-On our very first vacation at Sea Ranch, 1986, we fell in love with its incredible beauty and purchased a lot. then in 1995 we purchased Breakaway and have never looked back.
The Unique Benefits at this House
One of the most uniquely beautiful places in the world. Homes are architecturally designed with care and placed "Lightly on the land" and nature is the primary focus. Unabashed wildlife roams across the commons (deer, fox, wild turkeys, {occasional mountain lion}, large variety of birds, seals, whales, tidepool inhabitants, variety of fish, and abalone. The variety of sites and activities is incredible: redwood forests, river beach, 10 miles of ocean front and dramatic oceanscapes, bouquets of wildflowers, art , music, dining, ocean diving, surfing, fishing, and three recreation centers with heated pools, showers, saunas, and tennis courts.

This truely is a wonderful place to spend a quite and restful time away from the busy city life. Working with Pete was very easy. From start to finish he was most helpful in getting the information to me about the house and location and the rental agreement. The location was perfect and the views from the various rooms of the sea was more than I could hope for. Was nice to be able to hear the crash of the waves with open windows. The house itself was beautiful and comfortable. All that one could need was there. All the electronic devices were in working order and easy to use. This stay was just what I needed. I will probably seek out another stay in the future.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, sightseeing, pet owners, adventure seekers.

The house is very well designed. From any space within it, our eyes were automatically drawn to views of meadows or the ocean, framed beautifully by each window. Hiking paths along the ocean bluffs, through the coastal meadows, or among the redwoods were outstanding. Great restaurants and galleries in the area. Good wifi connection, too!

We had a great week at Breakaway with our adult children. Great access to trails, beaches and Gualala and Mendocino as well. We would definitely consider renting Breakaway again. Internet access was a must, even on vacation, and it worked fine.

location is great and I agree the house is nice to look at but it lacks coziness and functionality. The bathroom is a problem and awkward and just too many levels you can't get comfortable here.

The location is outstanding. Beautiful views, walking trails, horseback riding, golf, biking, and peace and quiet when desired. Sea Ranch is a must vacation spot we shall return to. Nice house to look at, privacy, good hot tub, and enclosure for pet. Interior gets hot in good weather. Upstairs downstairs with one bathroom in the middle is a bit inconvenient, particularly if stairs are a problem. The main bedroom is downstairs and inferior to the loft bedroom, which we moved to after one night in main. Upstairs bed mattress is outstanding. Felt like a good place for younger couple with kids. We were there to celebrate our 51st wedding anniversary and had some some trouble with the layout of the house. Place was clean and well maintained/stocked for rental.
Owner response:The home is 3 floors and five levels which provides great ocean views and separation, but is not ideal for folks with mobility issues. The home is passive solar due to the window layout and can be modulated by opening the many windows and sliding doors. A second bathroom is planned.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, sightseeing, pet owners, age 55+, families with teenagers.
