We were thrilled to find this hide-away located between two great golf courses-- Torrey Pines and La Costa. The backyard is secluded and quiet with a hot tub for relaxing under the stars. There are several patio areas for reading and relaxing. The house has a beautiful kitchen, lots of natural light and a great stereo system. We didn't want to leave. Encinitas is a great little town with fun dining options. You will be charmed by it all

What a gorgeous property, and very well equipped! Our only (minor) disappointment was not being able to get the sound system to work outside, so that we could enjoy it while sipping morning coffee on the sunny deck off the bedroom, lazing around on the palapa, and soaking in the hot tub - tough time, huh? Eric was not around most of our week there, but was very genial and helpful when we did meet up, especially with turning on the AC, which we needed during the unusually hot and humid weather during most of our stay. And Ono is as sweet as can be. Hope to return when the evenings are cool enough to make use of the fireplaces and firepit! What more can I say - Aloha!

As soon as we arrived my son and I both felt like we had found paradise! The cottage is thoughtfully appointed and far exceeded our expectations. It was clean, well-furnished and decorated with a designer's eye. Eric couldn't have been a better host. We immediately felt welcomed. The house is stocked with beach toys--bikes, boogie board, umbrella, chairs. Eric even offered his surfboard and his wet suit to my son. All of which provided the elements for a memorable vacation. We will be back soon and in the years to come. Once you've found paradise you know it and want to make it part of your life history!!

We stayed in the cottage for 10 days and had the most wonderful time! Eric was a most hospitable host and we loved seeing Ono wandering around the yard when he was there. The pictures don't do this beautiful place justice- it is like your own private sanctuary with tikis around the grounds and fountains- it is a very peaceful place to be. It is only a 5 minute walk from town over the train tracks and you can access everything- it is super easy to get around town, especially on foot or bike. Eric had all sorts of beach toys for our 2 year old to play with which was great since we couldn't pack a lot of our stuff. He also pointed us in the right direction re: the beach to access, restaurants and fish markets! We loved Encinitas because it was such a mellow surfing town with a lot to do. We ate all our breakfasts and lunches at the cottage and cooked a few dinners, and his kitchen had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable and it was so light, it was nice being able to be woken up by the early morning sun, so we didn't waste any of our time there. The hot tub or "hot water" as our little boy called it, was so nice to have. A wooden hot tub is so wonderful and you can hop out and lay on the palapa and dry off or take a little siesta. It was perfect. We are definitely going to go back and stay at some point in time because it was just the kind of place that you can visit over and over again. I highly recommend this property and thanks to Eric and Ono for making it extra special!

This property is absolutely beautiful! My husband and I just returned from a month's stay at this beach cottage. I cannot say enough good things about it. The property itself is gorgeous. It's so spacious with three different outdoor areas for relaxing....front yard with fireplace and fountains, backyard with seating area and fire pit, and a palapa with hot tub and TV!!! Many days we never even left the property because it was so peaceful. The cottage itself is stunning. Open, airy and filled with light. Every convenience imaginable was provided...... from a gourmet kitchen to a rainforest shower. And everything was clean and comfortable. The location was also ideal, within easy walking distance to the beach, restaurants, shops and attractions. Eric and Ono were wonderful hosts who provided us with a local's knowledge of the area. If you're questioning whether to rent this property, just do it, you won't be sorry. We've already booked our next stay!!

We had an amazing week at Eric and Ono's cottage. The photos do not do justice to the 20+ (30+?) palm trees on the grounds and the rest of the relaxing oasis we found there. Convenient location, close to the downtown shops, coffee shops, restaurants, and the new Whole Foods Market. After this, there is nowhere else to stay in the San Diego area. While you are there, try Solace (awkward name, great food) and the falafel burger at Roxy.

My husband, mother-in-law and myself stayed here for a week in July/Aug and were very pleased!! The house and grounds were immaculate and the location was amazing - walking distance to downtown Encinitas and beaches. It was so nice to enjoy the beautiful weather in all the outdoor seating areas. The owner was very nice and helpful in showing us the amenities of the house. Thank you, we will be back :)

My adult son and his wife and myself stayed at this cottage. All I can say it is that it is a piece of paradise. The location is perfect to get to everything including walking to downtown Encinitas, which is lovely with great restaurants, walk to beach, walk to lookout and watch the sunset. The owner has furnished it with everything you need. It is beautiful, clean and the most wonderful, fabulous grounds with landscaping to eat, sit outside for meals, relaxing. The bottom line is that it was very, very hard for all of us to leave. You will not be disappointed.

My husband and I were looking for a vacation rental where we could stay comfortably with our 15 month old daughter, This spot was perfect. We were able to set up a pack and play in the bedroom, put her to sleep and still enjoy all of the beautiful outdoor living spaces. The outdoor fireplace and cedar hot tub are a dream! There is actually a television you can see from the hot tub! The outdoor furniture is fantastic and we really enjoyed listening to music outside from the speakers that are placed throughout the palm trees. Our daughter was very comfortable and able to play in the yard while we had our morning coffee or afternoon cocktail. We started each morning with a run along the PCH or a leisurely bike ride around Encinitas with the cruisers provided by the property owner. We loved the close proximity to the beach, the wonderful neighborhood feel of Encinitas, and the endless opportunities to enjoy the southern California sun! Thank you Eric and Ono for the amazing vacation - we will be back soon!

