Amsterdam is a safe environment where by now English is the second language. When asked most people will be helpfull in providing directions.
The apartment has two bedrooms. The big room with a King-size bed and the other room has two separate normal beds that can be put together. As we do not have very hot summers with high humidity,
an airconditioning system is not nessecary.
The apartment is one of two luxury apartments which are identical in size and style.
The only difference are the colors. The apartment on the first floor, is called 'The Royal Orange' Apartment.
The other one is called 'The Delfts Blue Apartment'.
Both apartments have each four beds and are decorated very tastefully and with respect for the historical background of the house, by famous Dutch home designer: Edward van Vliet.
They can be rented seperately or together.
The character of the house is defined by the famous Dutch Golden Age Admiral 'Michiel Adriaanszoon de Ruyter'.
His cunning seamanship combined with excellent military leadership made him the most succesfull defender of Dutch merchants sailing the world seas.
Admiral Michiel de Ruyter once was the owner if this beautifully, restored house. It is located along the IJ-harbour where the proud ocean traveling vessels were ancored while preparing for their next voyage to the Indies.
We have tried to preserve the unique historical character of the building while calling out the rich history of its most famous first owner 'Admiral Michiel Adriaanszoon de Ruyter'.
We do hope to see you here and wish you already a most pleasant stay at the 'MICHIEL DE RUYTER HOUSE'.
Important: we ask for a Euro 400.00 deposit in cash upon arrival which will be refunded prior to your departure, minus the cleaning fee of Euro 65.00 .

We visited Amsterdam in April 2009 and stayed in this apartment, there were 4 adults in our group and all of us loved staying here. The views of the harbour are fantastic and the location of the apartment is ideal, it is only a short walk from Central Station and is within easy walking distance of Dam Square and the Red Light District. The apartment is very well equipped and was spotlessly clean. The owner/manager was very helpful and even offered us a place to store our luggage on the last day of our stay (we had an evening flight and obviously didn't want to carry it with us all day after vacating the apartment). We were concerned about having to leave a cash security deposit but need not have been as there were no problems with this being returned to us at the end of our stay. I would defiantely book this apartment again and would highly recommend it.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, age 55+.
Owner response: Dear Oli, Louise, Lee & Cassie, It is always nice to hear that guests have had such great time in one of our apartments. Your review is an encouragement for us to keep doing our best to make sure that people like you have a great experience. Thank you, and hopefully we can welcome you again in Amsterdam.

Nice apartment up 2 flights; poorly equipped and maintained; owner hard to find. Nice view and location. Noisy because it is on a major street on one side, quiet canal on the other. We were 4 older women--not the place for us!Recommended for: Families with young children.

This apartment was very conveniently located and well equipped. It was as advertised, convenient for a family. The manager was very friendly and professional. The only problems were: being on a rather busy, noisy street (Not recommended for light sleepers); having no freezer in the included refrigerator (only noted after buying ice cream at the supermarket!); having to supply your own toilet paper!, and seeing a small rat or large mouse run through the living room late one night!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with young children, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Hello Jerry, thank you for your positiv review. To to make the experience for our guests even better we have now isolation glass in the windows, in order to keep the street sounds outside. We have had very positiv respons from many guestst so far. We hope we can have you as our guests again in our beautiful 'Michiel de Ruyter House' in the Heart of Amsterdam.

About the owner: The owner on a bike with his 10 months old son.
Why the Owner Chose Amsterdam:
The very best location in Amsterdam regarding position, close to Central Station, on walking distance of the Dam, Nieuwmarkt, Leidse Plein, Rembrandtsplein, the great Museums, the Jordaan, The Anne Frank House, Vondelpark, Artis (the Zoo), restaurants, pubs, coffeeshops, great shoppingstreets, bike rentals, boattours and many more things.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
You will stay in a a historical buildings that was erected in the 'Golden Age' the 17th century.
In that period Amsterdam became the leading trade capital in the world, and the most famous Admiral in Dutch naval history was the owner of this eye catching and beautifull building.
We have renovated the house with respect for it's history, but very tastefully and with the best materials. The views over the old harbour, and (as we are on a corner), on a typical Amsterdam canal are breathtaking, as if you are sitting in front of a constantly changing painting. Furthermore, you can enjoy a good kitchen, bathroom, new beds and matrasses and more.
Most important, you will stay in a clean and fresh apartment!
