Totally renovated Gambrel charmer with 7 bedrooms (4 queen beds, 5 twins), fully equipped gourmet kitchen, 2 master bedroom ''suites'', new custom master bathroom with stacked washer/dryer, second set of washer/dryers in basement; cable TV and fast internet; great front and side porches and gas grill for entertaining, outdoor shower, nice yard; directly across from 50 acres of open space, 8-10 minute walk to center of town, minutes to supermarket and most beaches. Close to Surfside bike path. All linens and beach supplies included. Bring yourselves - the rest is waiting for you.
Eco-friendly features include: Central location so that walking to town is easy (10 minute walk); Bike paths within 2 minutes of house - Walk or bike ride to Surfside beach on pedestrian friendly bike path in 15-30 minutes (walking); Bus stop two minutes walking from house up street by Old Windmill; Recycling of all household waste to local landfill (required).
Enrolled in GreenUp service from National Grid (electric utility). GreenUp service is a choice to purchase alternate renewable sources for electrical generation – in this case 30% wind and 70% small hydro power; Planted 65 shrubs, grasses and bushes and 1 pear tree in fall of 2007.
Converted majority of interior and exterior lighting to CFL bulbs (compact fluorescents lighting); Used recycled denim insulation in accessible areas of basement and insulated all basement hot water pipes. Reduced use of air conditioners and provided smaller fans for each room. Note: due to wind and airflow conditions for this property near the old mill, true conventional air conditioning is needed on less than 5 really hot days spread over the entire summer. Recommend visiting beach if there on one of those days.
Provided an outdoor clothes line for drying beach towels (at your option). Installed native landscaping where possible to reduce water usage but maintain vegetation. Installed Energy Star certified appliances in newly renovated kitchen, stacked washer/dryer. Light timers in utility areas such as basement to conserve on electricity. Used low VOC green paint in many areas of dwelling. Use of organic and natural cleaning products, soaps, etc.
Abundant natural lighting (lots of windows) and natural fiber shades for keeping cool; Dual flush toilets and "Low flow" Delta brand showerheads to save on water and energy usage AND…. We purchased a Toyota Highlander hybrid – 2006! But we like to run, bike and surf more…..we hope you will too. Surfboards provided!

Why the Owner Chose Nantucket
My family has been coming to Nantucket since 1973. My parents have lived on island full time for 25 years. I bought a home next to the one I first stayed in in 1973! Karma.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Great family space. Well lit, open, spacious. Across from open space, bike paths to everywhere, 10 minute walk to town. Great front and side porches. Wiffle ball in back yard a must!
Bike path goes to Surfside path and others. 100 acres of open space land abuts this path and is directly across street from 62 Prospect Street. 10 minute walk to Main Street.
Great family beach with snackbar, facilities, casual restaurant, calm water, boat and windsurfer rentals. Great annual sand castle competition.
2.75 miles by bike to beach, snack stand. Great for runners, rollerbladers, bikers, walkers, kids.
This is where the best surfing is. Ask for Gary Kohner and take a lesson.
About 6 or so miles from town to Madaket Beach. Great for biking, walking, running, etc.
Best fishing spot on East Coast for Bluefish. Need 4 WD vehicle. Park Service does great tours out here to lighthouse.
17 mile round trip loop on this bikepath. Sconset is historic area with amenities - food, lunch, beach. Must see. Walk along the bluff path.
Quaint, historic, calm. Try the Summer House for dinner (not great for kids). Walk the bluff path. Beach is very nice. Can go by bike or bus. Good bus service in season.
Rent a boat at Jetties Beach. Protected and good wind for sailers. Great for kayaking too.
Great family beach, good for teens, snack bar, parking, waves. Not a good surf beach.
Come bring the kids and check out the "green home" project - under construction Spring 09 to Summer 2010.
Best star gazing you have ever seen. Scientist doing tours is very knowledgable. Must see for the kids and adults. Great thing for teens - they love this.
The oldest house (my parents live next door). Walk through the back open space land to the best sandwich place on island (Something Natural). Tour the house itself.
All these dirt roads and paths are a mountain bikers dream. Good for runners too.
Lots of locals and families go here. Can get crowded. Good parking. Harder to find but nice. Calm water.
Sssshhh. Although it is well traveled and well known, we don't tell many people about it. Great for nighttime excursions too, stargazing, skinny dipping (look for phosphorescence in August). Great
Go to Jetties Beach, turn right on sand and walk 200 yards to rent sailboats, windsurfers. Calm water. Great sandcastle contest in summer - must see.
Owner's Map of Nantucket
I lived full time on Nantucket from 2001 to 2008 and now split time between Nantucket and Vermont. Working in the solar business (see picture) and enjoying helping people with alternative energy solutions. Started a non-profit website, The Nantucket Reuse Exchange - check it out! Nantucket's own "craigslist". Have a great time in this home.
