Good things come in small packages! Our charming 1746 rose-covered cottage is located in the Cliff Road area on a quiet side street near the Oldest House. As snug as a bug in a rug, this piece of Nantucket's past puts you in easy walking distance of Jetties and Step Beaches, Main Street, the Grand Union and all of the town's outstanding restaurants (the largest number of Wine Spectator Awards of any community in Massachusetts outside Boston), antiquing and shopping opportunities. The property is set back on the lot and abuts, in the rear, nothing but woods. Enjoy private dining on the patio or the screened-in porch.
Your beloved Fido is welcome too at this dog-friendly cottage. The walks on the beach, along sandy tracks tracing through the island's lovely open moors and swimming in the surf will please him/her as much as you.
Our cottage, called "Saltcoats," is the perfect destination for a couple looking for a romantic getaway or to find solace away from the tourist hubbub. Come for the entire summer!! It's that affordable...

I have been vacationing on Nantucket for 38 years now. Have stayed in the resorts, the inns, the bed and breakfasts, and in many private rental homes. NONE has pleased me as much as Saltcoats. It has everything. It is clean, quiet, and offers far more than the description tells. Close to everything, but secluded in its own space. It is my sanctuary. I hope that I may enjoy it for many more years.Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, tourists without a car.

We've been renting on Nantucket for many years and this cottage was even prettier than depicted in the photos. The kitchen had every utensil one could want, the appliances were in excellent condition, the furniture was sturdy and comfortable, the bedrooms charming. The cottage was very clean and the grounds were well maintained. As concerns the location, we were enveloped by nature and yet were able to walk into town in less than 10 minutes. The screen porch was the perfect setting for sharing a salad, some cheese and crackers or a complete meal. We were also pleased with the varied selection of reading material. In addition, there were many informational pamphlets and menus so as to facilitate the decision making process of where to eat and what to do. There were several helpful hints posted on the fridge and of course an emergency contact. It took us all of about 5 minutes to settle in. I have fond memories of having our morning coffee in the back yard, listening to the robins. I would definitely recommend this "Rose Covered Cottage" for a stay on Nantucket. It's location lends itself to many of the island's finest restaurants and shopping. There is a walking trail nearby. We plan on returning next season.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car.

The owner's description accurately described this cozy cottage which served as a very convenient base for many island activities. If you are looking for newly renovated with bells and whistles, this isn't your place, but if you are comfortable in a homey, clean, charming, and quiet setting steps from town and beach, this is a great option. I plan on returning!Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, tourists without a car.

My recent wintry stay at Saltcoats reminded me once again that dreams do come true every so often. This small, sweet cottage with its many comforts more than surpassed my hopes. The photos on VRBO barely do it justice. Located just a short walk from the center of town and Steppes Beach, and just steps away from Coffin Park, it is that perfect find -- an endearing oasis with all the comforts of home. The nights were deeply quiet, and the cottage's 256-year-old bones offered a snug, safe harbor from winter storms and howling winds. The wood stove kept me warm, the mattress was terrific, the book shelves were loaded, the furniture comfy and the kitchen well stocked. Saltcoats is spic and span clean with WIFI, plenty of closet space, two DVDs and flat screen TVs, a Bose system, even an antique bed tray which I used for breakfast in bed each morning. The icing on this delicious cupcake of a cottage is the owner Kate Strout who patiently responded to all my questions and concerns. The caretaker taught me how to work the wood stove, retrieved batteries for the cottage's flashlight and even emailed me every so often to make sure all was well. The town is full of treasures -- Nantucket Natural Oils is a wonderful shop full of perfumes, lotions, oils, candles -- all are alcohol free and last forever. The Grand Union supplied me with everything I needed, the library's collection of DVDs and CDs kept me entertained, and the galleries were a delight to visit. I might also add that the year round Nantucket folks were as welcome as anyone could wish. The attic has a lovely "reading" room with chaise lounge and desk as well as a second bedroom. I love Nantucket in winter where the temps were higher than on the mainland, and we had significantly less rain. I highly recommend this haven of peace and quiet for anyone like myself who is looking for solitude and rest.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, tourists without a car.
