Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2007

Sea Shell Sanctuary is our home in the USA. We are residents of the UK, coming to the States when possible. We enjoy bird watching, wildlife viewing, bicycling and found the perfect home to do all. Across the street from Osprey Cove, we are able to watch the REAL Florida from our balcony, bicycle to town, enjoy the historic downtown, and be home in time for tea.

Why the Owner Chose Cedar Key

Cedar Key is home to Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge; the Refuge consists of 13 islands ranging in size from 1 to 120 acres, totaling 762 acres. We kayak to many and enjoy viewing the wading birds, shorebirds, fishes, manatees, bald eagles, crabs, and even some reptiles.
When not wildlife watching, we enjoy bicycle riding. With the entire island of Cedar Key being .91 sq. mile (2.35 sq. km), we can ride anywhere within 20 minutes.

The Unique Benefits of this House

Cedar Key is 60 miles (96.5 km) WSW of Gainesville Florida, 2 hours north of Tampa, and a 3 hour drive from Orlando. Close enough for a day trip to all the Florida "attractions", yet far enough to experience the true nature of Florida. There are no high rises, no congestion, no traffic jams; there are friendly locals, locally owned and managed shops and art galleries, yet no chain restaurants nor chain stores. We are able to savour life, take a deep breath, remember how life is supposed to be.

Just a quick email to thank you for your help with booking Sea Shell Sanctuary and the ‘guided tour’ on arrival. We have many happy memories of our time at Sea Shell Sanctuary and hope to return in the not too distant future. Best Wishes and Regards Keith and Patricia Norris
