Welcome to Heavenly Haven
A family friend introduced us to Craig Creek in the spring of 2007. We were instantly enamored by the clean water and beautiful mountain views. The creek is perfect for tubing, canoing, and fishing. The surrounding Jefferson National forest offers some of the best hiking and hunting in the area.
A week’s vacation at Craig Creek in the summer of 2007 cemented our love for the area and we began to look for a place to call our own. As we began our search we learned that property on the creek is rarely sold, and is often passed from one generation to the next. We had almost abandoned the idea when we happened upon the find of a lifetime……our Heavenly Haven.
In 1997 a local attorney purchased the 1.3 acre creek-front lot near Oriskany, Virginia with the intent to build a fishing and hunting “getaway”. In 2000, he commissioned Mennonite carpenters to construct the unique cedar cabin and adjacent 10' x 20' barn from Southern Living’s “Deer Run” design.
The beautifully detailed interior features tongue-and-groove knotty wood pine. Craftsmanship, attention to detail, and quality materials; all trademarks of the Mennonite builder; are abundant throughout.
The dining area features seating for 6 at a wonderful table hand crafted on the property. 2 large windows provide scenery while you dine. A deer antler chandelier, with dimmer, sets the mood for family meals or romantic dinners.
The master bedroom features an inviting king size oak bed with comfortable memory foam mattress. The bed is adorned with high quality linens, perfectly suited to the country setting. Two large windows provide plenty of natural sunlight and scenic views of the surrounding forestry. The ceiling fan, candles, and overhead dimmer allow you to set temperature and lighting perfectly for your comfort and mood. A full bath, with enclosed shower and tub is conveniently located next to the master bedroom.
The centerpiece of the great room is a breathtaking stone fireplace which extends from the floor to the 20 ft cathedral ceiling. A lush queen size sleeper sofa, antique cedar chest, and oversize chairs make this room an inviting place to enjoy conversation and a book or DVD from our library by the fire. The ceiling fan and overhead lighting allow you to create the perfect atmosphere for relaxation.
The fully equipped kitchen contains everything you’ll need to cook a gourmet meal, or simply heat up a pizza. Electric stove and oven, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, pots and pans, crock-pot, dishes, utensils, and spices are provided. A large window over the kitchen sink provides views of the creek while you cook or socialize.
At the top of the solid pine staircase is the sleeping loft. In the loft you’ll find two comfy double size log beds and a set bunk beds. The bottom bunk has a full size mattress, and can sleep 2. The top bunk has a double mattress and sports views of the creek through the adjacent window. A collection of toys, games, children’s videos, and a VCR are available for your use. 2 large windows provide lots of sunlight and gorgeous views.

As soon as we entered Heavenly Haven, we knew this would not be our first stay. We have already booked another long weekend for this summer. Heavenly Havenly is wonderfully equipped to accommodate everything from a long weekend to an extended stay. I am originally from the Eagle Rock area and it was great to have my friends and family in the area stop by to visit for board games on a rainy Sunday in front of the fireplace to bbq dinners in the evenings. Everyone who stopped by fell in love with the cabin and some have already made plans for a stay of their own.Owner response: Glad you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for the nice review. We are looking forward to your return! Mike & Deanna

The photographs of "Heavenly Haven" truly do not do it justice. They cannot capture the smell of cedar and pine as one enters the cabin, the warmth of the log fireplace on a chilly fall night nor the soothing sound of the rapids of Craig's Creek. It was far more than we ever expected. The kitchen is supplied with all the tools a gourmet cook could expect and the whimsical decor captures the true spirit of the mountains. We shall return. DLB and VEMRecommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

