This was a perfect escape for the cold, quiet days between Christmas and New Years. We enjoyed many warm fires, took several gorgeous hikes through surrounding parks, and cooked comfort food. The house is one of the most well-equipped vacation rentals we've ever seen. The owners were very responsive and provided excellent information. For a quiet stay in the VA mountains, we highly recommend.

Our family found Heavenly Haven to live up it its name in every possible way. The house is just right - it is beautifully built, tastefully decorated, well-equipped and maintained, and thoughtfully detailed to ensure every guest need is met. But the show stopper is the environement. The creek and surrounding views are breathtaking. Our week was the perfect way to reconnect and recharge. In fact, we never even used the TV. The canoe, tubes, fire pit, and nearby hiking trailes provided more than enough entertainment (don't miss the fun little swinging footbridge about a mile down the road to the right). We're already looking at the calendar to see when we can return - can't wait! Mike and Deanna, you helped us have the best vacation we've experienced in quite some time - thanks a million!

Heavenly Haven was a lovely weekend getaway for my group of 6 friends! The house has everything you could need and is cozy and pleasant. The property is private and beautiful, and one of our friends enjoyed fishing in the creek. I would definitely stay here again, and I recommend it to others.

My husband, daughter and son rented Heavenly Haven for 3 nights/4 days this past weekend and had a blast. It is truly a little piece of heaven when you drive down that little driveway. The cabin is immaculate and the attention to detail is amazing. Everything you could possibly need. We could have stayed for a month. The river that runs in front of the house kept us busy for hours and hours. Mike and Deanna have the cutest canoe that we were fortunate to use. We all had a turn to go float. Jason is a fly fisherman so spent hours gliding along with his line in the water. We had campfires everynight-there was plenty of wood and kindling everywhere(from fallen trees). The kids had a blast in the little loft-Alex loved sleeping on the top bunk with the perfect view of the river in the mornings. Their were plenty of games and even a horseshoe pit that kept them quite busy. I think my very favorite part of the trip was sitting on the wonderful porch in the rocking chairs reading and watching the river flow by. Anna and I refilled all the hummingbird feeders-and we were paid a visit by a few hummers!. We wish there was a bit more bird seed in the big milk tin so we could fill the other feeders up. The grill was great, a big stainless steel gas grill, perfect for our hamburgers and hot dogs. The kitchen had everything we needed-all sorts of dishes, pans, even some maple syrup for the pancakes(we forgot ours!). Overall the cabin was just wonderful. We can't wait to return. The kids want to visit in the winter(with the hopes of getting snowed in!!! Ha). I have recommended Heavenly Haven to quite a few friends and they can't wait to make reservations. Great place to stay and unwind. Clean and all the comforts of home. The kitchen has everything you need. We love the area, the quietness and canoeing and fishing in the creek. We love being able to grill and sit around the campfire.

Secluded and beautiful

We loved Heavenly Haven. The home was clean, cozy, warm and inviting. All the amenities were provided (dishes, silverware, towels, etc.) which is a nice touch. The house remained cool while outside was warmer and humid. Lots to do and see in the area... of course, there is the river with lots of access points. We ventured to Blueridge Winergy and Virginia Mountain Winery; visitied the Swinging Bridge Restaurant - delicious food; And we enjoyed a couple mile hike on the Roaring Run trail. It was just the two of us this time but we'll definitely be back with friends. The process to rent Heavenly Haven was easy and we received our deposit in a timely manner.

Perfect Cabin in a Beautiful Setting

The Heavenly Haven cabin was even cuter in real life than it appears in the pictures. The secluded setting was beautiful, with a small rapid just downstream of the cabin providing a soothing sound of rushing water. We found the cabin fully outfitted and stocked with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The place was spotlessly clean and obviously well cared for, and the owners were gracious hosts who answered my emails promptly and helpfully. It was hard to leave when our time was up! I would happily stay here again or recommend Heavenly Haven to my friends and family.

We had a wonderful stay over Christmas. The cabin is beautiful inside and out. Its secluded location is the perfect getaway spot. Nearby New Castle is a friendly town where you can stock up on everything you need at the supermarket, and the Paint Bank General Store/Swinging Bridge Restaurant is well worth the short trek over the mountain ridge. Although the driveway to the cabin is not very long, it is fairly steep. In the snowy winter months, you will most definitely need a four-wheel drive vehicle to easily navigate it. That being said, Heavenly Haven is a fantastic cabin. We hope to get back there again soon! Big thanks to Mike and Deanna for their hospitality.

Heavenly Haven Helped Me Get My "Virginia Fix"

