Great beach house. Our whole family, grandparents, parents & kids, had a wonderful time there. The house has clearly been well loved and well used. While not new, everything is up to date and fully equipped. The deck has the best view imaginable. On the 4th of July we could see fireworks on Follly Beach, Charleston and Isle of Palms! The location on the beach is good and just a few steps away. Owner is very helpful, patiently answered all our questions. We left some clothes in the closet and she had them mailed to us right away.

This is a delightful house, very comfortable, close to the beach. It is well maintained, and has a charming air to it. If you are looking for very modern amenities, this would not be the place for you. It does have Internet, which is helpful. No wireless. It does have TVs, but we never actually turned them on. The front porch is spacious and delightful for lounging, eating breakfast, reading. The owner is most helpful in answering questions and concerns, and the fellow who lives in the lower apartment is very friendly and helpful.

Comfortable, well equipped , historic home 3 minutes from beach. The living room and large screened porch were perfect for relaxing with friends and our two goldens. Home was well stocked. The owner was a pleasure to work with and very responsive.

If you like old, dark, neglected houses, this is the place for you. The good part: GREAT location, great beach, especially if you like to kite surf-(due to huge sand bar you will not be where the waves actually break), good air conditioning, good MBR with K that has been added on. In case you missed it like I did, you only get the upstairs; this is a duplex and a very quiet, nice man lives downstairs. The bad part: this house looks like it has had no repairs, upkeep, or updates since it was built. The furniture is uncomfortable, old, and seemed dirty. Structurally, there are rotten boards, and we left early due to too many bugs, especially in BR with twin beds. The owner did seem very nice on phone, and she was prompt to get a man out to spray for the bugs, but it did no good. (They seem to come in the windows, ceiling, and especially the hole where woodstove was taken out and sort of plugged up).To us this place was worth about half of what we paid. Anyway, we left early and won't be back.
Owner response: Oh my – we are so sorry the house wasn’t what this reviewer expected. I’m sure when we spoke that I’d told her this was an old island home, in our family since it was built in 1929, not a polished condominium, and that she said that was just what they were looking for. As for its sturdiness – may I brag? The house has survived every hurricane with barely a scratch – even Hugo! Then-Governor McNair had his helicopter fly over to view it and called to compliment us on what he called "the island miracle." Re "dark and neglected," even each bedroom has 4 - 5 windows, and our wonderful handyman, who checks things out weekly, insists on repairing even the slightest scratch. When I spoke with the reviewer's daughter, she said everything was "perfect." We were so delighted. This is the first negative review we’ve ever gotten, and we truly feel terrible about the reviewer's disappointment.

What a beautiful place. Although it was a very hot week, we never had one minutes problem with the air conditioner- worked great. Our most treasured memories of this beautiful place was the screened in porch. We would sit out there with our family (all the kids went and 8 are very comfortable) and talk, laugh, and play word games until the wee hours of the morning. It is a wonderful place to reconnect and just spend time together. There are two bike companies- Mike's Bikes and Isle of Palms Beach Chair Company who both deliver bicycles right to your door and come pick them up. We went riding daily. There are bike trails everywhere. If you love simple, uncomplicated breaks from the everyday- this is the perfect spot! I also found the owner to be one of the nicest people I have met in a long time. The saying about southern hospitality is still very much true! Shari and family

We stayed at this lovely house in June and can't wait to go back! It reminded me so much of the house I stayed in as a child when my cousin owned a place at the beach. The cypress paneling and floors and the wonderful spacious kitchen were first class! They don't make houses like this anymore. I spent much time on the screened porch. In the morninings, it was so quiet and so pleasant to listen to the beach sounds and revel in nature. One night we had such a breeze that I got a throw and put it over my legs! In June, in South Carolina! I did get up on the top deck one night and was amazed at the stars and the full moon. The owner is a jewel and even called to see if we had everything we needed. This house has everything and is a short walk to the beach. We had a wonderful time!

We had a wonderful time in your beach home. Thank you so much for renting it to us. I love the feel of the house. My family went to the beach every summer when I was a child and the houses always had a wonderful beach feel. The beach was a close walk and the street felt like a neighborhood. The kids had a good time and really enjoyed the house and location. Toby (the very wonderful bichon) also had a great time. Thank you for sharing your beach house it was a wonderful (and very hot) week.

My family spent a week in this home in May 2010. They really enjoyed their introduction to Charleston and especially Sullivan's Island. The location was convenient to downtown (they were in town for a graduation) and so peaceful and quiet all at the same time. And the view from the rooftop was spectacular! If I can gather them up again for a visit, we will certainly be back at this beach house!