When we were looking for a cabin in the mountains, and we had three requirements - that it be on the water, that it have a wood burning fireplace, and hopefully a king size bed. After hours of searching, we found Heavenly Haven which is 422 miles from our home in Williamsburg, Virginia. This retreat is the perfect get away for those who want to leave the city and have a "camping" retreat without the tent. This cabin is "upscale" in every aspect. With wood pine on the floors, walls and ceilings, the owners selected the perfect decor even the light fixtures are those seen in interior design showrooms. BUT the creek, which is as wide as a river, was the jewel of this trip. Every morning we would walk down to the creek and take in the fall beauty and the many persimmon trees which line the creek. While there we saw three migrating bald eagles, four does, three great blue herons, several juncos, and a phoebe, cardinal, Carolina wren, rufus towee, a little lizard, a belted kingfisher, and a six point buck swam across the river. So grab a glass of wine and sit by the river each evening and await the show. Thank you for sharing your beautiful cabin. Also Jeff caught a brook trout at Roaring Run! A hidden gem - we didn't want to leave at the end of the week! The cabin was immaculate and cozy, especially with a fire in the hearth. The trees were in peak autumn colors and the creek was clean and clear. This is the stuff of existentialist literature. There was no lack of wildlife - within the first 48 hours of arrival we had already seen 3 raccoons, 2 opossum, and at least a dozen deer, some of which walked across the creek right in front of my husband. If we lived closer I would rent this place several times a year. Recommendations: Refill the tank and buy groceries before you leave the interstate because there are few gas stations/stores once you get into the heart of the forest. Dining at the Swinging Bridge Restaurant and General Store in Paint Bank which has live bluegrass music on Thursday evenings. The Hoop Hole Trail just up the road for miles of wonderful hiking. Otherwise, enjoy the view, the peace and quiet, and dissolve in serenity.Owner response: Thanks so much for the wonderful review. We look forward to having you back! Mike & Deanna

Well I was very sad to have to pack up and leave Sunday morning...I would've liked to call home and just have all of my belongings shipped to the Cabin and stay FOREVER!! It was PERFECT and exactly what we needed! The Cabin is SPECTACULAR with no detail left undone! We loved the fireplace so much we didn't even make it to the Master Bedroom to sleep we just pulled the sleeper sofa out and there we stayed. The fire and the decoration's lighting were wonderful, calming, relaxing and just a DREAM! I have told ALL my friends and family if they're looking for the perfect getaway THIS is the place for it....and I am planning another visit before the end of the year. Thank you so much for everything Ronda & CurtisOwner response: Ronda & Curtis, We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay. We hope to have you back soon! Thanks, Mike & Deanna

Our first stay at Heavenly Haven and this "back to nature" vacation deep in the Shenandoah ranks as one of the best we've ever done. The cabin itself is strikingly beautiful inside and out - a real work of master craftsmanship nestled along Craig Creek. The owners have spared no detail in the appointments which offer a perfect balance of home comfort and rustic charm. With four young boys and a dog we were happy to discover all the natural delights in and around the area: canoeing, tubing, fishing, hikes...and lots more fishing (fantastic bass water just feet from the back door!) S'mores at the firepit were a must have and capped off the day's adventures to the happy symphony of crickets, bullfrogs and rushing water. Mike and Deanna have a true gem in a place that seems to escape time. The memories our boys made here will last a lifetime and we look forward to our next getaway at Heavenly Haven to make more!Owner response: It sounds like your family made some great memories at the cabin. Thanks for the wonderfully written review. We look forward to your return! Mike & Deanna

My husband and I were looking for a beautiful, remote place where we could ride bikes, canoe, and enjoy the solitude of the forest but still have modern conveniences like wireless Internet so we could work during the day and play during the evenings and weekends. The cabin worked beautifully for our two- week stay. Extremely comfortable, nicely decorated and equipped with everything you could need. The woodwork throughout was gleaming and gorgeous. The screened porch with rocking chairs was a nice place to hang out when the occasional thunderstorm rolled through. Mike and Deanna were very helpful and welcoming. The upstairs loft would be a perfect place for kids or other guests. There was a good grocery store 10 miles away. Can't think of enough great things to say about this place and can't wait to go back!!Owner response: We're so happy you enjoyed your stay and look forward to your return! Mike & Deanna