Having grown up in SW VA, over the last 26 yrs we've made our home in a rural area of WA state's Cascade Mountains. I fly back to VA to visit my siblings & extended family as often as I can. Besides visiting family, getting what I call "My Virginia Fix" is essential to my heart & soul. I love Virginia's creeks, gaps, blue ridges and hollows; her ancient mountains, her quaint rural cemeteries and historic trails. This is the first time that we've stayed at Heavenly Haven. I'm delighted to have discovered this home away from home! It perfectly suited our vacation needs. We could easily visit w/ relatives and then have a cozy, delightful space, inside and out, to come back to, for solitude, reflection, & "battery re-charging". Mike and Deanna have created a lovely retreat. The decor is tastefully understated, mountain cabin decor (which to me means not decorating every nook & cranny w/ goofy-too-cute bears, moose, or other kitsch. The indoor visual environment is one big piece of what for us makes a relaxing vacation. In addition, the outdoor spaces are large and lovely, forested and secluded enough, to feel as if one has restful privacy (this coming from a recluse that lives on a forested 20 acres). The property affords, and Olneys have created, many sitting areas / visiting places, inside and outside, such that folk can hang out in various groupings according to their vacation needs / desires. We were able to entertain family there, for an afternoon & evening of barbecue and bonfire, which was a pleasant treat for them not to feel responsible for all of the hosting while discovering this lovely setting in their own "backyards". The Olneys have provided just about every little extra, which is important, as you don't want to spend all your vacation time driving to New Castle for this & that. Stock up on groceries in New Castle before heading to the cabin. If you're one of those not-so-rare-birds that actually enjoys cooking on vacation, stock up on groceries in Salem for greater selection. Lastly, the Olneys successfully provide a balance of structure & info & availability, before & during the rental, without breathing down your neck. The beauty of Craig's Creek & the complex smells of the Appalachian forest helped me get that "Virginia Fix". Driving backwoods roads & working on genealogy was also a hoot. Visiting with family & still getting down-time w/ my spouse? Priceless. Thank you, Mike & Deanna. We look forward to coming back!

Truly Heavenly

We had the most amazing time at Heavenly Haven! It was even better than promised. It has everything you could possibly need to enjoy a weekend away from everything. We took my two young adult daughters, their boyfriends, and three small dogs. We had a ball! They didn’t even miss their cell phones, although they kept in contact with Facebook. I don’t think the TV got turned on once. The best part was just hanging at the cabin and relaxing. At night, the stars are amazing because you are so far away from everything. We will definitely be back!

Wonderful getaway

We were lucky enough to celebrate our anniversary at your wonderful cabin. We just wished that we could have stayed longer. The cabin is decorated perfectly. We loved sitting out by the creek and watching our two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels run around. I think they loved it as much as we did. We fell in love with the area. If we had to come up with a complaint it would only be the neighbors fence blocking the pathway along the creek, but we just walked the other way and it was a delightful walk. We visited the Swinging Bridge Restaurant for dinner on Saturday and it was wonderful. Someday we plan on moving to the area but until then we will just have to visit. Hopefully we will be back soon to visit Heavenly Haven. Thank you for opening your cabin for so many people to enjoy. Melissa & Robert

Coming from France and posted in Washington DC, we drove the 4 1/2 hours to Craigscreek Road. It was amazing to find this true haven in the middle of the forest..a lovely wooden cabin overlooking the river. Everything we needed to cook , spices, oils, etc. even some wine and coffee to start us off... We took turns canoeing and all of us went swimming in these peaceful waters..At the property there was not a soul in sight except for the 6 of us and our two dogs who just loved it there as much as we did..We did venture off looking for a supermarket and found a small town, Newcastle I believe, just 10-15 min from the cabin..Truly a beautiful area..glad we could discover that part of the USA..Highly recommend it to anyone considering a quiet paradise in the woods!

First trip to Heavenly Haven. The accommodations are as pictured and were good for our group. Craig Creek was low for fishing this year due to drought, but we did catch a few fish wading using spinning tackle and fly rods. We floated fished the nearby James River with canoes and kayaks (catch and release) on several sections and everyone caught fish. Smallmouth bass are the primary quarry. We also played golf twice on local courses between Buchanon and Roanoke. There are loads of deer and turkeys in the surrounding forests so drive carefully. We even saw a small black bear.

The cabin is absolutely wonderful. We spend a weekend there and it was the perfect place. The cabin is amazing and the surrounding area is beautiful. This cabin has EVERYTHING you will need during your stay. They have thought of everything. There is a river on the property to go canoeing,a fire pit to make smores and when you need a little modern comfort watch some football on the satalite TV, really it has it all!!! This is a beautiful cabin located right on Craig Creek. Very private and peaceful. Sitting on the screened porch and listening to the rapids in the creek, the birds and other nature sounds was so relaxing. The cabin is beautifully furnished, including a kitchen that is furnished with every utensil imaginable. Water was too low and cold for tubing, but okay for a little canoeing. A great couple of days for renewing mind and spirit! Owners were very personable and easy to work with (via e-mail) during the reservation process -- beginning to end. We're looking forward to a return trip to this (very appropriatelly named) Heavenly Haven.

We stayed in the cabin 2 nights (the second was New Years Eve). The weather turned extremely windy (50mph gusts) and cold during the first night, so we didn't get to enjoy the property or any nearby hikes -- but the cabin itself was a great consolation, with plenty of puzzles and the fireplace to enjoy. A perfect place to just nest in and enjoy some family time. We hope to come back when the weather is better!

We visited Heavenly Haven Cabin at the end of July '08. I was shocked at how lovely the overall area was. As soon as you make the turn off 220 you are transported to the Blue Ridge. The last half hour of the trip is breathtaking with mountain vistas around every turn. The cabin is on the very upper end of rentals. We were thrilled with the privacy and the quality and extent of the amenities. The kitchen has EVERYTHING. Bedding and linens were high end although well used. The property fronts the creek which is the highlight. Clean and clear and just wonderful to swim in! The owners were very helpful and kind. Good luck!

As soon as we drove in the driveway and saw the cabin we knew we were "home". The cabin had such a welcoming feel about it that it made our stay very relaxing and enjoyable! Our kids had fun with the outdoor fire pit, walking up and down the bank by the river and the bunk beds! The adults enjoyed playing horse shoes, the cozy indoor fire place and the serenity of the great outdoors. We appreciated all that the Mike & Deanna did for us to make our weekend very special!