May 5, 2010 Rachel, we thoroughly enjoyed our week on Sullivan's Island and your home felt like our homes, only with less complications. Our spirited scrabble games and sing-a-longs to "Mamma Mia" may have gotten a little too rambunctious, though. Unfortunately, time doesn't always allow us to have such an extended vacation like we had this year, but when it does and our bodies are craving the salt and the sand and the "mango" sunrises and sunsets, we will certainly keep your island home in mind. If you'll still have us, we'd love to return. On behalf of my sisters, I again thank you for your hospitality and allowing us to come together for one memorable week.

We enjoyed getting married near Charleston and brought our friends and family to the beach house to have a wonderful taste of the lowcountry. It was relaxing, beautiful and truely a wonderful vacation spot. Everything was furnished, a fully fuctional kitchen and the beach at Sullivans's Island is still non-commerical and one of the finest. The local food, friends from many states, and the wonderful furnishings of the beachhouse made this a priceless memory. I would recommend this rental to anyone who is ready to relax in true island form.

My husband & I met our SC friends down here as part of a 40th birthday surprise. It was the perfect place to reconnect with friends that we hadn't seen in several years. This house is in a great location on the island – beachfront is across the street...you’re that close! If you want to hang out and relax, check out the screened-in patio or go up the winding staircase to the rooftop patio (both furnished) where you can watch the gorgeous sunrises/sunsets. You have a view of the ocean from there as well and you’re close enough to hear the waves crash. This was our favorite spot to hang out & catch up. You’ll feel so at home here – it’s totally furnished and you truly do not need to bring a thing. When you arrive, you'll see that everything is clean & neat: the kitchen is stocked with appliances, cutlery & dishes; all the beds have linens and the 2 full baths are stocked with towels. There’s a diswasher, washing machine & dryer on the property. You truly want for nothing...including air conditioning. The house is plenty roomy overall and the bedrooms are all good size. You’re close to some awesome restaurants, grocery stores, and most importantly, beautiful Charleston. Within a day of arriving, we were already talking about friends & family we’d like to invite on our next trip to the Island. We were very happy & comfortable staying here. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone interested in an affordable, relaxing vacation on Sullivan’s island.

We had a wonderful time on Sullivan's Island and the house could not have been more perfect! The screened in porch provided a lovely space to eat, read and relax, and there was plenty of room on the rooftop deck or the beach if we wanted to get some sun! Rachel was very accommodating as well.

My family and I have been going back to this special place for 22 years. When we do, we usually invite friends or relatives to share it with. This is just the way the beach should be: homey and relaxed, inviting and peaceful. The crow's nest is one of the highest points on Sullivan's Island, perfect for watching the surf, sunning, and stargazing. (Part of it is shaded, too!) The huge screened porch is my favorite place in the world for a laid-back, all morning breakfast with those I love, the newspaper, and a nap. The beach just gets better and wider every year. Usually, we encounter dolphins, sometimes sea turtles. The owners are lovely and gracious. Sullivan's Island is the perfect beach community - quaint and non-commercial. Then, only a hop, skip, and jump away is beautiful, historic Charleston. A living, thriving historic city, Charleston is as close as America gets to the ancient cities of Europe. This is paradise for me, and though I'll never be fortunate enough to own a beach house, I hope this one will always be "our" home away from home. We'll be returning frequently for as long as we can.

We had a fabulous time and hated to come home! We had everything we needed at the house, and the weather was great. The beach was just fantastic. I would get up at six every morning and walk out to the lighthouse and I so enjoyed the dogs on the beach (and so did the kids). We went to Fort Moultrie, Fort Sumter, USS Yorktown, and of course downtown Charleston several times. The house was so convenient for all of those things. We truly appreciate all of your thoughtfulness and the use of your home. Maybe we can do it again next year!

This is a very special place I hope to get back to soon. We felt so at home and completely relaxed when we stayed there-so beautiful, nice and peaceful. We really hated to leave. I sat on the roof and watched all the sunsets and several of the sunrises. Once again, a beautiful house. I would definately recommend this property to my very best friends.

My family had a lovely vacation at this property. We had four generations together! My 85 year old Mother simply loved her naps on the front porch with the ocean breeze. I would imagine if the walls could talk, there would be some grand stories of past visits to tell. Sullivans Island at its best! We all hope to come next year.

We had a wonderful time exploring the area, relaxing at the beach, eating the delicious lowcountry cuisine again, and showing our daughters the lovely place where we once lived. The house was cozy and charming and simply delightful.
