My wife and I rented this house in August. Were were OK without AC. We really appreciated the parking spot right next to the front door. Easy to unload and load the car. We were surprised to actually be staying right at the beach. We thought we would have a further walk to it or even drive to it. Having a kitchen is a must and this was a nice one. We will be back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We thoroughly enjoyed our Christmas stay at Mehina Mele. From the perfect directions to get to it from the airport and throughout our entire stay we found it exactly as described and pictured. We spent much of our time in the house on the covered lanai off the kitchen enjoying the ocean view (including sunsets) while sipping our Kona coffee. Despite some close neighbors it has a very private feel. We made it over to Kahaluu Beach every day but one for some wonderful snorkeling. Our only (minor) problem was quickly resolved. Mehina Mele is a perfect getaway for two and will be our first choice next time we have a trip with just the two of us.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.

The Mehina Mele was the perfect place to stay! We introduced our children to Hawaii and this was the perfect house to do so. The house has a kitchen, so with 2 children this was a necessary amenity. Each morning we would have breakfast on the lanai overlooking the beach watching the waves crash. This was so exciting for my son and peaceful for us. We were able to continue to utilize the kitchen for lunches and snacks. Not going out to eat all the time or waiting for room service was essential since we brought our children. Even though we had our children with us, the house is very romantic. Each floor has a balcony with a view of the ocean and comfortable beds to sleep in. A pack n play was also provided for our 6 month old baby. We didn't have to worry about packing or buying beach towels as they are provided for you. This left me more room in my suitcases for souvenirs! The best snorkling beach is just steps away (across the street)! You can swim with the sea turtles and see beautiful fish at Kahaluu Beach. The house is perfectly located to downtown (just 4 miles) from all of the shops and restaurants. So if you are in the mood for a vigorous morning walk, you can walk to town as I did and get your famous Kona Coffee. I felt inspired as I was walking to town on Alii Dr. because this is the same road that the Iron Man takes place. We stayed at the house for 11 days so this truly became a home away from home!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with young children.

As soon as we pulled up to the Mehina Mele, we felt the Aloha spirit. The painted surfboard was our first indication! We felt like we were at our own home with the fully equipped updated kitchen ~ just like the photos show. During the day we enjoyed our walks going south toward the Kona Country Club or heading north toward the quaint town of Kailua Kona. We loved having the convenience of walking across the street for our water, surfing, snorkeling or snow cone fix at Kahaluu Beach. Our evening activities always started with having our pupp's (appetizers) out on the covered deck as we watched the most incredible sunsets in the world. Having internet access was wonderful but we tried to stay in the promoted relax Aloha spirit.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

I loved the location and the idea that this is an historical Hawaiian site. The convenience of this location gave us access to many local activities and this was certainly a plus. The view of the ocean and the peaceful sound of the waves was certainly good for the much needed rest and relaxation. The charming structure,St. Peter's church, was another delightful picture in this lovely ocean view. Thank you for your hospitality and for keeping your vacation home so clean, but comfortable at the same time. I really liked that this 2 level home lendt privacy when needed. We look forward to our next visit.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Enjoyed the unobstructed ocean and sunset views from this Hawaiian style home. We spent our breakfast and dinner meals on this fabulous 1500 sq ft deck over looking the ocean. This is a great home for extended family gatherings. Nicely appointed, clean and well kept, reasonable priced and well stocked for vacationers. Kahaluu snorkeling beach is near by and Keahou shopping center is 1 mile. We usually walk to town,Kailua Kona, 5 mile walk and have lunch (Calamari sandwich) at the Kona Inn. delicious. We would love to come again next year, same time same place.. Thanks for your hospitality and sharing your wonderful Hawaiian style home.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This beach house is so well priced for what we got. This house has great upkeep, comfortable furnishings. 3 couples and a few kids was a good fit. It was nice to be near the beach with sand on this lava rock island. We definitely will be back to this house.Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with teenagers, families with young children.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1992
About the owner: We take excellent care of this beach house. We own a few other vacation rentals in Santa Cruz CA and Port Aransas TX that are also ocean front.
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes:
My family was able to purchase this beach lot on the early 80's. We were fortunate enough to build a house on it in the early 90's. We decided to make it a vacation rental as it is zoned hotel.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
I enjoy going outrigger Canoeing at Keauhou Canoe Club. Visitors are welcome. Snorkeling or taking a surf lesson across the street at Kahaluu beach is enjoyable. Golfing on a beautiful affordable Kona Country Club 1 mile south is enjoyable.
