Stunning Bluff & Ridge Views Overlooking Point Reyes Wetlands

Year Purchased: 1992

Why the Owner Chose Point Reyes Station

Point Reyes is located approximately 22 miles north of San Francisco, in West Marin. Close enough to drive out to for the day, yet remote and authentically rural.
When I moved to Point Reyes in 1987 to practice medicine, I loved that it had postal boxes where neighbors gathered. I still love how all you need can be found within 4 blocks.

The Unique Benefits at this House

Located on the Point Reyes Mesa across from Inverness Park. Stroll within a private neighborhood, passing a small pond, Cypress groves, and daffodils. We are located one scenic mile north beyond the town of Point Reyes. A favorite day starts with a morning cup of rich coffee and sticky morning buns from the Bovine Bakery, browsing at the Point Reyes Books independent bookstore, and catching the local farmers market in the Summer and Fall at Toby's Feedbarn. Purchase all else at the local Palace market and the Cow Girl Creamery deli replete with local cheese, oven-baked bread, and pick up some local grass fed organic meats at Sun Farms. Or prepare your lunch in our well stocked kitchen before heading out to the Point Reyes National Seashore Headquarters for a full day's hike. The Point Reyes National Seashore contains unique elements of biological and historical interest in a spectacularly scenic panorama of thunderous ocean breakers, open grasslands, bushy hillsides and forested ridges. Drive out to the Lighthouse stopping along the landscape characterized by spectacular shorelines, dairy farms and over 65,000 acres of wilderness protected by the Point Reyes National Seashore. Head home stopping for fresh mussels and oysters from local shellfish Hog Island farms to grill on the barbeque, or select from fine or casual dining options.

Owner's Map of Point Reyes Station

Patty bought the property in Point Reyes in 1989. She felt like the luckiest person in the world. As the town's Family Doc in Point Reyes, while working two jobs she spent late nights imagining her "dream house"; she had never designed anything. After two years reading about design, principles of kitchen flow, Japanese gardening, and energy efficiency, she presented her plans to a local designer-builder. The home was completed in 1992. The Southwest orientation maximizes views and solar passive energy. The street side remains private with few windows. Two large bedroom suites placed at opposite wings of the home optimizes the view and privacy for all occupants. The central common area is unifying. The open kitchen can accommodate many working simultaneously. The loft is a great place to get away for a nap. As Patty's nephew uses a wheelchair, she designed the doorways and halls wide and the second bathroom is handicap friendly. The master bath indoor-outdoor design pulls you into the garden. Its wrap-around deck overlooks the wetlands facing westward towards the sunset and Inverness ridge. Most visitors spend their time there relaxing, barbecuing as the sun sets, and soaking in the spa under the expanse of the Milky Way.

Just Perfect!

We stayed in this beautiful home for 2 weeks (9/12/09-9/26/09) and just had a great time. The pictures of the home don't really do it justice: it is really much bigger than the pictures make it look. The home is very close to the wetlands, and the deck in back is just huge. We have 2 very young children (5 months and 4 years) and the house is very kid-friendly. The location can't be beat -- you're within an hour of San Francisco, Samuel P. Taylor State Park, Sonoma and the Point Reyes National Seashore. Lots of great hikes and walks in the area, organic farms, oyster farms and more -- tons to do and see. The home is about a mile from town, with lots of lightly-traveled streets leading there -- very walker and runner friendly. We walked to town nearly every day. There is a nice grocery in town as well as several restaurants (Station House Cafe is our favorite), and a playground for the kids. There's wifi available, a great hot tub and a large barbeque grill on the deck. Tons of privacy -- most windows face the rear of the house overlooking the wetlands. While you are in a residential area, you barely know you have neighbors! Plenty of room to move around for all -- kiddos included. We had a fun vacation and enjoyed ourselves very much. Patty is a gracious host, and we hope to return next year!

Owner response:The large deck was built to wrap around the entire backside of the house, which now faces the new Giacomini Wetlands. The hogwire fencing on the deck prevents small children's hands and parts from slipping, while allowing maximal view sights. You can spend hours watching the tide shift, birds drift on swells of draft, and relax knowing your kids are safe. A great house for families of ALL ages. Location! Location! Location! You won't find a better home for the value with this location.

