  We spent a week at this condo with our parents celebrating their 65th Anniversary. Our family had an amazing time .We were close and convenient to everything while having wonderful accommodations not in the middle of the touristy hub. The condo was spacious and clean. The place was quiet and peaceful. The amenities like cooler, beach chairs, and more really helped. Her tips on what to see and where to go were very helpful. The condo was perfect and we appreciate Denise’s hospitality and will definitely recommend it to others going to Hawaii.

  First the good news ... Location and property are as advertised. Oceanfront. Great views. Really nice condo for the price. Excellent value. Free boogie boards, towels and gear to use. Owner worked with us and was very accommodating when we had a need extend our stay, and she did so at a most fair price. Kudos for that! The only knock I would give is that for two straight nights two of the stand alone air conditioning units stopped working. We found out the second night that the culprit was that both units were on the SAME breaker. These are big AC units, they pull a lot of juice and they need to be on their own breaker. In fact, the TV, Cable box, router, two ceiling fans, several outlets AND the two large AC units were all on the same breaker! That is why they stopped working. Everything on that breaker switch stopped working (obviously). It was so bad that re-flipping the breaker switch would not get them to turn back on. It blew the fuse out entirely. I assume this was the installer's fault and not the owners. However, the real test will be for the owner to fix this so that it doesn't happen again. The only other ding is that I contacted the on-site "repair man" two nights in a row about this AC problem, and both times it took him until the next day to get back with me. Sweating through the night didn't help our stay! So, we suffered in sweat with non-working AC units. SO, before you rent this property, if AC is important to you, please confirm that each of the AC units is on its own breaker. If not, you will have the same problems we had. Now, I have lived 2/3rd's of my life without AC. I am not just complaining because I don't know how to live without AC. I have lived without AC the vast majority of my life. However, because this is a first floor unit, we did not feel comfortable leaving the sliding doors open and only having screen doors between us and the world. When they worked, the AC's came in handy in that regard. As long as the AC units get reconfigured so that they don't blow the fuse, then I would highly recommend this location. Given our AC problems ... You should be able to see that my 4 STAR review is actually really high. If not for the AC issue, I would have given it an unconditional 5 starts.

  Nice oceanfront condo, nice pool with shallow end for toddlers, nice tennis courts,nice snorkeling within walking distance, shopping walking distance. What more could you ask for.

  "Calypso" is a beautiful Oceanfront condo on the Kona Coast. We feel we got a great deal. The lanai is right on the ocean facing the sunset. Most mornings and evenings were spent out there relaxing on the lounges, with a cool drink (evenings) or having our coffee (mornings). It is tiled inside and out. The master bedroom opens right out onto the lanai. The beds appear to be fairly new and are quite comfy. We walked to the market to stock up the kitchen, and used the boogie boards and beach equipment. This place had everything we needed, right down to the drawer with the scotch tape and scissors. Inside there are alot of Hawaii Guide books, including several on hiking the Big Island. The owner gave us a little walking map and we were able to find some petroglyphs (Hawaiian carvings) out in the water close by. The only problem we had was that we ran out of toilet paper. We would highly recommend "Calypso" to anyone who is considering going to Kona.
