My husband and I arrived on the island and were at first a little skeptical- it was our fist time to Daufuskie. However, Jay made us feel at ease and was more than informative and helpful before we booked the cottage. We arrived on Daufuskie- after taking a private taxi- and the golf cart was awaiting us. Directions are posted on the golf cart to help you find your way to the cottage. We arrived at the cottage and it was more than cute. It had EVERYTHING that you need for your stay- laundry detergent, shampoos, soaps, utensils, pots, pans, trash bags, paper towels- EVERYTHING. We then were off to explore the island. We rode horses on the beach at the equestrian center and took in the special atmosphere that Daufuskie Island holds. I recommend visiting the community farm, talking to ALL the locals that you can, and exploring ALL of the island. We also recommend eating at Marshside Mammas. However, I would make a reservation. It is a hole in the wall with delicious food. The menu is written on a dry erase board and there is only one chef- so do not come hungry- you will have to wait before you eat- but the portions are ridiculously big. Eating there is an adventure and the sunset is beautiful. The beach on Daufuskie is amazing and you will feel as though you have your own private beach- very few people! We cannot stop talking about our little adventures that we had on the island. I highly recommend staying here at the cottage if you want a true getaway. You are in the middle of nowhere- and you can eat only what you bring- or buy at restaurants. The general store is very limited. Thank you Templeton family for a truly unique and special vacation. After we left Daufuskie we did the zipline tour on Hilton Head- which I highly recommend as well.

I arrived (with my dog) - got my golf cart (as the owner very graciously talked me through how to start it) - and headed to the cottage. The cottage is terrific- has everything you need. The owners have considerately and comfortably anticipated everything to help you be at home. I was by myself and I never had a bit of problem or worried about anything. We had a big storm that rolled through, and the power never flickered.

If you are looking for a secluded getaway, this cottage fits the bill. It's tucked away in the woods, but has all the modern amenities such as wireless internet and cable TV. And the free golf cart is a decided plus, given the cost to rent one separately. For us, though, there was a certain inconvenience. We didn't do our homework about the whereabouts of the wedding events we were attending, which turned out to be some distance away from the cottage, on the "developed" side of the island. This would have been only a minor issue, but there are a number of unpaved roads, and the golf cart apparently has some kind of governor on it that prevents it from going above a certain speed. It was glacially slow, and bumping over those dirt roads was almost painful at times. And it's REALLY dark riding through those woods at night! Overall, though, it was exactly as advertised. If we had been there on a family vacation, and not subject to scheduled events, I'm sure we would have experienced it differently. It was a lovely setting, and the house had everything you could want.d

I am a worrier and a planner by heart and this cottage and island were AMAZING! Daufuskie is truly an island to kick back, relax and let your cares slip away. Our trip to Daufuskie Island and Templeton's Cottage (the Treehouse we called it) was the first family vacation with our three year old. I was worried he would tire of going to the beach each day but I worried for nothing. Many thanks to Jay for his beach recommendations. The three of us were alone on the beach from morning to evening with a few passerby. We went at the beginning of sting ray season which meant we watched where we stepped and loved to observe! My son LOVED to sit in his daddy's lap while driving the golf cart! The golf cart was a HUGE feature and very helpful to get around the Island. The cottage is cozy while having room to spread out. It was clean, colorful, full of sunlight and exceeded my expectations. My son loved getting to sleep in a bunk bed and we were thankful for having a room next to his. Having a washer/dryer was phenomenal. We could limit the clothing we packed and bring a few extra beach toys for our kiddo. I do recommend getting acclimated to the location of the cottage before roaming at night. We saw other visitors get lost and had to be escorted home in the dark by local helpers. The only frustration we had was in no way related to the cottage, owners or the island but rather access to this island. At this time the main source of transportation to Daufuskie is the ferry. I recommend not making plans based on their on-line schedule or the schedule provided when you board. I recommend not being shy about confirming the schedule and be early to the ferry as we were told "Oh! I forgot about you! You're lucky you got here early because I was about to leave." We would have been stranded on Hilton Head with a few other Daufuskie residents that said this happens sometimes. The rule of thumb is to go with the flow and enjoy yourself. Daufuskie Island is an amazing place that I am so excited kept popping up in my vrbo search until I payed attention. Daufuskie is a gem of a place and The Treehouse as we called it was our home away from home. I would return to this cottage and the island in a heartbeat. The experience left an amazing impression on my son as well as my husband and myself. Many heartfelt thanks the the Templetons and their special home.

