We like to hike and see waterfalls and we always bring our dogs with us. This cabin is beautiful with the most amazing views of the lake. The gate on the porch is great so the dogs could sit out side with us and enjoy the view. We had everything we needed in the cabin. Many pet friendly VRBO's we have stayed at are not as well kept and well equiped as Misty Laurel. Patrick was more than helpful with all paper work, directions and making sure we were comfortable. We only wish we had more time to stay and use the canoe and get out on the water. The grocery store is only about 20 to 30 mins away, along with trails and waterfalls. Great area for outdoor adventure seekers and perfect rental for lake lovers and bringing your fur kids! Thank you for a perfect vacation!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: I'm so glad you and your husband (and pups!) had a great time at Misty Laurel! I sure hope you'll be able to come for a longer stay again soon. Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm! Pat

We built out family vacation around a seven night stay at Misty Laurel and had a great time. The cabin was just as advertised -- large, well cared for, clean, having great views and many modern comforts. Using the cabin as a base-point we hiked, watched mountains, clouds, and colorful songbirds, toured local waterfalls, ate a 2.5 pound family burger offered at the marina, rafted through NOC, pontooned and tubed on the lake, and stayed up late watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy on the big TV. Our dog had the run of the place as well. Pat was always available and prompt in communication, suggestions, answering questions, and administratively (four hours after we left we got an email confirming our security deposit refund was on the way). This was our first visit to North Carolina. Living in Chicago, we usually head out west for mountains. We definitely recommend Misty Laurel for a family vacation.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, sightseeing.
Owner response: I am really glad to know Misty Laurel met your expectations in every way and that you and your family had a great time in the area! I hope you will be able to come back for another visit sometime in the future! Pat

We just came back from a weekend at Misty Laurel Retreat. This place was fantastic! The house was beautiful and the rooms were spacious and nice. The view from the deck and living room was stunning. It overlooked the lake and mountains. We were amazed at the items provided for us: aluminum foil, ziplock bags, fluffy towels, board games, every kitchen gadget we could want, and more! We were able to bring a dog with us, which was nice. You could not tell the place had ever had a dog in it. It was immaculate! The owners were great to work with. They were pleasant and accomodating. We are already planning our next trip!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Wow! It's so nice to hear such a complimentary review! I'm truly pleased that you and your family had such a great experience at Misty Laurel last weekend. I'll be looking forward to hosting you again. Thanks! Pat

After moving to SC from TX, we were looking for a quiet place to "hide-out" and let our dogs play since they have been cooped up in an apt for months until we find a home to buy. This cabin is exactly what we needed! The view is amazing! The cabin was extremely clean, well-equipped with everything you can imagine and working with Pat and Jo was simple. The nearest cabin was down the gravel road a piece and no one was even in it! Though there was no hot tub, the two level covered porch was terrific to sit on and just listen to nothing but birds. My 20 yr old daughter and my husband took the canoe/trailer offered by the owner out to the lake a couple of times and fished while floating in a peaceful and beautiful lake. Great waterfalls, stores not too far; maybe 20 minutes. They also have a nice portable fire pit that we used for s'mores! This cabin was nice and large with 3 floors and comfy beds/great baths. Full size washer and dryer, too. The one night it rained, we loved listening to the rain hitting the roof. Our 2 dogs totally enjoyed being free to roam around the cabin, and the dogs can be safe on the porch because it has a gate to keep them from roaming off the porch. Simply relaxing! You'll love it here!! It's about a 2.5 hour drive from Anderson, SC. We will definitely return this summer and fall to see the great colors offered by the forest of trees.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: It's always great to hear that our guests enjoyed their stay and found things to be in keeping with their expectations! Thanks so much for sharing your positive experience! Pat & Jo

The chalet was everything you said it was and more. The view is amazing and the place was an experience for us city folks. The chalet was clean and had everything you could want. Eating dinners looking at the view is something you have to experience. There is so much to do and go to around the area you can't get it all in the first time and we will have to come back to do it all over again. Pat you were so helpful with information and maps. It was a pleasure to rent your beautful home! Our two Maltese dogs loved the chalet and thanks again for letting us bring them.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We aim to please! Glad to hear such kind words!

