Our family had a wonderful time at this home! It was fun learning the history of Lummi Island and exploring the different beaches. Also had a great time hiking to Lummi Peak, it was well worth the hike, the views to the west were amazing! The house was very well furnished, with beautiful views, and right on the beach! The owner was available 24/7 if needed, which was very helpful.

We had an excellent stay for a week in the Oyster House with our two young kids. I'd highly recommend this place for a visit if you love islands and ocean views. We enjoyed hiking, biking and beachcombing all week. The home owner is very helpful. On a clear day, be sure to see the view from the top of Baker Trail. The San Juan Islands in the sun are spectacular.

We've visited this extraordinary property so many times it feels like our home away from home (I'm sure I've said that in some previous post) - but it's been almost a year this time since we've been (WAY too long!) And yet, the place welcomed us with as much peace and beauty and warmth, lovely design and good taste as ever (if not more!). The attention to detail here is just beyond compare. Sitting on the balcony at night and looking at the lights of Bellingham and listening to the waves lapping on the shore right beneath us, finally reading that book I've been trying to get to by the stone fireplace lovingly built by the owners themselves with stones from the beach right outside, following a sauna with a night-time shower upstairs with a view of the ferry crossing, grilling kabobs on the deck and waking up with an incredible sunrise out floor to ceiling bedroom windows - the experience is incomparable. It's always so incredibly hard to leave! Thank you once again, Chris and Nancy, for a slice of heaven on earth. Can't wait to visit again!

Relaxing week on the beach

Another fabulous week on the beach! Quiet, relaxing...the waves lapped, the water rippled...our granddaughter (10 years) spent the entire time on the beach catching crabs, admiring purple starfish, collecting shells and rocks. She was in heaven. So were we! Can't wait till next time.

We all had such a great time at this beautiful spot right on the water. We kayaked, hiked the preserves, relaxed, and sat on the balcony/porch as much as possible. The house was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Took some amazing pictures of sunrises and Mount Baker right from the porch, and the evenings were magical, liquid silver water with otters and eagles. Thank you! This is a trip we will always remember.

We just returned from four nights at Oyster House- it was our second stay and we were so grateful to visit this magical place again. Our original visit was a year and a half ago for our anniversary. As romantic a setting as Oyster House on Lummi Island is, my husband and I knew the next time we came back, we had to bring along friends to experience it with us. Well that's what we did, and they were not disappointed! No detail is left spared in the care of this amazing home. If I could own a vacation home- this is exactly what I'd want. It's classy, comfortable, charming, inviting- I could go on and on- it's utter perfection. AND THE LOCATION-THE VIEW! Truly incredible. We beach-combed for hours, saw bald-eagles right outside our window, spent a sunny day on the beach with public access by the Congregational church, bbq'd, cooked in the well-appointed kitchen, the list goes on. I could not recommend Oyster House more highly. We are already anticipating our third trip. Pictures do not do the home or the setting justice- you have to experience it yourself to believe it! Thank you, Chris and Nancy, for allowing others to share in this unbelievably special and refreshing place. And thank you (so much!) for keeping prices affordable as well. I hope Oyster House never becomes out of reach for us. Can't wait to be back yet again!

I just returned from my third stay at The Oyster House. A few girlfriends and I spend a girls weekend away each year and we have not wanted to go anywhere else but here. The house is beautiful, warm, inviting, clean and the views are unbelievable! The owners don't miss any detail, the kitchen is nicely stocked as well as a nice assortment of games and books. My two favorite places in the house are looking out of the master bedroom window at the amazing view and sitting in the comfortable leather chair in front of the fireplace with my book although I can't think of anyplace there that isn't great. I can't wait to plan the next girls weekend. Thanks so much Nancy and Chris!!

A Beautiful Stay

We stayed at the Oyster House for a week and enjoyed every minute. It was more than we expected. Thank you Chris for all your help and for sharing such a incredible home. My husband and I found it to be the most relaxing and refreshing vacation we have ever had. From the complete rainbow the first day we arrived, to the eagles, the playful sea otter, the birds, the crashing of the waves, the beautiful sunsets, the sauna and the view from the master bedroom, the week could not have been more complete. The home was very clean and neat and kitchen was well stocked. We felt right at home the minute we arrived at the top of the stairs. We can't wait to come back again. Hope to see you in the fall. Hope to do more exploring of the island next time.

