The home is at the end of a road winding through 5 acres of landscaping and faces east on Blind Pass which teams with wildlife: ospreys, eagle, egrets, ibis, pelicans and more; fish off the dock include sea trout, sheepshead (if you can filet this fish, it is great eating), and daily dolphin sitings. Sit on the large dock to fish or enjoy the wildlife and the passing boat traffic. Large, fenced, heated pool with copious sitting room. Outdoor table tennis, barbecue and a nearby bar fridge in the room with a billiard table. First level has a very large deck, 2 screened lanais, a large open space for sitting, dining, tv watching. Kitchen has all the modern amenities (needs some additional wares such as bowls for soup or cereal). One bedroom on this level with en suite (all bedrooms have their own bath and shower) plus a bathroom for guests. Third floor has a master suite and large closet with a whirlpool bath. Back balcony and large outside sitting area overlooking the water. Smaller bedroom on the opposite side in front with a deck and a large king bedroom is the fourth bedroom. All bedrooms have televisions and ample storage and three have a single bed as well as the main bed. The top floor has a sitting area with a large sectional sofa and a balcony. The house has ample linens and plush towels for use at the pool or on the Gulf front beach (which is accessed by a short dedicated walkway across Captiva Drive). A large garage contains many bikes, a wagon, pool and beach toys, and folding chairs for the beach. Easily accessed wifi and cable television. Close to restaurants: Mad Hatter, Sunset Grille, Lazy Flamingo Key LimeBistro, Crowsnest, Old Captiva House, Mucky Duck and small stores (one a short walk across the bridge at Blind Pass, others at the north end of the Island). We used the marinas at Jensens and at Tween Waters for boat and fishing charters over the 6 week stay. Make the trip to Cabbage Key and Cayo Costa. Tranquil sanctuary away from the fray where adult couples, their children and good friends can congregate for a great and relaxing time in a special part of the world. Drawbacks include the absence of an elevator or any access for the disabled traveller and a sometimes frustrating trips off the islands to the mainland (allow ample time to get to the international airport when leaving) or returning (use West Gulf to Rabbit Road rather than the challenging Periwinkle Way). We had great assistance from the staff who take care of the house.

This home was perfect for several families with multiple children from age 9 to 16. The view of the bay is amazing. We enjoyed the bay and dock area as much as the beach. The kayaks were an added treat enjoyed by all. The kitchen is well stocked with accessories for cooking. The beach is truly a short walk that is very easy to do even for the children. The house had lots of bikes and beach chairs for our use. It was not your typical beach rental. The owner provided restaurant suggestions for us ahead of time as well as some other suggested activities. The weather was in the mid 80s for most of our week. Perfect for our spring break getaway.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children.

Owner response: Thank you Margaret for your thoughtful comments. We are so happy you whole family enjoyed Providence. I'm glad you used the kayaks, it really is a blast to go out exploring. Thanks also for your comment on the distance to the beach. It is something I would want to know if I hadn't been there before. I hope you will come back again. Take care. Michael

A fabulous week! From the three-year-old to the ninety-year-old we are all saying, "Best holiday ever!" Cooking, kayaking, birding, swimming, biking, shelling, lounging, reading, walking..plenty of activities for all fourteen of us. We could not have asked for better accommodations or a more peaceful well-maintained environment. Furthermore, we were thrilled to find a small grocery store within walking distance. The listing was accurate, the home was even grander than the photos, and we would certainly recommend the property to friends.

Owner response: Hi Marjorie, Thank you for taking the time to add a review of Providence. We are so happy things went so well for you and your whole family. We have tried to make Providence a warm, peaceful, fun home for vacations and celebrations! We try very hard to keep it clean and well maintained and we appreciate you also noting that in your review. Captiva Island is such a unique place and our beach is so private and fun, we just try to add a bit to the natural offerings. I'm glad you were able to take advantage of the kayaks and bikes and the heated pool in December! Thanks again for staying at Providence and all the best to you and your family in 2013!

The house and setting are fantastic! - peaceful, beautiful, amazing views, great bird watching, and even dolphins! This is a nature lover's delight! The house is secluded with beautiful landscaping. The huge glass windows give you breath-taking views of the water. The house is even better than the photos. We loved the screened porch! We also loved the loft area, with its incredible views! We loved the dock! We loved everything! There are wonderful views from every place in the house. The house has everything that you could possibly want. All of the amenities are luxurious - the beds and furniture are first rate, and very comfortable. The beautiful and quiet beach is just across the street. We enjoyed the pool, and also the kayaks, ping pong and the pool table. We took a boat ride to Cayo Costa (unspoiled island with fantastic shelling). We also took a dolphin watch cruise. We visited the Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge. We saw manatees near the house. We enjoyed the area restaurants - we celebrated a birthday at The Mad Hatter. The property is well-maintained and spotless. The owner, Michael, is extremely helpful and very gracious. This was our third visit to Captiva, but our first time staying at Providence. Providence is by far our favorite place to stay. We highly recommend this property, and we plan to return. We loved it here!

Our family stayed the first 2 weeks in May. The house was even more amazing than we expected. The set up gave everyone space including my mother who had her own suite The views of Roosevelt Channel and the practically deserted beach were totally renewing for the soul. Michael the owner was very helpful and gracious. We enjoyed the beach furniture and added 3 beach umbrellas for future guests. I would definitely go back to this lovely home and recommend it for families looking for a luxurious getaway.