Misty Laurel is a perfect place for a mountain getaway for the entire family. From the living room and the deck, you have the majestic long-range view of mountains and Lake Nantahala. Renting a pontoon boat (less than 10m away) and meandering along the Lake and Nantahala river, surrounded by mountain peaks and the vast virgin forests, you felt that you were literally entering a picture which was unfolding right in front of your eyes. The kids had a blast of time playing in numerous creeks and water falls around the area. Nantahala Outdoor Center (about 20m drive) is a must stop which offers great services of water rafting, kayaking and many other outdoor activities. If you kids are into gem mining, you need to drive a little further (about 1h) to Franklin. There are several offering natural gem mining as well as "pretty-stone mining" for kids. The description and pictures of the listing is accurate. The house is clean, cozy, well maintained and tastefully decorated. It has everything our family needs, including a pair of high capacity washer and dryer, which are very helpful for a family with kids, all wet and muddy from outdoor activities. If I could, I'd like to give an extra star for the high-speed Internet connectivity in the house. Same can NOT be said for most of other rentals in the mountain area. We had several not-so-pleasant experience in the past. For some of us whose work depends on fast Internet access, this is essential. My iphone (AT&T) had no service soon after entering the mountain area, so it's good that the house offers local and long distance calls for free. The house sits near top of a ridge. There are sharp U-turns and steep climbs. For those of us who have only driven on paved roads, and have never shifted automatic gear away from "D", this is a heart racing experience for the first time. Then you shifted your gear to "1", slowed down and found to your surprise that your car (a family mini-van) could actually do this! There is never a doubt after that. Pat, the owner, is extremely helpful to offer information and respond to email/phone queries promptly. I have no hesitation to recommend Misty Laurel to my friends and families.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are gratified that our recent guests found Misty Laurel Chalet and the surrounding area to be all that they'd hoped for! We strive to provide everything needed for a wonderful experience in this gorgeous setting! Pat & Jo

Smokey Mountains at Christmas? There is nowhere else I want to be. The drive to this BEAUTIFUL chalet was an adventure. There is nothing below a five star. From the moment we walked in the door, it felt like home. We had 4 adults, 12 year old, 9 year old and a 3 year old. Did I forget to mention the 2 dogs? It never felt crowded. If this is what cabin fever is, I'm more than happy to have it. Pat was so wonderful. He cares greatly for his guests and makes sure that everything is perfect. (He even called us at home to make sure we made it back safely). This was the best gift we could have given and received for Christmas. Thank you so much!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for the kind words! It was a pleasure hosting your family last Christmas! All the best! Pat

I justed wanted to let you know what a fabulous time Mike and I had staying at the Misty Laurel Chalet. The scenery was breath-taking and waking up in the mornings was like being in the clouds. The facilties we great as well. Once we got there, we felt like just staying and not even taking in the sights - although we did - and it was great to find out there were so many activities just around the corner of the mountain (kayaking, horseback riding, fishing and boating!). Thank you so much for telling us about the Chalet. We look forward to using it again!! It was a very relaxing and memorable stay!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

What a beautiful place! The view of the lake, framed by awesome fall colors, was magnificent ! There were great places to explore, but we were just as happy to to sit by the fire or play games. The guys were able to get the "big game" on TV so everyone was happy! There was lots of room to spread out and plenty of privacy for each couple. We are recommending it to our friends!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

I just wanted to let you know on behalf of myself and my family members what a wonderful place Misty Laurel Chalet is to stay! I felt like I was in heaven when I awoke each morning in the loft and looked out to an absolutely breathtaking view of Lake Nantahala and the surrounding mountains. The cabin was warm, cozy, and had plenty of room for all of us. Being brand new, it had all the modern amenities anyone could want while on vacation. The location was great since we were not far from many charming surrounding towns that we could easily get to in an hour or so. We all enjoyed our walks down and up the mountain each morning. We look forward to a summer visit so we can enjoy the lake and the Outdoor center for rafting which is just minutes away. I highly recommend Misty Laurel for anyone wanting a pleasant place to enjoy the mountains of North Carolina!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1