After travelling more than halfway around the world (west to east) from Australia, we found this oasis of peace and tranquility. A few days here was just what was required to re-charge our batteries to enable us to complete our circuit of the globe. This was a beautiful place for rest and relaxation. Every amenity we could require was on hand (love the sauna). The furnishings were all top class, the bed was wonderful, and the view from the upstairs bedroom was amazing. The fireplace created a wonderful ambience and was just what was needed for a couple of cool-ish evenings. Next time we are in the north western part of the US we would definitely like to return to Oyster House.

My husband and I stayed at the Oyster House in early September for three nights and it was just not enough time!! We absolutely loved this home and could not have asked for a better vacation! Every detail is perfect and of the highest quality! We felt very at home here. Amazing views from every room, especially the deck and master bedroom. We enjoyed cooking some delicious fresh seafood as we listened to the tide come in and watched the beautiful sunsets. The firepit is also great to relax next to right along the water. Lummi is a very peaceful island and a great place to relax, we would highly recommend this home! Hope to visit again soon! Thank you so much for sharing your little piece of heaven with us!!

One of a Kind

Photos dont do justice to the natural beauty of this cabin. Expect stunning sunrises from the master bedroom. Impossible to get closer to the water. Perfect for exploring the Lummi Island coastline and enjoying the tidal basin. Cabin is in amazing condition, and clearly the work of a master builder. Owner has taken care of every detail and makes sure your stay is perfect in every way. Be sure to use the outside grill to cook up fresh salmon, followed by an evening down by the firepit as you listen to the tide come in and the crackling of a warm fire. Cant wait to bring the family again next year.

An immaculate house ideal for couples, family, and friends. A short drive from the ferry and yet you feel that you are completely alone with nature. It has every conceivable amenity. The views to the mainland are great. I went there with my older son to fish and get away from the East Coast. The owner made sure we had everything we needed. The owner apparently did all the work himself and the detail in the house is much better than my home. The photos do not accurately portray how wonderful the house is. I would recommend this house to anyone who wants to be close to civilization and far enough away to have a quiet secluded vacation. Finally, never hesitate to contact the owner--he will take care of your concerns, although I doubt that you will have any, immediately. Don't go anywhere else.

My family had a fantastic stay at the beach house. The house was very beautiful as well as clean and comfortable. We had a beautiful view of the beach. We witnessed so much wildlife from the huge windows on each floor. The kids had a great time hanging out on the beach all day and having a campfire on the pattio by the water. We will be back for another stay soon!

My wife and I were extremely fortunate enough to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary at the Oyster House. It was amazing how the short ferry ride to Lummi island brought you to the peaceful, relaxed Island and this beautiful getaway cabin footsteps from the water, although never too far from reality and the shopping (wife's idea). Eating breakfast on the deck in the morning with Mt.Baker as your back drop, strolling an amazing beach in the afternoon searching for sea life, sitting by the fire at night and then capping off the day with a relaxing sauna was the perfect way to spend the weekend. The pictures do not do the Oyster House justice and we look forward to returing next year for our second anniversary. Hopefully next time I can bring my fishing rod and go after those salmon that were jumping footsteps off the deck.

We just got back home from our fifth stay at the Oyster House and we're already booking our sixth! Every visit yields more peace and discovery than the one before, making us fall thoroughly in love over and over again with this extraordinary house and the island around it. We've visited Orcas Island many, many times and found one place or another to rent - always putting up with a shortage of creature comforts just to get near a beach... Well, while we still love Orcas Island, there is just no comparison to our experience staying at the Lummi Island Oyster House. As I mentioned in an earlier post from a prior visit, every detail of creature comfort has been considered and delivered upon - the decor and design sensibilities are so superior to any other rental we've ever come across that I find it miraculous the nightly rate isn't entirely out of our league! And that beach we were always trying to get near on Orcas Island? It's right at the doorstep of the Oyster House. Literally. Hikes in the Heritage Trust preserves and sunset walks along country roads under the watchful gaze of perched bald eagles give us adventure and the house gives us the kind of bone-deep serenity we constantly search for in our daily grind but rarely find. Starting each day with a poetic blast of sunrise over Mt. Baker - it doesn't get any better than that. This place stands apart in all aspects and if you have the chance to visit, you will be rewarded a hundred times over each minute of your stay by the gift of every last detail. Oh - and the view of Orcas Island shouldering ignited sunsets is phenomenal from the beach on the west shore of Lummi.