Lovely peaceful home with beautiful views

We spent a long weekend here in March to celebrate our anniversary. We loved the peaceful setting, with views of the Giacommi wetlands full of birdlife. The hot tub on the deck is very private and a heavenly place to enjoy the views and relax. The house is just as described, very homey, cozy and well designed. Perfect for two couples as well, and the loft makes it nice for families with kids.

great time with the kids

We recently spent 5 days in Point Reyes with our 2 and 5 year old and stayed in this property. We had a great time. The house was beautiful, clean and very well appointed. We saw a bald eagle the first day and it only got better from there. The deck and the views were fantastic, and stargazing from the hot tub was amazing. It is in a great location, within reasonable walking distance from Point Reyes Station, which had great restaurants. We enjoyed ourselves tremendously and our kids cried when we had to leave. Highly recommended!

My four girlfriends and I had a fabulous weekend at this well-appointed home with a spectacular view and location. It was the perfect site for our annual getaway and we hope to return again next year. The home is a great design, comfortable, clean with all the ameneties. We enjoyed cooking there, eating out on the deck overlooking the wetlands, morning and evening dips in the hot tub, roaming and shopping in Pt Reyes station, excursions to the national seashore, Marshall and San Anselmo.

beautiful views and a very nice house

Guest: John C3 (Berkeley)
Date of Stay: 03/13/10 Review Submitted: 05/17/10

we stayed here in late winter/early spring and really enjoyed all of the birds at Giacomini wetlands -- the views from the porch are incredible. It's a very nice house with a good kitchen (lots of labels so that you can find items). You do have to bring your own linens -- seems a little odd but the price is reasonable. The bedrooms are nice -- my only complaint is that the beds are very soft -- so soft I ended up sleeping on the floor to save my back. Other than that it's very nice.

Owner response:We prefer to keep the rental rate modest and more affordable for families by enabling guests to save on the additional labor, utility, and supply cost of providing linens. While it is a challenge to find the right consistency to please everyone all the time, we have replaced the box spring in the master bedroom to provide a supportive sleeping experience. We believe we have a slice of heaven now!

This beautiful home was everything we had hoped for!!! We live less than an hour away, but felt like we were in another world, a total escape to nature, peace and tranquility. Pt Reyes has always been my favorite place, but now even more so. The house was perfectly appointed, with all the amenities one could possibly need. i spent most of my time in the window seat reading with perfect lighting and amazing views of the wetlands and hills. we are planning a return visit yearly, twice a year if possible.

Owner response:Wow, you really icked up on the best features of the house. It was specifically designed to capture southern and western views from every room, each different, while preserving privacy from the north-east roadside of the house. By placing the bedrooms at opposite wings of the home, and angling there orientation, I was able to orient away from other residential properties. I still consider it my home, and furnish it with the comfort and convenience I want in my home.

Mutli-Generational Retreat

Guest: Family for the weekend (Oakland, CA)
Date of Stay: 10/16/09 Review Submitted: 10/28/09

We had a wonderful time together with three generations celebrating my parents’ 50th anniversary last weekend. Everyone agreed that your house is beautiful and very conducive to relaxing! We ate wonderful food, cooked in the kitchen by many cooks on the ample counter space. We played lots of games on both the dining room table and on the coffee table. We napped, read in tucked away corners, watched the birds, sat in the hot tub, strolled the neighborhood, watched a movie and TV and just enjoyed each other’s company. We went up the road ~ 7 miles to the Marshall Store on Sunday for BBQ oysters. (Delicious & in a beautiful setting.) Thanks so much for giving us a place away from it all where we could just be together.

We were swept away by the calm beauty of the setting of the house. One could spend hours sitting on the deck alternating between staring at the birds, reading a novel and soaking in the hot tub (and we did). We didn't use any of the find electronic entertainment options or board games that were available. We just enjoyed the nature. The way the bedrooms are set up on opposite sides of the living room creates a lot of privacy. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer.
