  We really enjoyed our stay in John and Susan's cozy two bedroom apt. It's in a great location, and even my 88 year old dad and 83 year old mom were able to walk into town for dinner. The full kitchen was really nice, and the little outdoor patio area was great for enjoying a glass of wine in the evening. We would definitely stay there again.

  My son and I loved the 2 bedroom apartment- clean and with plenty of space and little amenities, like the coffee and tea. Gave us all the room we wanted with the great location to take advantage of all the area had to offer at a great price. And John was very laid back and a perfect host.

  We just finished a week's stay and it was just as good as our first time here a year ago! Very quiet, clean and comfortable location. Easy to access surrounding areas and the owners are more than wonderful! We love being able to cook our own meals in the kitchen and the washer and dryer for our laundry is a huge plus! This place sets the bar for any future rentals we will look into at VRBO. While in Santa Ynez, we won't stay anywhere else.

  My husband and I stayed here with another couple and we found the apartment to have plenty of room. Originally when looking at the photos online we thought that the apartment was upstairs from another apartment, but we were happy to learn that it was actually over a detached garage. Also, we felt that the place was much more polished that what the photos showed (a nice surprise). Finally we were thankful that the kitchen was well stocked with basics like spices, flour, sugar, and olive oil. The only things missing that we could have used was a mixing bowl, cinnamon, and a casserole dish. We will defiantly be back.

  My wife and I were kidless for the Thanksgiving weekend so we snuck away to Santa Ynez for wine-tasting, hiking, sleeping, and eating. Our stay at Shady Oak was perfect. We met John upon arriving and took care of some business. Then we enjoyed the quiet, clean apartment. Everything we needed was there, including a fully stocked kitchen for cooking. It also had a full washer and dryer, movies, books, and games for kids and adults. It was perfectly situated in Santa Ynez, a quick walk into downtown. We also were only 10 minutes away from Los Olivos and Solvang, so it was easy to get to all of our destinations. We would definitely stay again!

  What a welcoming comfortable stay! Santa Ynez and Solvang are a great place to unwind with wine, great scenery, and it is very easy to get around. The property fit our group perfectly. The apartment was spotless, very clean and attractively decorated with a gas fireplace and beautiful mantle. There is a fully equipped modern kitchen,(along with an outdoor gas grill if you are so inclined); two seperate bedrooms with plenty of closet space and comfy queen beds. There is a complimentary washer and dryer available in the unit for any laundry needs. I would definitely stay again when my travels bring me back. Sue And John are great hosts.

  Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

  My husband and I recently visited Santa Ynez for a wedding and didn't want to stay in a hotel so I looked around and found this wonderful apartment. There are two bedrooms with comfortable beds, a good size kitchen and living room and all the emenities you would find in a hotel plus more. Since the apartment is above the garage, you don't share a wall with anyone so it's really quiet. There are a ton of towels, blankets, the kitchen is well stocked so you can cook, cable television, a non-gas fire place, movies, books, games and you feel right at home. The owner is really nice. We forgot our razor and he sent it back to us right away. Staying here was SOOOO much better than a hotel. Please give it a try - you'll be happy you did! We can wait to go back!

  Great space. Super friendly, close to town. Offered us everything we needed and at a great price. Had an amazing time and so very comfortable in the space!

  Stayed for two nights with my wife and nine-month-old baby and had a wonderful stay. Very clean, well set up, close to downtown Santa Ynez. Very friendly and accommodating owners. And very affordable for everything you get. We'll definitely stay here again when we come back to the area!

  A very lovely place to stay in the Los Olivos area! The apartment was very nice, comfortable, clean and centrally located to wine tasting and dining around the Santa Ynez Valley. The owner, John, was prompt in returning my call inquiring about the unit and very friendly. He even brought us freshly picked plums during our stay. I have stayed at many hotels in the area over the years and will stay here from now on! For the same price as a not-so-great hotel, you get a really nice 2 bedroom apartment - can't beat that! Was very nice to have driveway parking, as well. The only slight negative is the traffic noise during the night, as I like to sleep with the window open. But I just closed the window and turned up the ceiling fan and was fine. We'll definitely return to Shady Oak!