The house is beautifully appointed and very spacious. We had 16 in our party and never felt crowded. The living room was large enough for all of us to gather. The kitchen was well-stocked and we prepared several great meals there, including one with the fish we had caught that day in the Gulf! The pool, dock, kayaks, bikes and beach provided lots of activities close by. Even our four teenage boys found plenty to do. The setting is natural and abounding with osprey, bald eagles, dolphin, manatee and more. We all enjoyed watching nature unfold before us, right off the back deck. This is a very special property located in a wonderful place. We highly recommend it and we can't wait to go back!

Our stay at Providence was simply marvelous. This spacious, beautifully appointed, secluded house offered comfort, ease of use and total privacy! Breath taking views of the bay as the wildlife fascinated us daily and there is easy access to the isolated Gulf Beaches as the sunsets dazzeled us every evening. When we were not sitting poolside, we took advantage of the many activites available, bike riding, kayaking the inlets, billards, ping pong and many more. The kitchen is equiped for a gourmet chef but if you desire, great dining is available locally. Special thanks to Michael, the owner, for his attentive nature to our comfort and details. Captiva is truly a unique place, a hidden tropical gem and Providence is a perfect compliment to this South Pacific like paradise! We Highly Recommend It.

We all had a great time fishing on the dock - just catfish back there, but none of my kids eat fish, but they do like fishing. So catching catfish and throwing them back was just fine with everyone. We went on some long walks and bike rides which was also fun. Very relaxing, beautiful beaches and the pool provided some nice relief to the hot weather. After fiishing and swimming, enjoyed a beer on the deck overlooking the bay. It was beautiful. All in all, it was a nice relaxing trip. We had a great time. The owner called shortly after our arrival to make sure everything was going fine and to see if we had any questions. He also sent some great infromation ahead of time about possible places to eat. We liked Cheeburger, Cheeburger and Key Lime Bistro the best.

We were a large group of 11 and the house was perfect for us--very quiet so that not much was heard between rooms (even crying babies). We also managed to seat 11 at the dining table by bringing some of the outdoor tables inside. A few of the kids used the loft area with inflatable beds and were quite happy there. We debated renting in the village but were happy with this choice. We loved being able to kayak off the docks; we visited the sand bar in low tide and even caught (and released) a sea hare. The pool was warm, even on chilly days. The walk to the beach was easy (just past the house on the opposite side of the street) and there was a beach cart to help haul chairs, etc. The beach was also lovely--very quiet, but not too quiet. We went shelling one day at Bowman's beach and longed to get back to "our beach" quickly. My one complaint was with Royal Shell management--very early checkout (10:00) and check-in (4:00). The owner, Michael, however, was terrific. He called to make sure we had everything, sent info before we arrived, and was very attentive to making sure our stay was perfect.

Thank you very much for allowing us to stay at your beautiful home, it was just perfect for our needs. We loved all of the open space, views, and all the many amenities- especially the pool! We are always looking for a perfect spot that fits the needs of all the age groups- grandparents to 7 yr old twins- and your house was truly one of the first spots that has worked for us all. We especially loved fishing off the pier, a perfect way to relax and enjoy the afternoon.

We stayed at Providence in June with another family and loved it. It was very spacious and private with plenty to do for the kids. They loved the ping pong, basketball game and swimming pool! The kitchen was well stocked which made cooking easy. We had several great dinners "at home" enjoying the views! The view of the Bay was breathtaking, loved all the windows across the back of the house. We even saw rosiette spoonbills everyday!. Would definitely recommend this house to friends.

We stayed at Providence from March 14-21, 2009 and had a fabulous time. The home is lovely with lots of space for our two families to spread out. It has every amenity and the kids loved the kayaks, ping-pong, pool and proximity to the beach. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Providence to anyone.

Providence was an amazing house with unbelievable views from every room, tons of space and plenty of activities to keep us entertained. Each morning and evening we felt we were watching a National Geographic movie looking off the back porch into the bay as osprey, ibis and egrets feasted in the receding tides and 18" fish were bounding out of the water 10 feet at a time. The beach was beautiful and isolated and just across the street. The house was perfect for children due to the openness of the kitchen and living spaces and the multiple gates that limited our toddlers access to the pool. While great for young children, the kayaks, ping pong, and bikes made it great for any age."

Our extended family (four adults, two small kids) had lots of room in this beautifully appointed home in late Feb/early March. It is a really large modern new house - lots of space, and screened porches. We found the beach access easy (short stroll up the driveway to a deserted, beautiful stretch of beach), the pool fantastic (heated, and great for the kids), and the dock great for fishing and boat access. The canoeing is easy from the dock. We did not have a problem with any bugs (the time of year, I guess), and the sunshine was perfect. The beds are really comfortable, property totally clean and neat, and the house was ready for us when we arrived, totally hassle-free. The kitchen and outside Weber grill worked well - we ate at the house mostly due to the young kids. The Mad Hatter (at Blind Pass - 500 yards away) is a very nice restaurant for adults.

Our family, eight adults and four children, spent a fun-filled week at Providence. The home was lovely and perfect for the size of our group. There was plenty of room in the fully equipped kitchen for several of us to get meals ready. The screened porches were places of retreat for the adults. (Bring OFF, because the No See Ums are ravinous, and are so tiny they got through the screens.) The living room provided plenty of seating for our games of Trivial Pursuit, etc. The kids had more than enough diversions to keep busy all of the time--the pool, the kayaks, the ping-pong table, and basketball game, and, of course the Beach. The sleeping accomodations were extremely comfortable after a day at the beach, giving us a restful night, preparing us for the next day at the beach! We all had a terrific time and hated to leave. We'll be back!
