Location: Pittsfield, Berkshires, Massachusetts, USA (West Cummington - Between Pittsfield and Northampton)
Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 6-8)
On 44 acres of woodland, with a third of a mile of river frontage on the East Branch of the designated Wild and Scenic Westfield River, this log house offers a real opportunity to relax. A cathedral window overlooks the river and a deck to watch the humming birds completes the setting. The master bedroom upstairs has an en-suite bathroom and a minstrel gallery above the open plan living and dining area. Craftsmen used local hard woods for the hand built kitchen and breakfast bar and the floors.
The area has black bear, beavers and occasionally a moose on Main Street. We built the property on a whim, but have discovered that Cummington has everything. Northampton, Stockbridge, the Hancock Shaker Village, Tanglewood, the museums in Williamstown and the Shopping Malls at Lee are readily accessible.
The garage has an efficiency apartment overhead, occupied by an unobtrusive housekeeper who provides bed linen cleaning and a Welcome Pack.

Why the Owner Chose Pittsfield
This house was built by us as a site for wild life viewing and only rented out when we realised that, living in England, we do not get to the States as often as we might.
The Unique Benefits of this House
While it is reasonably close to Tanglewood, our main joy is the sightings of the local fauna - laid back beaver and agitated mother black bear with cubs - and the great village atmosphere of West Cummington. The surrounding woodland is managed for conservation.

We had a wonderful vacation at your home this month! We really enjoyed the neighbourhood and explored the Hidden Hills area. We loved relaxing in the house and on the large rock in the river. The local produce was delicious and we made frequent trips to local blueberry picking. We managed to have one good day at Tanglewood to see Norah Jones perform, but we were rained out of another attempt to see the symphony. We did a number of good hikes in the area and visited Shelburne Falls, Williamstown, Northhampton, Lenox.... You're situated in a wonderful location for exploration. (The “Rs” – Aug 2003)