Never traveled to Lummi Island before; what a wonderful jewel we discovered. The Oyster House was everything we were promised and more! Attention to detail runs throughout the house; we have never stayed where you can look down into the ocean from the deck, it is just like staying on a boat with a fantastic view of Mt. ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS! I have rented many homes throughout the Pacific Northwest and The Oyster House is by far the best! My family loves visitng many times a year. The kids love the expansive beach, tide pools and the friendly deer on the beach. My favorite is the authentic Swedish Sauna; complete with hot rocks and wonderful cedar benches. Thanks for another memorable family holiday!

This is an incredible house! It feels like you are actually floating on the water! We were here on a rainy weekend in February and the place was cozy and perfect for our group. The house was immaculate and all the finishes are deluxe. The floors are gorgeous, the bathrooms are spacious and beautiful, the sauna is fabulous. Our group loves to cook and eat, and the kitchen was perfect. We'll be back! One note, the house really is right on the water, at the bottom of a LONG set of stairs which are at the bottom of a fairly steep hill. This was a little challenging for the seniors in our party, but since we really were not going anywhere it wasn't a big problem. Just something to keep in mind.

We just spent 3 days on Lummi Island at the Oyster House. This is the most amazing vacation home! The view itself is worth the entire price, stunning! The house is beautiful, amazing architecture, secluded setting beneath the forest canopy. We enjoyed beachcombing on the tidelands each morning finding clams, crabs, oysters, geoducks, jellyfish and beautiful seaglass. Fires on the beach each night, long walks..the couch was very comfortable and the TV's nice amentities but we didn't have time for either of them!!! We did enjoy the sauna, especially after our swim (yes we are crazy!!!) The house is nice enough to satisfy the most picky vacationer, while at the same time it does not feel stuffy and works well for more laid back travelers (like us!) There is an assortment of books, maps and kids toys. The beds are all very comfortable and the kitchen is nicely appointed. Take the ferry to Gooseberry Point, turn left at the casino and head to Barleans for a wonderful selection of seafood to cook at home. The Beach Store Cafe just across from the Ferry Dock has wonderful meals...don't miss it! Our family recommends this house to anyone desiring a relaxing getaway on the water!!!!

This incredible beach cottage transcended ALL our expectations. Not only is the location peaceful and idyllic - sitting right at water's edge with regular visits by the resident blue heron - but the decor is straight out of the pages of a Pottery Barn catalog! The perfectly appointed kitchen with every herb, spice, gadget and cooking utensil one could ever possibly need made preparing meals an absolute joy while we looked out over Hales Passage and a breath-taking, unobstructed view of Mt. Baker. The large upstairs master bedroom with its enormous windows facing water and sun-rise and its luxurious king-sized bed with down comforter might have tempted us to sleep in, but we wouldn't have wanted to miss reading in the beautiful leather chairs by the river-rock fireplace or taking a sauna or clam-digging or sipping wine sitting in Adirondack chairs beside the open fire pit on the stone patio right on the beach... At every single turn here, the experience is truly unforgettable. In fact, we love this spot so much, we've visited three times this year already and have just booked our fourth visit. We've even gone so far as borrowing ideas from some of the many beautiful interior touches for our own recently completed home remodel! This spot is truly a rare, rare find. An absolute gem.

This is a very special place. Located right on the water it is a very romantic and comfortable cabin. The setting is beautiful and the amenities are very nice. The beds and baths are outstanding. I would not hesitate to rent this cabin again.

The Oyster House is truly one of the best vacation homes we have ever stayed at. We thoroughly enjoyed all the small details and personal touches the owners have so carefully incorporated into the home. The real stone fire place and the natural cedar ceilings really made us feel like we were at an expensive retreat....only without the expensive part. The cedar sauna was exactly what we needed after digging clams and walking the beach all day. Barbequeing on the deck, which practically hangs right over the ocean, while watching the sky turn a beautiful shade of pink over Mount Baker was really tough to handle! Without a doubt, we will be back!

The Oyster House is an ideal getaway for a weekend, or a week...(or longer). Our stay was very relaxing in the middle of nature, but with all the amenities and more! We would be hard pressed to find a better view in the Pacific Northwest. This place is cheaper and more rewarding than professional therapy. We'll be booking again.

On arrival we were amazed by the gorgeous views and beautiful renovation of this lovely oceanfront house. There were lots of homey touches, like a tea selection and flour and sugar in the cupboard. Everything worked well and was meticulously clean and new. The gas fireplace kept us warm and the low tide beach walks were fascinating. I've stayed in many beach houses, and this one is highly recommended as luxurious and a great value. And the hosts are friendly and helpful!