This place is perfect! The best place for the grandchildren to play outdoors without worring. They can run and scream to their hearts content (and they did). Only a short and beautiful ride to the beach where again they can be carefree and loud as they want. The cottage had everything you need and more. It was clean, comfortable with doors and windows looking out into trees everywhere. The owners were just a phone call away with answers to any questions we had and could not have been nicer or helpfull. Deafuskie Island is full of history waiting to be explored. It is full of friendly people just waiting to tell you a story or give you directions to a "you gotta see this" place. And one woman will sell and even cook you the best devil crab in the world. So to anybody who has never been, take my advise. You Have To Go !

We just left the cottage 3 days ago and we cannot stop talking about our perfect vacation! We fell in love with Daufuskie Island and the cottage the moment we arrived. The golf cart was waiting for us as soon as we stepped off our boat. The cottage had everything we needed and more. The little touches Jay and Amy thought of such as board games, DVD'S and bikes helped make the stay more enjoyable for all. The golf cart was perfect and we stayed on it the entire time exploring the island. Marshside Mama's, homemade deviled crab by Ella Mae and hunting for ghost crabs at night were just a few fun memories. We cannot wait to go back and stay at Templeton Cottage!

The listing and photos of the cottage were beyond accurate!! It was a perfect spot for a week's vacation. We have chosen Daufuskie Island, and this cottage, to be our #1 island get-away in the United States. It takes first place with Achill Island, off of the west coast of Ireland. If you want a peaceful, beautiful setting with wide open beaches and friendly residents, renting the cottage (which is like living in a well-maintained "Tree House"), and enjoying the island is the way to go. We'll definitely be back!! By the way, best deviled crab on the east coast, both at the Crab Company restaurant and Marshland Mamas!!

Just got back from a trip to this place. IT worked out exactly as I'd hoped. Cool, quirky cottage. Nice price (having the cart included is a big help). Neat, secluded location. Jay was quite helpful, going beyond the call of duty to answer questions, help us arrange transportation, etc.

We found this listing by chance, and we could not have been more satisfied with our new-found treasure! A big thanks to the owner, Jay, for answering all of our questons with great tips and advice. Our trip went SO smoothly, from the ferry ride over, the golf cart waiting for us, directions to the property, everything we needed during our stay, to a beautiful beach and a fun island to explore! We had a blast and would strongly recommend staying at this fabulous Daufuskie cottage!

We had a fabulous vacation at the Templeton House.... I had never been to Daufuskie before and I am glad we did not stay anywhere else... My grandkids loved everything , the house came fully equipped .... The deer, ghost crabs, fox squirrels and alligator oh my gosh.... We would go out looking for these animals at dawn and night... One could not ask for anything by staying at the Templeton House. All we had to do was bring a few clothes and food.... Everything else was included... I am turning the big 60 next year and after thinkging about Rhode Island, New York and Alaska.... I have determined we are going to the Templeton House in Daufuskie Island. The people are great, and so are the locals.. I am including friends and family.... In fact, we have also considered going this fall, that is how much and charming the Templeton House was. Thanks Jay, for the hospitality... Willl be speaking with you soon.and looking forward to the future trips. Shelley Sapp and Family...

Jay & Amy, thanks so much for having this great place available for others! I can honestly say that was the funnest week of vacation our family has ever had. Being on Daufuskie is just so relaxing & there is everything we like to do in relation to water. Fish ,crab, swim at pool or beach, skiing,(when my boat cranks) cruise in the golf cart, then eat your catch of the day. Access to the resort as well what a blast !! The house is great & bigger than it looks in the pic's. Looking forward to the next visit. David, Beth, Dathan, Dustyn & Tabitha. David Scoggin, Wilmington Island, GA

This cottage offers all you need to stay on historical Daufuskie Island. The Templetons have created a wonderful cottage stocked with everything you will need to enjoy your stay. The cottage is cozy, comfortable, and filled with lots of windows to view this incredible place. I have already rented twice and planning to return in September. I would recommend this cottage to anyone who wants to explore an island from a golf cart and fantastic accomodations.

If you are looking for a quiet, off the beaten path kind of adventure, this is your place. Daufuskie is a one of a kind experience and this cottage was the perfect spot to stay on the island. It had everything we needed and the use of the golf cart got us all over the island. This cottage is perfect for a weekend getaway and its close to all the amenities and the beach. We will definitely be back very soon! Two thumbs up for this rental!
