Our beach front home in Miller Beach is the perfect vacation spot for the family with close access to shopping, dining, train to Chicago, and of course, the beach! There are great dates available for the remaining fall, and winter months.

Sit back and unwind in this splendid 1930's beach cottage house. The home was recently renovated with the wonderful details of yesteryear preserved and all of the modern amenities of today added. While it may feel far away from the city, the house is only one hour by car or train from all that downtown Chicago has to offer. The cottage consists of three levels with outdoor space on each.

The lower-level is a walk out 1 bedroom apartment that includes its own kitchen, living/dining room, bedroom with queen sized bed and subway tiled bath with shower. This level provides the perfect amount of privacy from the rest of the house.

The main level of the house includes a wonderful living room with a large original stone fireplace, painted beam ceiling, and a wall of windows facing the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan. There is also a large dining room with an antique farm table and chairs- plenty of room for large family dinners. The kitchen features a farm sink, tiled back splash, and period-styled cabinets and lighting. The large deck provides a full view of the lake, Chicago skyline and beautiful sunsets. It includes a cushioned chairs and love seat. There is also an outdoor grill and heater for those chilling evenings.

Upstairs on the top floor there are two bedrooms. One bedroom has a king-sized bed and a private balcony facing the beach (great for sunsets and morning coffee). The second bedroom has twin sized beds (they can be combined to make a king size bed, if needed). The white subway tiled bathroom that separates the bedrooms includes a tub with shower.

The deep sandy beach is one of the most beautiful in Indiana with no erosion or man-made storm walls, only well-established dunes with dune grass, wild dune cherry bushes and cottonwood trees. This wildlife preserve boasts one of the greatest levels of plant and animal biodiversity in the northern hemisphere. It is surrounded by Indiana Dunes State and National Park, biking trails. There are a number of casual and fine restaurants in the area. An IMAX theater, water park, outlet mall, and petting zoo are all within a short drive.

A great week at the beach!

This vacation home is absolutely wonderful. Love the extra space downstairs. Renting from a home owner vs. a rental agency always brings extra amenities and this home was even more than we expected. The view is great and the walk over the dunes is effortless. We loved the fire pit by the lake. The icing on the cake was how easy it was to work with David for the rental. I will not hesitate to rent this home in the future. I hope to get there for a week next summer.

This house is beautiful, comfortable, and well-equipped. Our favourite evening was out on the ridge going down towards the beach where there is a fire pit, roasting hot dogs and marshmallows with some friends and their children while we watched the sun set. (Typically, we found some perfect extending roasting sticks in the kitchen.) Other high points were waking in the morning to see, from the balcony on successive mornings, a peregrin falcon chasing a Jaeger; two heron on the beach; and a doe with two fauns. Lots of humming bird fights, too. My big regret was not bringing my wild flower book along -- I grew up on Miller beach, but there were so many flowers that I couldn't identify back in what is now the National Lakeshore Park. I can also confirm that when we needed to get in touch with the owners at 5 am (for reasons that were totally our fault) they were very good-humoured about it!

Owner response:Thanks Penny! We are so happy that you and your family had a great time at our home while you were back on this side of the "pond". No worries about the phone call that morning, I was glad I could help you. Safe travels and come back anytime.

Wonderful home!

Our family had a wonderful stay at this home. The main level and master bedroom deck have spectacular views of the lake, and the home is very well maintained. We were extremely impressed by how well equipped the house was (towels, kitchen appliances, dishes, etc.). The beach is just steps away, and was also impressive. We had never been to Lake Michigan or Miller Beach before, and were pleased to see how safe and clean it was. Though there is public access nearby, the beach in front of the house was never overcrowded. We always had plenty of room for our beach canopy and a game of wiffle ball. We will definitely return, and I'd recommend this house for anyone looking for a relaxing beach vacation!

Owner response:Thank you so much for the review. We have worked really hard to make sure that each guest has everything they need for their stay. We look forward to having you come back to Miller Beach and staying in our home.

I have only the exact same wonderful things to say that all the other commenters have said - this is a beautiful home on a beautiful beach and fantastically child/family friendly. We had an exquisite vacation and very much hope to stay here again. In fact, I think the only original things I will be able to add to the unanimous raves above are how easy the house is to get to (we spent longer packing the car than we did driving - and we hit traffic!), and to say that the pictures shown don't do the house justice - believe it or not, the house is even prettier than it looks here!

If you are looking for a zen-like retreat, you MUST spend a weekend at this house!!! I spent three days there in mid-March with my two best friends and we were in heaven! The truth is that I would have been completely content simply staying in the home the entire time. Their adorable kitchen is perfect for preparing meals. Their dinning table is ideal for family-style eating. The furnishings are wonderful and comfortable. The views are remarkable and you are feet away from the beach. You truly feel like you are at a resort. I thank the owners, David and Lee, for opening up their beautiful home to my firends and I. I encourage you to relax at the home soon and often! :)

Owner response:Thanks so much for the kind words. I often tell people who are inquiring, that the house is just as wonderful to visit in the winter time. Your comments help get that point across.

This house is terrific! The owners did a wonderful job of decorating and remodeling. We had two couples staying upstairs and another couple downstairs with their 4 month old and it was perfect for all. It was really ideal for my niece and nephew to have the downstairs apartment privacy with the baby. The views from the both decks and the downstairs apartment are wonderful. The furnishings are very comfortable! We highly recommend this. We have family in the area and they were all equally impressed with what a super job the owners did on this house! Our whole family had a wonderful time. The weather was perfect and we got some great sunset pictures.

Owner response:Terry, Thank you for the wonderful comments. We are so happy that you and your family were comfortable and enjoyed our home. Remember those wonderful sunsets until you can come back for your next visit.

We grew up on Miller Beach and returned for a class reunion and our 40th wedding anniversary with our son, daughter-in-law, 3 year old grandson, Ben, and his maternal grandparents. Ben was the 6th generation of our family to play on Miller Beach starting with Great-great grandparents in 1922. This home is wonderful! The location is perfect for privacy on the beach, beautifully remodeled with a well-appointed gourmet kitchen, super layout for 6 adults and children and great panoramic views of the lake and Chicago skyline from the deck. The beach and lake water are clean and clear and mere steps from the deck and patio. It doesn't get any better than this! We shall return!!

Owner response:Nora and Steve, We are so happy to have helped your family create wonderful memories of another summer in Miller Beach. We look forward to hosting you again.

My family and guests had a wonderful time at this vacation home. We intend to return and highly recommend it to others. The location is excellent for lakefront living. The views of the dunes and lake are gorgeous from both porches. Sunsets were spectacular from both the private dune and the beach. Our toddler spent countless happy hours puttering on the beach and wading in the shallows. The house itself is spacious, peaceful, and lovely, yet also _very_ child-friendly. It's been nicely rehabbed but retains the character of the neighborhood. The kitchen is well-appointed for cooking and serving family-style meals at the large dining room table. The upstairs area is large enough to allow for plenty of privacy for two couples with several small children. The bedrooms were comfortable, featuring large beds with very nice linens. Finally, the owners were quite helpful and pleasant. They offered many useful suggestions about what we might enjoy doing in Miller Beach and seemed genuinely invested in our enjoying our time at their place. When the dishwasher broke down, they immediately dealt with the issue and -- when it became clear we'd be without a dishwasher for a few days as they awaited a part -- they offered us the free use of the downstairs apartment for a weekend.

Owner response:Thanks Mary! I'm glad that you and your family had a fun time at the beach.