3 of us had been working too hard and needed an escape for a long weekend... We stumbled across the pictures of the cottage on VRBO and instantly new this was the spot! Little did we know quite how stunning and breathtaking of an experience this would be - the pictures only capture so much - you have to really see it for yourselves, you would be hard pressed to find something you didn't like! We pulled after dark and found our way into the house. Everywhere we looked there was something amazing - the lighting was incredible, dimmers on EVERY light switch let you set the perfect ambiance. My favorite had to be the lighting on the trees. When we figured out how to turn those things on we could actually see the impeccable landscaping and the beautiful setup that Eric had put together. You won't find a more welcoming, accommodating landlord. Eric was super private and we wouldn't have known he'd been there had we not gone round to bother him with questions and requests for places to explore and advice on local bars and restaurants - well connected and with an ear to the ground, he definitely knows what's up! There is so much to do in Encinitas and it's definitely one of my favorite parts of San Diego. I love to cook and the kitchen was perfect, enough room for all 3 of us to get involved and put together some awesome food! We had everything we needed and the stove was perfect! Awesome high BTU burners, heavy duty kitchenware - even heat lamps above the range! Couldn't ask for more! The outdoor amenities are spot on - my favorite had to be the outdoor fireplace and tiki torches, day or night the over-sized chairs are super comfortable and it was very easy to lose hours in those things! The sound system is very well put together and thought out. Speakers in every part of the garden and house, with adjustable volume in every section. The sound quality is great and very clear for all types of music. Speakers in the bathroom are a nice touch - great way to wake up in the morning! If you're looking at this website, then you're thinking about somewhere to stay... Look no further as there is nothing else even close to perfect as Eric and Ono's paradise!

My week here was soooooo luxurious. Hot outdoor shower, cool breezes floating thru the house, soft sheets, gourmet kitchen, heavenly outdoor space and japanese hot tuba-- the landlord thought of every single detail as if it were a 5-star hotel. But it's better than a 5-star hotel -- it's your own cottage by the sea. I'll be back...

Your home has completely refreshed us. We had one of the best family getaways ever. In fact we cannot wait to come back. The girls played "hide&seek" practically the whole time, unless of course a butterfly flew past them. You have created an island paradise with no stress attached what so ever. Melissa loved the outdoor palapa area, the girls loved the fire place and tiki torches the best( might have something to do with the smores!). My favorite thing was the outdoor shower. There's nothing better after a long day of body surfing than coming back to the "Island" and jumping into the hot outdoor shower water. Truly inspiring. Corona should film a commercial here!! Thank you for sharing a piece of your paradise with us.

We could not have dreamed up a better vacation cottage! Our family vacation was stress free with all the comforts of home. Of course the hidden magical stones and Ono were the icing on the cake! Who would have guessed a two week vacation would have been too short? So wonderful to have a place where our entire family felt comfortable. Thanks for everything. Love.... PS- Let us know if you need a place to crash in NH "Dear Eric - I loved your landskaping. I know we will come again soon and Please remember to give Ono treats. I drew a picture of you! Sincerely, Sofia." "Dear Ono - I hope Eric gives you lots of dog treats. Remember 10 every day and Pea nuts too. Your friend Sofia"

Where to begin? We loved staying in the beautiful cottage. We needed a complete get away from life and your restful, relaxing piece of paradise filled the bill. Thanks for your great hospitality, your suggestions for places to go, your attempt to take David surfing, your surprise deserts, and of course the pleasure of meeting Ono. You have made us excited about coming back and who knows, maybe a dream of living here will become a reality some day. Godd Bless! PS. If you are ever passing through, the welcome mat is out.

Thank you for having such a great place to escape to and bring in a new year. We loved it. We have been visiting Encinitas for 10 years now and staying here made us feel at home, as if we were locals. Your home is absolutely beautiful, and convenient to all we wanted to do. Thank you for suggesting Julia. It was awesome. Ono, I am not a pet person, but I was not scared of you. You are a very well behaved dog. No wonder everyone has loved you. Thanks again & give us a call if your ever in Houston>

This vacation was amazing and all because we are staying at this gorgeous home. What can we say, there's not a single flaw about the place.... and Marissa said the only bad thing about the place is "NOTHING". Every inch is amazing. So relaxing & laid back too. Ono is so cute & awesome to have around. He doesn't miss a thing.. he is always right there with us. Thank you so much for everything and all the advice on where to go in Encinitas. We really enjoyed our stay and will truly miss it all. Relaxing in the hot tub and spa every night wasn't half bad! Thanks Again!

Eric and Ono - Thanks for letting us come out and stay on your island. Everything about this place helped us get our chill on. We took advantage of every aspect - Checking out the foliage from the palapa, warming up (after surfing) in the jacuzzi, building a fire outside, and of course a few nips of the jug of tequila! We hope to be back (with a real estate agent) very soon. Oh! and thanks for letting me take out the "Padillac".... and showing me how to strap it to my roof California style! Take care!

Just the place we needed to relax, surf, veg out on the day bed, and entertain friends. We lived in San Diego 3 years ago and this was the perfect place to have our friends come visit for a BBQ and to enjoy the beautiful grounds. It was also nice to have an intimate dinner with just the two of us. We really enjoyed having an awesome pet for a week too. Ono was fabulous and Eric isnt so bad himself. We had a great time and hope to come back.
