta floors and chestnut beamed ceilings, with charming antique furnishings and comfortable beds, all new plumbing, electrical systems and new appliances, including a laundry.
The MULINO rests on its own bridge, in its own valley, with a bubbling brook that runs beneath the house. There is a back area garden where one can wade in the brook and a waterfall up the trail behind the house that is fun to climb over to stand under and take a natural shower. In summer, it is 3-5 C. degrees cooler than the average temperature.
We have outdoor table, chairs and lounge chairs for relaxing in the areas next to the brook. The bridge in front is also a long terrace spanning the house with table and chairs, which enables you to dine outside.
The view in the front of the house is the brook and the church of Tofori which sits prominently on the hill in front of us. A short walk to the top of our driveway opens to a view of the olive groves, and vineyards. The village of Segromigno, about 3 kilometers down the hill, has all services such as a pharmacy, post office, supermarket, weekly and fruit/vegetable market.
We are on-site owners (English and Italian speaking) and live in an attached apartment for any needs you may have.
If you haven't visited the Lucca area, you will find it to be a pleasant surprise. There are classical music and highlights of the Puccini operas, every night in the church of San Giovanni, now converted to a concert hall. (All of this, because Lucca is the birthplace of opera composer, Giacomo Puccini.) Summer brings the music festivals with the famous stars such as Eric Clapton, Peter Gabriel, Elton John, to name a few, and of course, more Puccini opera.
IL MULINO is centrally located for convenient day trips to Lucca (15 minutes), Pisa and the sea-side beaches of Viareggio (40 minutes), Montecatini, the famous spa town,(20 minutes). We are about 45 minutes by car from Florence, or you can drive your car to a nearby train station and from there, it is a pleasant hour by train to the Florence station in the center of town, thereby avoiding traffic and parking problems. About an hour and 15 minutes from Siena and the Cinque Terre. There are several small lovely restaurants among the vineyards nearby for a relaxing dinner after a day's travels. |
