This guest cabin on Ash Lake, which we stayed at this past week is both beautifully designed architecturally and professionally appointed, and the location is lovely. There were a few concerns however: l) We chose this place largely because it had a beautiful fireplace shown in the photos, after rejecting several others without a fireplace. However, upon our arrival and after having unpacked we were told by the caretaker that "the owner did not light the pilot" which meant that we were unable to use the fireplace That was a major disappointment, and if we had known about it before we drove 4 hours+ to Ash Lake, we would have made other plans. This became especially disappointing because somehow I developed food poisoning on Thursday night and was ill until we left on Sunday. I would really have appreciated curling up in front of a fire, especially as some nights during the week were in the mid 30's. That would seem to be cold enough to justify the use of a promised fireplace, at a cabin, on vacation !. At the very least, a list of dates on the advertisement -- in advance -- as to when the fireplace is or is not allowed to be used would have been appropriate .But it seemed unfair to wait until a renter has travelled several hours and unpacked before being told that the fireplace is not to be used. 2) The guest cabin has mice. The caretaker did warn us after we got there that she had just taken out 3 mice and she hoped that she had gotten all of them. Well, she didn't, because we saw at least three more --: one boldly crossed the living room in front of us and our 2 Shelties! Up the hearth he went and into the fireplace grill. The other mouse we saw after we heard commotion in the kitchen and went to investigate - a mouse had managed to open up and tip over a firmly sealed plasic bakery tray containing oatmeal cookies onto the counter, and when we came into the room the mouse hid briefly but quickly ignored us and was soon trying to drag this large cookie up into the vent, before we grabbed the tray and the cookies and threw them all away. The third mouse was discovered up in the loft where we slept. 3)the clothes dryer advertised as available was broken and unavailable.. 4) there were lots of house flies in the loft, 5) almost empty dishwashing soap upon arrival and no obvious shower soap. Needs better maintenance & service in areas mentioned.

My wife and I stayed here 6-27-09 through 7-4-09. The cabin was kept in very nice condition with all of the amenities you would need. We also rented the boat and it was nice and stable. The motor always ran well and seemed to be well taken care of. Fishing in Ash Lake is very good. It is full of smallmouth bass, and also has a population of large northern. We met the lady who takes care of the cabin on our first day. She and her husband were very nice and said they were available in case we ran into any problems. We also met the owners of the cabin on the last day. They and their sons treated us like close friends or family. They made us dessert for our dinner and offered to have us come out to the fire for smores later in the evening. The entire experience was excellent.

Hi Randy, Thank you again for letting us rent your beautiful cabin for deer hunting this year. The weather was a little nasty Sat-Sun., and the deer were not moving. Tim's son Jared, shot a doe opening morning, and I shot a doe Sunday morning. Tim saw at least 4 does he could have shot, but he is content with one deer. We saw one nice buck, chasing a doe. Because of the weather, I think the deer were hunkered down, until the weather straightened out. I suspect the hunting will improve throughout this week. We wish we were still there! Have a great winter, and enjoy the holidays! P.S. Please book us for next year...Fri-Mon. nights. Thanks. Dan Burbank

Our family had a fun, relaxing time at this beautiful cabin. It had everything including a snowmobile to borrow from the owner when one of ours broke down. Thanks again Craig for being the perfect host. We'll be back next year!
