The construction of the L´Eixample district of Barcelona started at the beginning of the 20th Century, by the time they finished the Clinic Hospital in 1904 the surrounding areas were still farmland. Today the Ninot Market characterises the central part of this neighbourhood.
The left hand side of the Eixample district is the modernistic part of Barcelona. All the streets cross in the rectangular style, which is quite unusual for European town planning. The buildings, nearly all of which have been reformed, are from the 19th Century and you will notice the variety in the decorated façades of the buildings as you walk through this area of Barcelona. You will find something to suit every taste in this area, design and fashion shops, relaxing parks and a range of bars and cafes to have your morning coffee in. There are also a good number of restaurants, bars and discos for those looking for some nightlife Barcelona is so famous for. The majority of these are around the streets, Londres, Paris and Muntaner. It can be difficult to resist the temptation to stop and try out some the local pastries & coffees, drinks & tapas or have dinner in some of the most fashionable restaurants in Barcelona. Towards the bottom of L´Eixample it meets with Plaza Catalunya and the beginning of the Gothic Quarter.
The Eixample is one of the prettiest and safest districts of Barcelona. Places of interest not to miss: Plaza Catalunya, Passeig de Gracia with those beautiful Antonio Gaudi’s buildings such as La Pedrera and La Casa Battló and Plaza España that has a fountain display with lights and music in the evening time.

Phillipe's apartment is located in a very convenient area with a great rooftop terrace and everything you need in a compact space. He was most welcoming and gave us good info. Metro and buses were minutes away and many of the attractions were withing easy walking distance. It is a very pretty, but quiet area and yet just a few minutes from the busy Ramblas, restaurants, dept stores, etc.We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and reccomend this apt highy. And what a beautiful city Barcelona is...so much to offer...so much to see!
Owner response:Hello Chuck, I have just seen your comment in the VRBO review and I would like to thank you for your kind and encourageing response. Again thank you very much and I hope to see you again. Best regards, Philippe

We are very thankful for the opportunity of staying in this apartment during our visit to Barcelona. Philippe was an excellent host and very gracious in providing the information and assistance needed to plan our visit. This is an excellent location near many of the major attractions and the metro and bus stops. We enjoyed walking (strolling and admiring the scenery) to our destinations. The apartment is very clean, well-maintained, and comfortably furnished with all the essentials. We highly recommend this rental. Philippe, thanks for taking care of us during our great visit in Barcelona.
Owner response:Thank you very much Diane for your kind review. I hope you have a nice trip back to the US. Best regards.

All of the other reviewers are right--this is a terrific place to stay! I cannot say enough about the wonderful location. The apartment is close to everything, and yet it's not on a crazy busy street, so you have some sense of getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Do not confuse Rambla Catalunya with La Rambla, which is a circus (in both good and bad ways)! The terrace is wonderful, and it's incredibly private. We slept with the door and windows open every night, which was so nice. The apartment has everything you need for an enjoyable trip, and Phillipe is so incredibly helpful. Communication with Phillipe was easy, and everything was just as he said it would be. I would not hesitate to stay here again--in fact, I will not want to stay anywhere else!

I stayed at the Penthouse at the end of July for 9 nights, and was so impressed with Phillip's thoughtfulness and hospitality. Although it is just a bachelor apartment, he really had thought of all that a traveler would need. The apartment was exactly what I expected, but I have to admit I was amazed at the size of the terrace. As others have written, it was great to have our breakfast on the terrace, and a bottle of wine in the evening before heading out. One of the best things about this apartment is the location - it's very close to all the cafes, shops, and wonderful architecture along the treelined Rambla de Catalunya (not to be confused with the tourist-jammed Las Ramblas). You're one street away from Passeig de Gracia, which also has more shopping than I ever imagined.. Although my favourite neighbourhood to hang out in was El Born and Ribera, it was just a 10-15 minute walk away, and I felt extremely safe when I was traveling alone. Phillip was available by email if I had any questions, and was quick to respond to any concerns. I already miss this apartment in this city, its terrace, the porter Lauren, who was the sweetest gentleman I've ever met, Rambla 31 (the coffeshop/bakery on the corner), and the many attractions this city has to offer. Without a doubt, I WILL be back in Barcelona soon.
Owner response:Hello Bernadette, Thank you so much for your really nice review. I hope you are well. All the best Philippe

My husband and I have traveled all over Europe, and we finally made it to Spain in April 2011. I noticed that hotels in Barcelona were pretty pricey, so I looked into renting a small studio flat on/near the Ramblas. Am I ever glad I did. Philippe got back to me very quickly, and upon arrival, gave us several suggestions of where to go for shopping, sightseeing, etc. We enjoyed bringing a bottle of wine and some cheese back to the apartment and people-watching from the balcony. The apartment is on the Ramblas, so there's never a dull moment. My only regret is that we didn't stay in Barcelona longer; it's a cool city with friendly people and plenty to see and do.

The apartment, although small, is very attractive, clean, and handsomely furnished. The kitchenette is efficiently laid out, but dining in the apartment is rather limited unless the terrace is used. But with such wonderful restaurants nearby, this was not an issue. The terrace is very pleasant in the evening. The location on Rambla Catalunya is wonderful--just two blocks away from the famous Gaudi houses. There is an excellent bakery at the end of the block. The details of checking in and checking out were handled in a flexible way to fit our travel plans. The metro station is two blocks away, and provides direct connections to the train stations. The airport express bus stop is also two blocks away. We hope to return in a future visit to Barcelona.

Four nights in May to the visit the museums of Barcelona and the apartment and the location could not be better. Top floor, quiet, great terrace and wonderful restaurants just steps away. Philippe is extremely gracious and helpful for anything you need and lives right next door if anything should arise. Returning to Barcelona 2012 and plan on staying here again. Have already recommended it to friends.

We rented this rooftop apartment from May 5-10. Although compact and just enough for two, it was convenient to the sights we wanted to see. The kitchen facilities were much appreciated after a day touring. The clothes washer was a plus, and hanging things to dry outside the bathroom window brought back memories. The rooftop was a great place to drink, eat outside and enjoy the sights and sounds of the city. Philippe was very helpful in getting us settled in and orientated. The building's concierge was a great help on providing assistance on operating the elevator and with direction. Overall this was a good choice for a Barcelona rental. Thanks Philippe .
Owner response:Dear John, I am really pleased to read your kind review. I hope everything was right and hope you have returned pleased with your holidays. With kind regards, Philippe
