THREE INDEPENDENT APARTMENTS TO RENT SEPARATELY, OR IDEAL TOGETHER FOR LARGE GROUPS, LOCATED IN CHATEAU DE GUERNON-RANVILLE.
An attractive 18th Century manor house, made from the characteristic pale Norman stone imported for the building of many English cathedrals, and not far from Cabourg and Deauville, it was once the home of a minister of Charles X, and a favourite haunt of many famous artists such as Toulouse-Lautrec. Close to Pegasus Bridge, which was captured by allied gliders in the night of the 6th of June 1944, the manor became a temporary hospital during the D-Day landings.
Ranville is a quiet village ideally located for visiting the region. The Norman ferry port of Ouistreham Caen is only about five miles away making for instant access from the UK. The coastal resorts of Cabourg, Deauville and Honfleur are within easy reach, as are the Normandy D-Day landing beaches and Bayeux, with its famous cathedral and tapestries. Inland you can explore the rolling Calvados countryside, or go on the cider trail, sampling local farm produce.
The house is set in four acres of landscaped grounds, with clay tennis court, large heated swimming pool with removable all weather cover, pool house with patio, fitness room with spa, sauna and multi-gym equipment, games room with table tennis and electronic dartboard in one of the outhouses, archery and petanque. Bicycles are available for use by guests (one equipped with infant seat).
Two of the apartments are situated in the recently renovated wing of the manor, the third is part of the main house. Each benefits from a secluded setting to ensure privacy. The resident owners live in the main house.
Each apartment has been completely restored to the highest standard, and retains much of the original character, including beamed ceilings, quarry tiled floors, and natural stone walls. Bed linen and towels are all supplied. Cots, high chairs and stair gates for children are available if required. Detailed local information is supplied (shops, restaurants, children's activities, etc.) to help you get the most from your stay.
All of the apartments have inclusive broadband access with ethernet connection. A PC with internet access is also available in the main house for those who don't bring a laptop.
"GRAND LARGE", (95m2): The entrance leads to the fully equipped kitchen (cooking hob, dishwasher, fridge, microwave), lavatory housing the washer/dryer, and the ground floor bedroom with integrated bathroom featuring a large corner bath. The large bed is motorised with remote control, and if necessary can be divided into two singles. The kitchen is connected to the living/dining room featuring luxury amenities, with satellite television, DVD and hi-fi, a working original fireplace, and a large sofa-bed. A spiral staircase leads to the first floor double bedroom (again with motorised dividable bed) and large ensuite bathroom with bath and view of the grounds. The apartment enjoys a huge independent patio area complete with garden furniture, marquee and barbecue. The layout of this apartment makes it the most suitable for disabled guests and small children.
"LE SUD" (110m2): The entrance has a lavatory, and leads directly to the living/dining room, featuring luxury amenities, with satellite television, DVD and hi-fi. The fully equipped kitchen (American style fridge, microwave, cooking hob, dishwasher, washer/dryer) opens on to the living room. A glass paneled door leads outside to the private patio, with garden furniture and barbecue. The first floor comprises a long corridor leading to two large double bedrooms, again both with motorised dividable double beds, and one housing an additional single bed, and bathroom with bath, large shower, twin wash basins and toilet.
"LA CONFIDENTE" (50m2): Part of the main house but with a few steps leading to its own separate entrance, consists of a fully equipped kitchen (see above). ), dining area, bathroom with shower, double bedroom and living room with a convertible double sofa-bed, TV, DVD and hi-fi. A first floor bedroom with ensuite bathroom and separate toilets, which is part of the owners' accomodation, can be made available if necessary. There is no washer/dryer, but the owners are happy to allow use of their own facilities. Table, chairs and barbecue are ready for use outside in a private enclosed area.

My husband,daughter,son-in-law and I enjoyed 6 nights at the Chateau last June. We stayed in Le Sud which was just lovely...immaculate,private and comfortable. Our hosts ,Anne and Roland, were most helpful and gracious..sharing the history of the chateau with us and generally making us feel so welcome. The grounds and facilities are wonderful .We swam in the pool,played table tennis,strolled around the beautifully maintained estate and the lovely village of Ranville.My husband and son-in-law toured many of the WWII sites and my daughter and I enjoyed the seaside villages,markets and countryside of Normandy. The location is excellent...short drives to Bayeux and Honfleur as well as good restaurants.and wonderful markets. We would recommend this spot without hesitation.It is top notch!
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

We found the ad and was excited to invite our friends to join us to stay at the Chateau. They too were very excited and we ended up renting all three apartments. We spent our days out touring sites all over the area and then nights we barbecued or shared meals on the beautiful patio. While we cooked and sipped some local beverages, the kids loved the pool, spa, sauna, archery and game room. We couldn't have asked for a better location and venue to relax after a hard day sight seeing. The Chateau is only a five-minute drive to Pegasus Bridge which we took loads of pictures and enjoyed the museum. So much history in the area, and with the Chateau, we still have so much to see. We appreciated the hospitality of our hosts and felt very welcome. We would definitely love to go back.

We had a most wonderful stay at Chateau de Guernon late May to early June '09. We rented 2 of the apartments and enjoyed all the great amenities that the property has to offer. The updated bathrooms were spacious and lovely as well as the bedrooms and living areas. The delightful owners welcomed us with open arms upon our arrival and we shared wine, savories,and many laughs together. Our comfort was a priority for them. The Pool was warm and the water welcoming. We loved the sauna, the spa, and the exercise room and equipment. We loved being on the property and BBQ'd every night of our stay. The location of the property is ideal for exploring the Normandy region. Whether it be Caen, Cabourg, Mont St. Michelle, St. Malo, the American Cemetery or all the beaches associated with D-Day... we were able to do day trips to all places. The town of Ranville and the surrounds are of very historic signficance in reference to WWII. We considered it an honor to stay at Chateau de Guernon. And most especially to have become acquainted with the owners and their delightful and very fun friends, Albert and Annie. We hope to make a return visit to this area of France and will definitely arrange another stay at Chateau de Guernon. We look forward to meeting up once again with the owners and being guests at the Chateau.

We had a wonderful time staying at the Chateau de Guernon-Ranville. The apartments are spacious and clean, with beautifully updated bathrooms and kitchens. The small village of Ranville is perfectly situated to take in all the sights in Normandy. We rode bikes to the beach and loved the fitness center, sauna and whirlpool. The grounds are lovely - the perfect place to relax after a day of sightseeing. And the owners made us feel very welcome, helping with any requests or questions we had. We highly recommend that you stay there, and we hope to visit again sometime soon!

I had the great pleasure of staying here, the appartments are wonderful, I found the grounds were very well kept, it was a dream to walk through the little copse, and I found the family was like my own, and there are lots historical places to visit, I am Planning another visit soon

We stayed in this beautiful mansion and walled grounds with our family in 2005. It's the perfect venue for a vacation in Normandy, close to the beaches and to the city of Caen, yet romantic, secluded, and rejuvenating for the spirit! Loved all the modern fixtures, and used the pool and tennis courts extensively. We hope to return here for a vacation in the future..
