Our 6 families normally vacation at Elkmont Campgrounds, but this year, due to some family health issues, decided to also rent a cabin for the overnights. Our 'ideal' plan was to stay at the campground during the day, sightsee and allow the kids to play at the campsite, and then return to the cabin to sleep and for breakfast each morning, where we would also make plans for each day. As things turned out, several of our outings were cancelled due to rain! and LOTS of it! We were extremely thankful to have a dry place to go. The cabin gave us a place to stay dry and still enjoy our vacation. There was a very nice spacious kitchen used to cook meals. Lots of room to play games. And plenty of bedrooms for sleeping. These were ample sized, and there were enough of them to accommodate our families. There were enough electronics (but not too many) to keep the kids and adults entertained (i.e. satellite cable). We were especially appreciative of the wrap around porch! It gave us plenty of room to be outside, and even to enjoy the rain and still stay dry. The cabin is on a dead end mountain road, but secluded enough that neighbors/other rentals were not a problem at all. We vacationed the week after the 4th of July, so the temperatures were warm but not too warm, with evenings enjoyable, with breezes blowing 'just enough'. The location was ideal, in that we were able to get to the campground, stores, and Pigeon Forge without too much trouble or spending too much time driving to our destination, although driving through the Smokies IS one of the most enjoyable things to do!Recommended for: People with disabilities, sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

Cabin was very clean, organized, equipped, roomy, and comfortable. Heating system in Febuary was fantastic with uniform warmth and no cold spots. We (two grandparents, two grandkids, two daughters, and one son-in-law) want to come back again soon. Access is easy with plenty of parking. Close to Pigeon Forge for shopping and Cades Cove for sightseeing.Recommended for: People with disabilities, sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

In numerous cabin rentals, I have never dealt with an owner who was as organized and on-the-ball as Tracie! Working with her was SUCH a great experience! The cabin itself was absolutely amazing - much more spacious than we imagined. The bedrooms were HUGE and the kitchen had plenty of space and appropriate cooking supplies for our large group. We also loved how organized everything was - even lightswitches and kitchen drawers were labeled! Our group normally stays in a different location each year, but we were unanimous in wanting to return to this cabin again next year - and maybe every year!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

What a fantastic home and accomodating owners! Our large group of family and friends were needing a place for a weekend getaway to both Townsend and the National Park and T.Gate was the perfect fit. The kitchen was big (like everything else) and very well-stocked. We spent hours reminiscing in rocking chairs on the wrap-around porch. The kids had a ping pong marathon and each got their choice of bedrooms downstairs. Thanks so much - we hope to come back next year!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/4

What an incredible experience! This is a warm comfortable cabin that reflects its name well. Sitting on the porch and watching the mist rolling in the valley calmed our spirits and refreshed us. Everything we needed was available and the convenient location was very nice. Our children loved having the game room to be away from the adults. Well worth the drive . We want to go back soon.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 5/5

We of the Martin Family met together once again at Tranquility Gate and spent the Labor Day weekend unwinding and renewing our family ties. We truely love this place. For us it will always be a place of fond memories. We come together twice a year and this time we never left the cabin the whole time. We have skits, board games and our Sunday morning service. Not to mention the good food we enjoy. Laughter is heard drifting down from the front porch to those below. We have such a good time of fellowship together. It is always sad to see the last car pulling out of the driveway. We have already booked our dates for 2009 and we're looking forward to more wonderful memories.Did you find this review helpful? Tranquility-the very name captures the essence of a visit to this mountainous paradise. For years we have shared retreats, family vacations or short get-aways to this relaxing and refreshing escape. Roomy enough for group gatherings but with plenty of individual space, we have enjoyed special times of fellowship with one another and the Lord. Physically-restful, Emotionally-calming, Soul-soothing, Spiritually-renewing! Top notch in every way!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Sehoy and I have been leading annual retreats for nearly 10 years at Tranquility Gate. The peace, grace, beauty, and solitude could not be any greater. Our times here have been remarkable. Each year we have hosted 12 to 14 people and without exception each person was truly blessed. You have the privacy and quiet longed for as well as many activities nearby. I love to hike and Sehoy likes to shop. So we are both in heaven when staying at Tranquility Gate. We could not give a higer recommedation to any place we have ever done retreats. Please come. Avail yourself to this slice of heaven on earth. Steve and Sehoy Meeks Senior Pastor Calvary Community Church, HoustonDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1999
About the owner: We are Steve and Tracie Silkwood and we have 5 children, almost all grown now. We live in Houston, Texas and attend Calvary Community Church.
Why the Owner Chose Wears Valley:
We found Tranquility Gate in October of 1998 while on a retreat with several other couples from Texas. The vision for the cabin is for couples, families and businessmen to have a place where they can 'retreat' and find a time of rest and rejuvenation from the business of this world.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Our cabin is very spacious allowing folks to spread out either inside or on the wrap around porch. There are plenty of bathrooms as well!
