On this old mule breeding farm, La P'tite Boulangerie, completely renovated in the first half of 2007, is a gorgeous stand-alone cottage situated opposite two more one, double-bedroom, gites. Les Ecuries are single story semi-detached cottages converted from the old stables.
La P'tite Boulangerie is a cute little cottage on two floors with wood featured throughout, a double bedroom and shower room upstairs, and the open-plan ground floor has a full kitchen, dining area and living area with sofa-bed, two rocking chairs, the original bread oven and a wood burning stove. There is also an extra folding bed for a child stored in the bedroom.
The gites share a laundry room, an enclosed grassed courtyard and a covered area where you find the ping-pong table and dart board. Behind the stables, in it's own sunny fenced garden, is the 10m x 5m swimming-pool. Booked all together, the gites can sleep 13 people.
La Charronniere is a tiny hamlet 2 miles from the market town of Chaunay which is situated on the N10 between Poitiers and Angouleme. Chaunay has a market on Monday mornings, two bakeries, a hotel/restaurant and a range of other shops for your day-to-day requirements. Larger supermarkets are not far away. The large general market in Lezay on Tuesday mornings is approx. 15 minutes' drive. This is rural, agricultural France - la vrai France profonde!
The famous Futuroscope theme park just outside Poitiers is approximately 40 minutes' drive from La Charronniere on the N10 dual carriageway. La Vallee des Singes is a monkey sanctuary that all our guests have enjoyed visiting no matter how old they are. La Charronniere is on the border of Vienne and Deux Sevres and not far from Charente, so visitors have a wealth of attractions and towns to visit not so far away. La Rochelle with it's walled town, lovely old port, seafood restaurants and seaside is one of our favorite places, just over an hour away. Cognac is a lovely town in it's own right, but you should also visit at least one of the brandy distilleries for their very informative tours and tastings.
There are also many small market towns nearby as well as bric-a-brac sales in the summer months. The local Christmas markets are also fun to visit. The countryside is very gently undulating with wide views and plenty of wild birds and animals to spot along the way. A brand new shopping mall has just opened (October 2007) on the N10 just south of Poitiers if you are looking for a huge supermarket, various other shopping opportunities and restaurants. |
